in feiner Verteilung ausfällt.
Process for the transfer of technical waste lime into one with ammonium nitrate

To put lime to a useful technical use, since it is still considerable

It has now been recognized that waste lime, for example those of the
waste in the purification of coke gas for ammonia synthesis by treatment
with mainly dilute sulfuric acid until the caustic alkalinity in
such a state is transferred that it is harmless for the production of
Calcium ammonium nitrate can be used. Acids are so far used for cleaning
Carbonates have not been used in technology, as these interact directly with acids
react with release of carbonic acid. It also had to be assumed
that even in the presence of quick lime, soda and sodium hydroxide solution, the acid added
would act equally on all substances present. Surprisingly
will
when adding acids, initially practically only those added to the waste lime
Impurities attacked while it succeeds in getting the calcium; carbonate as such
to obtain. It is supposed to be due to the carbonic acid released from the soda
an equilibrium is established that allows the impurities to saturate,
before the cleaning acid has an effect on the lime. Da procedure offers
also the advantage of a substantial saving in sulfuric acid. It turned out that
the removal (neutralization) of the impurities from waste lime practically already
with a.; e @ lchen acid-. amount is reached that saturates the caustic alkalinity
is required. '' Since waste lime can contain soda in amounts up to 21 /,
this is an essential further advance.
There is already a method of transferring technical calcareous
Waste materials have been proposed, after which the waste materials with such
Amount of acid, especially sulfuric acid, to be treated that the nitrogen losses
causing constituents of the same are just being decomposed, whereupon the reaction mass
in particular is mixed with ammonium nitrate. Are used in this process
only substances whose main components are indifferent to sulfuric acid.
For example, according to the known method, blast furnace slag is removed from the troublesome
Freed impurities. Most of the blast furnace slag that is made up of calcium silicate
uria remains under attack, since calcium silicate is caused by dilute sulfuric acid
does not decompose in the cold. The purification of carbonates, which is known
are all decomposed by dilute sulfuric acid, on the other hand, represents a
new and surprising measure.

The following example explains the process in more detail. Embodiment. Waste lime from the composition 342% calculated on dry matter

is removed from the cell filter and mixed with a multiple, for example ten times, amount of water in a vat. While stirring, dilute sulfuric acid (about 10%) is allowed to flow in until the alkaline reaction has disappeared. This is already the case after sulfuric acid has been added in an amount that corresponds to the saturation of the caustic alkalinity. After separation using a cell filter and covering with water, the lime is dried in a drum. The method of the invention also offers the particular advantage that the product is obtained for the most part in a form that can be mixed directly with ammonium nitrate because of its fine distribution, so that only low costs arise from grinding the coarser pieces that have been sieved off. Calcium ammonium nitrate is then produced in a known manner. In addition, a waste product that was previously almost worthless, troublesome and difficult to dispose of is put to beneficial use in accordance with the method of the invention.
