Description
Process for making high vacuum tubes. Addendum to patent 345 = 6I. The present invention relates to. Application of the procedure according to the main patent, in particular according to claim a, for the production of components for high vacuum tubes and the like
It is known that in the production of high vacuum tubes, such as X-ray tubes, hot-cathode tubes, amplifiers and valve tubes, etc., that sufficient degassing of the particular difficulties metals contained therein does. For this purpose one looks for the gases from the metals when pumping out the tubes by heating them as high as possible, either from the outside or by overloading the tubes. It has been found, however, that complete degassing of the metals cannot be achieved even in very long times, in that every further increase in temperature allows new gases to escape from the metals, which can then render the tube unusable. On the other hand, overheating of the parts contained in the tube often causes atomization or the like of the metals, which should also be avoided as far as possible. Sufficient degassing of the metals can, however, be achieved by melting the metals in a vacuum and keeping them melted for a sufficiently long time. It has been found that such metals when processed into sheet metal or wire or even when annealed in any gases, namely hydrogen, do not take up gas quantities again in such a form that they give rise to disturbances in the manufacture of the tubes.
