Abstract

The oxidation of substances by the air is prevented or inhibited by the addition of 0.001 to 1.0 per cent of a phenolic body, added in the form of solid, solution or vapour or produced in statu nascendi. Thus, styrolene, furfurol and acetaldehyde are stabilized by the addition of a one per cent solution of pyrogallol or guaiacol. Specifications 6581/89, [Class 95, Paints &c.], and 8150/07, 9872/13, 18060/13 and 116,326, [all in Class 70, India-rubber &c.], and 141,361 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the addition of any proportions of the phenolic body. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
