tinbef riedigend.Procedure. to improve synthetic lubricating oils Synthetic
Lubricating oils made from unsaturated hydrocarbons obtained by splitting
catalytic hydrogenation of carbohydrates with the aid of aluminum chloride or others
suitable condensing agents have been prepared show good viscosity
and viscosity pole height. However, their resistance to aging is in many cases
infrequent, satisfying.
Bleicherde be-
It has been found that such lubricating oils can be surprisingly improved in terms of their resistance to aging by a known treatment with elemental sulfur if the sulfur is incorporated in such a way that the finished polymers are first loaded with bleaching earth at about 150 to 300 ' acts, then adjusted to the desired flash point by vacuum distillation and then treated with 0.1 to 1% elemental sulfur at an elevated temperature, optionally in the presence of vulcanization accelerators. A vacuum distillation is closed to the effect of sulfur . in the presence of steam or inert gases. Instead of ordinary fuller's earths, activated fuller earths, for example those pretreated with acid, can also be used. The earths used can be used repeatedly, with part being replaced by fresh fuller's earth in each case. Examples of suitable vulcanization accelerators are Diplienylgtianidin, Diphenylsulfoliarnstoff, formaldehyde ammonia or Hexaethylenetetrainin. They are added in the amount of about 20 to 100% of the amount of sulfur used. The connected high vacuum distillation, which is carried out at temperatures of, for example, removes volatile sulfur compounds and the residues of the vulcanization accelerators.
Treatment of liners 'oils with' sulfur to achieve a
increased resistance to aging is already known. But here you don't have
with the combination according to the invention between sulfur incorporation, bleaching earth treatment
and vacuum, mdestillation worked in the processing of synthetic lubricating oils,
obtained from carbohydrate hydrogenation products have a surprisingly high resistance to aging
guaranteed.

Further details can be found in the following - #. Tisführerun, -sbeispi, el. Embodiment The starting material for the production of lubricating oil was unsaturated hydrocarbons obtained by careful cleavage of a gasoline fraction boiling between 200 and 3003 , which in turn was obtained by means of catalytic caroxide hydrogenation. A lubricating oil was obtained therefrom by condensation with aluminum chloride, which at 50 'had a viscosity of 81E and a viscosity pole height of 1.85 . This oil was treated at .2oo 'with active fuller's earth, which was used in an amount of approximately 5010 . The oil was then adjusted to the flanim point desired in each case by vacuum distillation. The oil was then treated with 0.2% sulfur and 0.2% diphenylsulfurea and heated to 16o 'for 5 hours. Finally, the oil treated in this way was heated for 30 minutes at an absolute pressure of 3 mm of mercury to a temperature of iZo '. The finished oil is odorless, yellow-brown in color, transparent, and does not attack a dipped copper strip at 120 'even after 24 hours. It shows a high resistance to aging and does not split off hydrogen sulphide when heated, nor does it show any effect of sulfur on metals.
Zur Prüfung der Alt-erungsbeständigkeit wurde das 01 6 Stunden
lang bei 140' mit unverdünntem Sauerstoff behandelt. To test the aging resistance, the 01 was treated with undiluted oxygen for 6 hours at 140 '.
. The viscosity (5o'C) only increased around 2010. The product produced therefore has the properties of a high-quality lubricating oil.
