Process for the preparation of ether dicarboxylic acids and their salts The preparation of ether dicarboxylic acid salts from lactones or lactone-like compounds by reaction with alkali or alkaline earth oxide or hydroxide or alkali sulfide with exclusion of water is known from patent 759483 . It has now been found that the reaction is carried out particularly advantageously with alkali metal carbonate or alkaline earth metal carbonate. For example, the sodium salt of dipropyl ether-co, co'-dicarboxylic acid is obtained in one operation from 2 or more molecules of y-butyrolactone and z molecule of sodium carbonate: This procedure means because of his; simpler way of working a significant technical advance. You can use either anhydrous or moist or water-crystalline alkali or alkaline earth carbonate. Since no water of reaction is produced and has to be distilled off, the reaction time is shortened considerably, even if hydrous carbonate is used.
The parts given in the following examples are parts by weight.
Example Z 172 parts of γ-butyrolactone are refluxed with 106 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate while stirring vigorously. After 2 hours the evolution of carbonic acid has ended. 18 parts of unreacted lactone are distilled off, the temperature of the molten salt rising to 260 '. There are 21o parts of sodium oxadibutyrate; these are dissolved in 300 parts of water, treated with 173 parts of 6o.4% sulfuric acid until the reaction is Congo acidic and then extracted with ether. After the ether has been distilled off, 170 parts of dipropolyether- (,), o) '- dicarboxylic acid with an acid number of 575 remain Hour the carbonic acid formed during the reaction has escaped. Plan then refluxed for a further 2 hours, then 116 parts of γ-butyrolactone distilled off and the residue dissolved in 300 parts of water. The solution is made weakly Congo acidic by adding 170 parts of 61.2% sulfuric acid and is extracted several times with ether. 176 parts of dipropyl ether-co, co'-dicarboxylic acid with an acid number of 582 are obtained from the ether solution.
Beispiel 3 In 172 Teile y-Butyrolactoji werden 129,5 Teile 81,5°iotges
wasserfeuchtes Natriumcarbonat eingetragen.
3. Man erhält 175 Teile Dipropylätherdicarbonsäure mit der Säurezahl 58o.Example 3 In 172 parts of y-butyrolactoji are 129.5 parts of 81.5 ° iotges
water-moist sodium carbonate entered. The mixture is kept stirring for so long
Heated under reflux until the evolution of carbon dioxide has ceased. Then
42 parts of hydrous γ-butyrolactone are distilled off and the residue is recovered
212 parts of sodium dipropylätherdicarbonsaures. The salt is in 300 parts of water
dissolved, made Congo acidic with 145 parts, 70% sulfuric acid and then with
Ether exhausted. After the ether has evaporated, 171 parts of dipropyl ether dicarboxylic acid are obtained
with an acid number of 585. Example 4 286 parts of crystal soda are heated with stirring
(Na2CO3 - 1o H $ 0) and 28o parts of y-butyrolactone. The elimination of carbon dioxide
is finished in 1 to 2 hours. The further processing takes place as in the example
3. 175 parts of dipropyl ether dicarboxylic acid with an acid number of 58o are obtained.
