Description
Process for the production of barium hydroxide from raw sulfur barium. It is known that raw sulfur barium can be obtained by reducing barium sulfate is obtained with coal, hydrate by wetting it with water and thereby can convert into a crystalline mixture of Ba (OH), + Ba (SH).
In contrast to known methods, the method according to the present invention follows Invention the way to separate this mixture in that the Ba (SH) 2 portion of the Mixture is converted into oxidation products, such as barium thiosulphate and barium polysulphide (BaS.), Which result when the hydrated Ba S is treated with air with self-heating form with great ease. The one required for the oxidation is useful Air flow initially through a solution or suspension of a small portion of the Sulphurous bariums passed into water in order to de-carbonate and the formation to avoid barium carbonate in the reaction product. It is recognized as essential been to carry out this oxidation until an average sample of the Constantly kept in mixing reaction mass no more increase in alkalinity can be recognized. Barium thiosulfate, which is then found in the reaction mass is insoluble, and Ba S, which in contrast to Ba (SH) 2 is no longer able to to crystallize with the Ätzbaryt together. By absorbing the reaction mixture with hot water or mother liquors, filtering and cold stirring of the filtrate the etching baryta is crystalline in the form of Ba (OH) ". 8H., 0, which by washing out is obtained free of sulfur compounds.
