Definitions

  • the invention relates to a hand-operated device for printing and / or attaching self-adhesive labels which adhere as a tape or individually at equal intervals on a carrier tape which is provided with recesses or indentations which are attached at intervals which correspond to the intervals of the Leading edges of the labels correspond, which is equipped with a transport device which gradually withdraws the carrier tape for the advance of a label, which, in conjunction with a device scanning the carrier tape, which is provided with projections which engage in the recesses or indentations of the carrier tape, the labels in brings an exact printing and / or dispensing position to be taken.
  • the invention relates to a new transport device for feeding labels adhering to a carrier tape.
  • Devices for which the new transport device can advantageously be used are known, for example, from US Pat. Nos. 3,265,553, 3,330,207, 3420172, 3440123, 3,551,251, 3611929, 3619324, 3674609, 3852140 and 3911,817.
  • the labels can also be printed on their way from a supply roll to the delivery point. These devices can be designed as manually operated devices or as automatically operating devices.
  • the labels can adhere to the carrier tape at intervals, but they can also be completely or partially separated from one another by straight separating cuts or by a perforation.
  • Label tapes can also be used, which consist of a carrier tape and a paper tape adhering to it in the form of a strip. After printing on the labels and after detaching from the carrier tape, the individual label must be cut off from the strip.
  • a particular problem with these devices is to control the transport device engaging on the carrier tape in such a way that with each feed a label is brought into a dispensing position that is to be exactly observed and, if necessary, another label is brought into a printing position that is to be exactly observed.
  • label tapes are used which are provided for controlling the transport device with notches, incisions or recesses which are arranged at intervals which correspond exactly to the distance between the leading edges of the labels. These recesses are mechanically scanned using a sensor. These sensors control the withdrawal path of the transport device acting on the carrier belt.
  • a device for dispensing labels in which the labels adhere individually in series on a carrier tape which is provided with recesses or edge indentations which are arranged at intervals which correspond to the intervals of the leading edges of the labels correspond and that is characterized in that a step-by-step, always the same angle drivable transport roller is provided on its circumference in an angular pitch corresponding to the feed angle with projections which engage with play in the recesses or indentations of the edge of the carrier tape and to achieve a sufficiently large frictional force between the carrier belt and the transport roller, which is wrapped around the carrier belt at an angle of greater than 120 °.
  • This known device has the disadvantage that the tensile force exerted by the transport wheel on the label belt depends on the frictional forces between the carrier belt and the transport roller. These frictional forces can be greatly reduced, for example, by the surface of the transport roller becoming dirty.
  • DE-A-838265 discloses a hand-operated device with which self-adhesive labels adhering to a carrier tape are individually dispensed.
  • the label is transported by means of a winding drum, which winds up the carrier tape freed from labels in sections.
  • the take-up drum is driven step by step via a one-way clutch, which couples a drive lever to the take-up drum in the drive direction.
  • Exact compliance with a very specific feed dimension of the labels is not possible with this device, because even if the pivoting angle of the drive lever remains the same, the respective label feed would not be constant, because the feed dimension of the labels increases on the winding drum as the tape roll increases.
  • this transport device is unsuitable.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a transport device for the gradual advancement of a carrier tape, which does not have the disadvantages of the known hand-operated devices and which, using a winding drum known per se, mechanically permits safe, feed-accurate transport of the labels.
  • the device scanning the carrier tape should work reliably and trigger strong forces for precise control of the label transport.
  • the transport device has a winding drum that winds up the carrier tape and is provided with a backstop, which can be driven by a freewheel clutch controlled by the scanning device by such an angle of rotation that that of the Winding drum wound portion of the carrier tape corresponds to the scanned distance A.
  • the hand-operated device has the advantage that an empty carrier tape no longer comes out of the device and thus no annoying tape end has to be constantly torn off when the device is in operation.
  • the device according to the invention has the further advantage that no parts causing the transport of the carrier tape come into contact with a surface of the carrier tape to which adhesive particles still adhere.
  • malfunctions often result from the fact that the transport roller acting on the carrier tape or a transport slide engaging on the carrier tape becomes clogged with adhesive particles after prolonged use, so that precise, accurate registration is no longer guaranteed.
  • the feed of the labels always corresponds to the label spacing even after the device has been used for several years, so that it is possible to print the labels precisely and to maintain a very precise dispensing position of the printed label.
  • the labeling device has a hand lever which can be swiveled against a handle and which is coupled both to the label printing device and to the label transport device.
  • the invention is preferably implemented on a labeling device which corresponds to US-A-3911817 (Becker et al.) And in which the printing unit is fastened to a printing unit lever which is coupled to the hand lever via a compression spring in such a way that first when the pivoting-in of the Hand lever tensioned the compression spring and then released the printing unit lever by a pawl or the like and is pivoted by the tensioned compression spring with the printing unit against the printing table.
  • the controllable one-way clutch expediently has a control cage which can be switched via a clutch so that when the clutch is closed, a coupling is effected between a drive hub and an output hub connected to the winding drum, while when the clutch is open, the control cage provides the clutch between the drive hub and the output hub picks up.
  • a friction clutch is particularly suitable as a clutch.
  • Controllable one-way clutches can be equipped with pinch rollers that can be brought from the control cage into the clutch position or into the free-wheeling position or can be equipped with a wrap spring.
  • control cage can also cooperate with the clutch in a kinematic reversal in such a way that a coupling between the drive hub and the output hub is not produced when the control cage is loaded, but when it is relieved.
  • a device is particularly suitable as a one-way clutch, as is known from US Pat. No. 3,978,880.
  • a coupling between a drive hub and an output hub is accomplished via a wrap spring, the diameter of which can be changed by a control cage connected to the wrap spring. If, for example, the control cage is held in place by means of a friction or slip clutch and the wrap spring is thereby loaded, the wrap spring couples the drive hub to the driven hub. If the control cage is released, the wrap spring is relieved, so that its diameter changes and the coupling between the drive hub is released.
  • a backstop of the output hub is also formed by a wrap spring. This wrap spring opens when the output hub is rotated in the winding direction and closes as soon as this output hub is rotated against the winding direction.
  • the known controllable one-way clutch with backstop is particularly suitable for the hand-operated device according to the invention, because it is light, takes up little space and can be accommodated within the winding drum.
  • the scanning device consists of a pivotable scanning finger that can be moved in the transport direction of the carrier tape, which has at least one projection and is coupled to the controllable one-way clutch, the projection being resiliently held in contact with the carrier tape and into the recesses of the carrier tape can fall in and loosen the clutch caused by the one-way clutch by driving it in the direction of transport of the carrier tape.
  • the coupling of the scanning finger to the control cage of the one-way clutch is such that when the drive hub is driven in Drive direction, the drive hub is coupled to the output hub until the projection of the scanning finger falls into the carrier tape and the scanning finger is displaced from the carrier tape in the transport direction. This movement of the scanning finger in the transport direction of the carrier tape causes the clutch between the drive hub and output hub to open.
  • self-adhesive labels 1 which adhere in series on a carrier tape 2 are printed on the way from the label supply roll 3 to the label dispensing point by a printing unit 5 movable against the printing table 4, and the carrier tape 2 for detaching the labels 1 from a step-by-step rotatable transport device 6 is pulled batchwise around a deflection device 7.
  • the deflection device 7 can be formed by a rounded edge or by a roller with a small diameter.
  • the carrier tape 2 is deflected by approximately 180 °, so that the self-adhesive labels 1 detach from the carrier tape 2 due to their rigidity and reach the dispensing position.
  • a label 1 in the dispensing position, printed and largely detached from the carrier tape 2 is still held lightly on its rear edge, while its front edge lies under a pressure roller 8 or another pressure device with which it rolls onto an object to be labeled can be.
  • the parts of the device required for printing the labels 1 and for the gradual transport of the labels are accommodated in a housing which has a handle 9 against which a hand lever 11 which can be pivoted on the housing 10 about the axis 10 can be pivoted in against the force of a return spring 12 .
  • a hand lever 11 which can be pivoted on the housing 10 about the axis 10 can be pivoted in against the force of a return spring 12 .
  • the printing unit 5 which is fastened to a printing unit lever 13 which can be pivoted about the axis 10 and is coupled to the hand lever 11 via a compression spring 14, is moved against the printing table 4.
  • the transport device 6 for pulling off the carrier tape 2 in batches consists of a winding drum 17 which winds up the empty carrier tape 2. Between the pinion 16 and the winding drum 17, a one-way clutch 18 is arranged, which ensures that in one direction of movement of the rack 15, the pinion 16 freewheels, while in the other direction of movement of the rack 15, the pinion 16 is coupled to the winding drum 17 and around it spins a certain amount.
  • the coupling of the pinion 16 with the take-up drum 17 and thus the label transport can take place when the printing unit lever 13 is pivoted against the printing table 4 by the compression spring 14 tensioned by pivoting the hand lever 11 or - as the exemplary embodiment shows - when the printing unit lever 13 is moved from the Return spring 12 is pivoted into the starting position via the hand lever 11 and the stop surfaces 50, 51.
  • the return spring 12 presses the hand lever 11 back into its starting position.
  • the printing unit lever 13 bearing against the stop surface 51 on the stop surface 50 of the hand lever 11 is pushed back into its starting position.
  • the rack 15 rotates the pinion 16 coupled to the winding drum 17 in a clockwise direction, and the carrier tape 2 guided by the deflection device 7 via the deflection roller 40 and fastened with its end to the winding drum 17 is pulled off by a certain amount corresponding to the label spacing and onto the Winding up drum 17 wound.
  • the coupling phase of the one-way clutch 18 is controlled as a function of the distances A with which the labels 1 adhere to the carrier tape 2.
  • a control pawl 26 and a scanning finger 29 scanning the carrier tape 2 serve to control the coupling phase of the one-way clutch 18.
  • the pinion 16 is designed as a gear segment and is connected to a drive hub 20.
  • the drive hub 20 is mounted on a journal 19, on which the output hub 21 is also mounted, which is held by a screw 53 screwed onto the free end of the journal 19.
  • the drive hub 20 is connected to the wrap spring 22, the unloaded diameter of which is larger than the diameter of the cylindrical part 25 of the output hub 21 cooperating with the wrap spring 22 and the free end of which is held by the control cage 24 surrounding the wrap spring 22.
  • a friction ring 52 is attached to the circumference of the control cage 24.
  • the control pawl 26 acts on the control cage 24 in such a way that when the drive hub 20 and the associated wrap spring 22 are rotated in the drive direction, the wrap spring 22 is loaded and thus becomes smaller in diameter and instantly produces a clutch with the driven hub 21. If the control pawl 26 is lifted from the control cage 24, the wrap spring 22 relaxes such that its diameter becomes larger and the coupling of the drive hub 20 and the output hub 21 is interrupted. The wrap spring 22 only produces a coupling between the drive hub 20 and the output hub 21 when the drive hub 20 is rotated in the drive direction - that is, clockwise in FIG. 1 - and the control cage 24 is loaded by the control pawl 26.
  • the change in the diameter of the wrap spring 22 is so small that a distance between the wrap spring 22 and the control cage 24 surrounding the wrap spring 22 cannot be seen in FIG. 4. This distance is within the stroke width of the drawing.
  • the control pawl 26 is held by the compression spring 28 in contact with the friction ring 52.
  • the drive hub 20 is coupled to the driven hub 21 in the winding direction.
  • a scanning finger 29 is used to interrupt this coupling in good time.
  • the scanning finger 29 has projections 30 which fall into the recesses 54 of the carrier tape 2 during the transport of the labels 1.
  • the scanning finger 29 has an elongated hole 31 through which a bolt 32 engages, which is fastened in a bearing block 33. As shown in FIG. 6, the bolt 32 is held in two side walls 42, 43 of the bearing block 33.
  • the scanning finger 29 is pivotable about the bolt 32 and in its longitudinal direction parallel to a guide slot 44 in which the carrier tape 2 with labels 1 is guided.
  • the guide slot 44 is formed by the front surface of the bearing block 33 and the rear surface of a band guide flap 34.
  • the mutually corresponding surfaces of the bearing block 33 and the band guide flap 34 are shaped such that they form a band inlet 45 narrowing like a funnel above the guide slot 44. This design facilitates the insertion of the carrier tape 2.
  • bearing blocks 33 and the tape guide flap 34 have windows 46 arranged in them through which the projections 30 of the scanning finger 29 can reach and about half a label spacing A parallel to the guide slot 44 can be moved.
  • the scanning finger 29 is under the action of a pressure spring 35 which, on the one hand, presses the scanning finger 29 with the scanning projections 30 against the carrier tape 2 guided in the guide slot 44 and, on the other hand, presses the scanning finger 29 upwards into its starting position.
  • 1 shows the starting position of the scanning finger 29. In this position, the projections 30 rest on the carrier tape 2. Now moves the carrier tape 2 in the guide slot 44 in the transport direction, then the projections 30 fall into the recesses 54 of the carrier tape 2, and the scanning finger 29 is taken against the action of the pressure spring 35 in the transport direction until a stop pin 39 located on the scanning finger 29 against the control pawl 26 presses and pivots it about the axis 27 against the action of the compression spring 28 and thereby lifts it from the control cage 24.
  • a lever arm 41 of the lifter 36 abutting the scanning finger 29 presses against the upper end of the scanning finger 29 and pivots it about the bolt 32 in the counterclockwise direction, so that the projections 30 are pulled out of the guide slot 44 or out of the recesses 54 of the carrier tape 2, so that the pressure spring 35 can push the scanning finger 29 into the starting position shown in FIG. 1.
  • the carrier tape 2 has at its two edges at intervals A the recesses 54, into each of which a projection 30 engages, which are arranged on both sides of the scanning finger 29.
  • the projections 30 engage through windows 46 which are arranged in walls which form the guide slot 44. 2 and 6 show, narrow guide ribs 47 are arranged on the front surface of the bearing block 33, onto which the back of the carrier tape 2 slides.
  • Corresponding ribs are also attached to the guide surface of the band guide flap 34.
  • the band guide flap 34 is shaped in the upper region in such a way that a band inlet 45 narrowing in the shape of a funnel is formed, which allows the carrier band 2 to be inserted easily.
  • this winding drum 17 is provided with laterally open slots 49, into which the beginning of the empty carrier tape 2 can be inserted, so that the empty carrier tape 2 can be easily attached at its end to the winding drum 17 .
  • the beginning of the empty carrier tape 2 is inserted into the slots 49 against the winding direction, so that the beginning area of the first turn already lies on the inserted tape beginning and clamps it between itself and the winding drum 17.
  • the slots 49 are widened like a funnel on the insertion side.
  • the wound carrier tape roll can be pulled off laterally from this winding drum 17.
  • a relatively large window 58 is provided in the non-supporting housing wall 57, through which the winding drum 17 can be removed from the driven hub 21.
  • the control pawl 26 has a nose 59 which cooperates with a stop 60 located on the printing unit lever 13.
  • the stop 60 causes the control pawl 26 to remain in the open position, even when the lifter 36 has pivoted the scanning finger 29 out of its engagement with the carrier tape 2. This prevents the label transport from starting again, for example due to dimensional inaccuracies, after the scanning finger 29 has reached its starting position.
  • the stop 60 can be arranged such that it already lifts the control pawl 26 before the stop surface 38 actuates the lifter 36. It is thereby achieved that the scanning finger 29 is relieved of the pressure of the compression spring 28 when the scanning finger 29 is brought out of engagement with the carrier tape 2.
