Abstract

Method of manufacturing a filled packaging container comprising the steps of forming a bag on a mandrel, connecting a seam provided in a formed bag, forming a hole on an upper side of the bag and inserting a valve into the hole to provide an air pressure release after filling the container with a material. Two opposite edges of the valve are formed with two flexible portions made of foil. A sealing fluid is applied in the channel to provide a fluid film to connect the foil portions.

Description

Stand der TechnikState of the art

The invention relates to a method for sealing a packaging container valve according to the preamble of the main claim. In a method of this type, known for example from FR-A-13 60 753, a valve closure is produced on bags made of plastic film by welding the two layers of film while leaving a channel. To seal this channel, the area of the film surface delimiting the channel is moistened with a liquid before the valve closure is formed by welding the film layers. Since the liquids in question cannot always be applied as uniform strips and, if the application is too thick, they flow away when the foils are pressed together for welding, and since these liquids prevent a welded joint, it is difficult to produce valve channels with specific dimensions that relate to a specific one Have the response pressure set.

From DE-A2643831 leak-proof closing of filling valves on valve bags after filling is also known. Here, water or steam is sprayed or sprayed onto the internal parts of the wide-open filling valve, which become sticky when water is added, and the filling valve is pressed together for gluing.

Verfahren nach der ErfindungMethod according to the invention

The sealing method according to the invention with the characterizing feature of the main claim has the advantage that tight valve channels can be manufactured with the required accuracy. Furthermore, the metering of the liquid sealant is easier since the liquid applied at the end of the channel is distributed throughout the valve channel by capillary action and even forms a small reserve at the other end. A major advantage can also be seen in the fact that the sealant can be introduced into the valve regardless of the time at which it is formed. This is the case, for example, when valve bags are made in stock, which are then closed after filling by a simple, continuous night of closure and whose valve channel is sealed with a liquid sealant immediately before or after filling, so that evaporation of the sealant during Storage of the bags is avoided.

The method according to the invention can also be used to seal, for example, valves known from US Pat. No. 2,946,502, which are manufactured separately from the packaging containers and are only glued to them later. These known valves consist of a perforated base plate and a flexible foil plate covering this, which is glued to the base plate along two opposite edge regions, so that the non-adhesive central region delimits a valve channel starting from the opening in the base plate. With such glued valves, the subsequent sealing is particularly advantageous since the liquid sealant cannot migrate into the adhesive layer while the valves are being stored.

In tests, silicone oil has proven to be a particularly suitable sealant.

The implementation of the method according to the invention is seen particularly in connection with the packaging of roasted coffee. Coffee is filled into bags in the absence of air and sealed airtight. The gases released from the coffee can escape through a valve glued to the bag above an opening.

The valves, which have one or more ventilation channels, are glued in the packaging machine to the bags or to the packaging material from which the bags are formed. Before filling or shortly thereafter, a small amount of silicone oil is applied to the valve in the area of the free end of the valve channel. Use a brush, wick or swab soaked with silicone oil. The liquid can also be sprayed as a drop through a nozzle onto the free end of the valve channel. Due to capillary action, the somewhat excess silicone oil is drawn into the valve channel and fills it. As has been shown, even a small part is deposited on the other end of the valve channel facing the inside of the bag.

The silicone oil in the valve channels fills the tiny cavities caused by the grain of the surface of the walls of the valve channels and thus seals the valve channel against the penetration of air from the atmosphere. If the pressure inside a bag pack increases due to the development of gas, the flexible film is lifted off the base plate of the valve in the area of the valve channel, the silicone oil film being split. After the excess pressure in the inside of the bag has been released by the release of a quantity of gas, the flexible film rests on the base plate, so that the two films adhering to the surfaces reunite and the sealing effect reappears.
