Description
- Diese Erfindung betrifft ganz allgemein die Dimerisation von α-Olefinen und insbesondere ein Verfahren für die Dimerisation von α-Olefinen zu Vinylidenolefinen unter Verwendung von Katalysatorzusammensetzungen, die ein Metallocen wie Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumdichlorid, ein anderes Alkylaluminoxan als Methylaluminoxan wie Triisobutylaluminoxan und Trimethylaluminium enthalten.
- Die Olefindimerisation unter Verwendung von Katalysatoren, die Methylaluminoxan (MAO) in Kombination mit einem Übergangsmetall-Metallocen enthalten, ist beispielsweise in US-A-4,658,078 offenbart. Diese Katalysatoren stellen eine hohe Polymerisationsaktivität zur Verfügung, doch die Synthese der MAO-Komponente ist wegen der hohen Reaktivität von Trimethylaluminium mit Wasser und den im Vergleich zu Alkylaluminoxanen wie Triisobutylaluminoxan geringen Ausbeuten schwierig und kostspielig. Obwohl sie sich leichter herstellen lassen, liefern solche höheren Alkylaluminoxane schlechtere Ergebnisse, wenn man sie als Co-Katalysatoren mit den Metallocenen verwendet. Ich habe jetzt herausgefunden, daß Katalysatorsysteme, die anstelle von Methylaluminoxan eine Kombination von höherem Alkylaluminoxan und Trimethylaluminium verwenden, durch die Dimerisation von α-Olefinen eine ausgezeichnete Ausbeute an Vinylidenolefinen von hoher Reinheit liefern. Solche Vinylidenolefine sind nützliche Zwischenverbindungen bei der Herstellung zahlreicher Produkte wie vor allem Detergenzien und Schmiermitteladditive.
- Erfindungsgemäß zur Verfügung gestellt wird ein Verfahren zur Dimerisation eines α-Olefins der allgemeinen Formel RCH=CH&sub2;, in der R Alkyl, Cycloalkyl oder Cycloalkenyl mit einer Kohlenstoffzahl im Bereich von 1 bis 30 ist, zu einem Vinylidenolefin, bei dem das α-Olefin bei einer Temperatur zwischen -60 und 280ºC mit einem Katalysator in Kontakt gebracht wird, der (a) ein Metallocen der allgemeinen Formel (Cyclopentadienyl)nMY4-n, in der n 2 oder 3, M Titan, Zirconium oder Hafnium und jedes Y einzeln aus Wasserstoff, C&sub1;-C&sub5;- Alkyl, C&sub6;-C&sub2;&sub0;-Aryl, C&sub2;-C&sub2;&sub0;-Alkoxy, C&sub2;-C&sub2;&sub0; Ester und Halogen ausgewählt ist, (b) ein anderes Alkylaluminoxan als Methylaluminoxan und (c) Trimethylaluminium umfaßt.
- Im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren werden Olefine der allgemeinen Formel RCH=CH&sub2;, in der R Alkyl, Cycloalkyl oder Cycloalkenyl ist und 1 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome aufweist, mit einem Katalysatorsystem aus einem Metallocen, einem höheren Alkylaluminoxan und Trimethylaluminoxan in Kontakt gebracht, um Vinylidenolefindimere der folgenden Formel herzustellen:
- CH&sub2;=C(R)CH&sub2;CH&sub2;R
- Im allgemeinen darf R nicht zu viel Masse haben, sonst werden die Dimerisationsgeschwindigkeiten beeinträchtigt. Mischungen von α-Olefinen können als Ausgangsmaterialien verwendet werden und ergeben verschiedene Kreuzdimerisationsprodukte. Beispiele für Ausgangsolefine, die man im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwenden kann, sind Propylen, But-1-en, Hex-1-en, Oct-1-en, 1- Eicosen, 4-Vinylcyclohex-1-en u.ä.
- Die Metallocenverbindungen, die als Komponenten der Katalysatorzusammensetzungen geeignet sind, sind in der Technik bekannt und entweder im Handel erhältlich oder leicht herzustellen.
- Die Metallocenkomponente umfaßt Verbindungen der Übergangsmetalle Titan, Zirconium und Hafnium, wobei Zirconiumverbindungen bevorzugt werden. Die Cyclopentadienylkomponente wird entweder von nicht substituiertem Cyclopentadien oder Cyclopentadienen mit einem oder mehreren am Ring hängenden C&sub1;-C&sub1;&sub2;-Kohlenwasserstoffresten abgeleitet, vorausgesetzt, der Ring weist mindestens ein Wasserstoffatom auf. Bevorzugt werden Cyclopentadien selbst oder mit Niedrigalkyl (C&sub1;-C&sub4;) substituierte Cyclopentadiene wie Methylcyclopentadien. Beispielhaft für einige der Mtallocenverbindungen, die verwendet werden können, sind Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumdimethyl, Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumdichlorid, Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiummonomethylmonochlorid, Bis(cyclopentadienyl)titandichlond, Bis(cyclopentadienyl)titandifluorid, Cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumtri(2-ethylhexanoat), Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumwasserchlorwasserstoff, Bis(cyclopentadienyl)hafniumdichlorid u.ä. Bevorzugt werden die Zirconiumverbindungen und vor allem die Halogenide.
- Die Aluminoxankomponente wird von Alkylaluminiumverbindungen abgeleitet, in denen die Alkylgruppen 2 bis 20 und bevorzugt 4 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatome aufweisen. Letzere lösen sich gut in einem Kohlenwasserstofflösungsmittel und lassen sich in nahezu quantitativer Ausbeute dadurch herstellen, daß man Wasser zu Lösungen von im Handel erhältlichen Tiralkylaluminiumverbindungen wie Triisobutylaluminium oder Tri-n-octylaluminium in einem organischen Lösungsmittel zusetzt. Beispielsweise wird Isobutylaluminoxan durch Zusatz von Wasser zu Triisobutylaluminium in einem Molverhältnis von H&sub2;O zu Al von 0,94 zu 1,02 hergestellt.
- Die dritte Komponente der Katalysatorzusammensetzungen ist Trimethylaluminium.
- Die Kombination aus höherem Alkylaluminoxan und Trimethylaluminium, die im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren mit der Metallocenkomponente verwendet wird, stellt ein Verfahren zur Verfügung, das für die Dimerisation von α-Olefinen zu Vinylidenolefinen sogar noch selektiver ist als das kostspieligere Metallocen/Methylaluminoxan- System, weil die Menge an Trimernebenprodukt verringert ist.
- Der Grad der Oligomerisation von α-Olefinen (C&sub3;+) wird sowohl durch die Kohlenstoffzahl in den Beschickungsolefinen als auch die Katalysatorverhältnisse beeinflußt. Im allgemeinen erhält man bei der Dimerherstellung eine gute Umwandlung und Selektivität bei Atomverhältnissen von Aluminium zu Übergangsmetall von 1 zu 1 bis 500 zu 1. Das optimale Verhältnis hängt von der α- Olefinbeschickung ab, wobei geeignete Atomverhältnisse für Propylen z.B. bei 1 zu 1 bis 100 zu 1 (bevorzugt 1 zu 1 bis 50 zu 1) und für Dec-1-en von 1 zu 1 bis 1 zu 320, bevorzugt 1 zu 1 bis 100 zu 1 und am meisten bevorzugt 10 zu 1 bis 75 zu 1 liegen.
- Das relative Molverhältnis von Trimethylaluminium zu Aluminoxan liegt im Bereich von 0,1 zu 10 und bevorzugt 0,5 zu 1,0.
- Die Erfindung wird durch die folgenden Beispiele näher veranschaulicht, jedoch nicht eingeschränkt.
- Alle Verfahrensschritte, bei denen Katalysatorkomponenten verwendet wurden, wurden unter einer inerten Atmosphäre durchgeführt. Heptan und Toluol wurden unter Stickstoff aus Calciumhydrid bzw. Natriumbenzophenonketyl frisch destilliert. Triisobutylaluminium (TIBA) und Trimethylaluminium (TMA) waren im Handel erhältliche Produkte der Ethyl Corporation und wurden wie geliefert verwendet. Cp&sub2;ZrCl&sub2; wurde aus Heptan/Toluol umkristallisiert. Dec-1-en (96,0 % rein) wurde mit aktiviertem Aluminiumoxid vorbehandelt und über Molekularsieben getrocknet.
- Die Reaktion wurde in einem mit einer mechanischen Rührvorrichtung, einem Thermometer und einem gefritteten Wasserzuleitungsrohr ausgerüsteten 1 Liter Dreihalskolben mit rundem Boden von Morton durchgeführt. Diesem Kolben, der eine Lösung von TIBA (56,2 g, 0,293 Mol) in n-Heptan (223 g) enthielt, wurde unter kräftigem Rühren und Einsatz einer Spritzenpumpe über 15 Minuten destilliertes Wasser (4,80 ml, H&sub2;O/Al Molverhältnis 0,94) zugesetzt. Die Temperatur wurde durch die zwischendurch erfolgende Anwendung eines Eisbades bei etwa 40ºC gehalten. Nachdem die Wasserzugabe abgeschlossen war, wurde die Lösung eine weitere Stunde gerührt und langsam an der Luft abkühlen gelassen. Da sich wenig oder kein unlösliches Material gebildet hatte, ging man von einer quantitativen Ausbeute aus und berechnete die Gew.-% Al mit 3,0 %. Dies stimmt mit der Analyse überein. Die Lösung wurde umgefüllt und in einer inerten Atmosphäre gelagert. Die so erhaltene IBAO-Lösung bleibt bis zu 6 Monate nach ihrer Herstellung aktiv.
- Eine für die Dimerisation von Dec-1-en geeignete Katalysatorzusammensetzung wurde in situ in einem Reaktionsgefäß gebildet. In einen 100 ml Schlenk-Kolben gab man nacheinander IBAO in n-Heptan, das wie vorstehend beschrieben hergestellt worden war (3,51 g Lösung, 3,90 mMol Al), TMA (0,27 g, 3,70 mMol), Dec-1-en (18,0 g, 128 mMol) und festes Cp&sub2;ZrCl&sub2; (0,32 g, 0,11 mMol). Die Mischung wurde bei 50ºC unter Rühren erwärmt. Als sich das Cp&sub2;ZrCl&sub2; allmählich auflöste, verwandelte sich die Lösung von farblos zu gelb. Nach Bedarf wurden aliquote Teile für die Gaschromatographieanalyse (GCA) abgezogen. Nach 22 Stunden wurde die Lösung mit gekühlter 10%iger Salzsäurelösung abgeschreckt und die organische Phase vakuumdestilliert. Die GCA ergab, daß die Umwandlung von Dec-1-en in Gew.-% 98,6 %, die Ausbeute an Dimeren 88,6 % und das Trimer nur 1,0 % betrug. ¹H-NMR und die GC-Masse zeigten, daß es sich bei dem destillierten C&sub2;&sub0;-Anteil um eine Mischung aus 98,9 % Vinylidenolefinen und 1,1 % Olefinen mit innenliegenden Doppelbindungen handelte.
- Das Verfahren von Beispiel 1 wurde wiederholt mit dem Unterschied, daß man die in Tabelle 1 zusammen mit den Dimerisationsergebnissen angegebenen Katalysatorverhältnisse und Reaktionsbedingungen verwendete. - Das Verfahren von Beispiel 1 wurde wiederholt mit dem Unterschied, daß man die in Tabelle 2 zusammen mit den Ergebnissen angegebenen Katalysatorverhältnisse und Reaktionsbedingungen verwendete. Außerdem wurde eine 1 : 1 Gewichtsmischung von Toluol und Dec-1-en (je 10 - 12 g) in der Reaktion verwendet und das IBAO unter Verwendung eines H&sub2;O/Al Molverhältnisse von 1,02 hergestellt. - Das Verfahren von Beispiel 4 wurde wiederholt mit dem Unterschied, daß man die in Tabelle 3 (S. 12) zusammen mit den Ergebnissen angegebenen Katalysatorverhältnisse und Reaktionsbedingungen verwendete. Außerdem ist das Ergebnis eines Vergleichs aufgeführt, in dem man Triisobutylaluminium (TIBA) anstelle von TMA verwendete. Außerdem wurde das IBAO unter Verwendung eines Molverhältnisses von H&sub2;O zu Al von 0,94 hergestellt.
- Der Vergleich, bei dem TIBA verwendet wurde, ergab nach 22 Stunden Reaktionszeit eine nur geringe Umwandlung von Dec-1-en (etwa 50 %). Diese Umwandlungsmenge erzielte man in Beispiel 11 mit den gleichen Katalysatorverhältnissen aber unter Verwendung von TMA in nur 2 Stunden. Claims (9)
1. Verfahren zur Dimerisation eines α-Olefins der
allgemeinen Formel RCH=CH&sub2;, in der R Alkyl,
Cycloalkyl oder Cycloalkenyl mit einer Kohlenstoffzahl im
Bereich von 1 bis 30 ist, zu einem Vinylidenolefin,
bei dem das α-Olefin bei einer Temperatur zwischen
-60 und 280ºC mit einem Katalysator in Kontakt
gebracht wird, der (a) ein Metallocen der allgemeinen
Formel (Cyclopentadienyl)nMY4-n, in der n 2 oder 3,
M Titan, Zirconium oder Hafnium und jedes Y einzeln
aus Wasserstoff, C&sub1;-C&sub5;-Alkyl, C&sub6;-C&sub2;&sub0;-Aryl, C&sub2;-C&sub2;&sub0;-
Alkoxy, C&sub2;-C&sub2;&sub0; Ester und Halogen ausgewählt ist,
(b) ein anderes Alkylaluminoxan als Methylaluminoxan
und (c) Trimethylaluminium umfaßt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem das
Atomverhältnis von Aluminium zum Übergangsmetall im Katalysator
1 : 1 bis 500 : 1 beträgt.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, bei dem das
Atomverhältnis von Aluminium zum Übergangsmetall im Katalysator
1 : 1 bis 100 : 1 beträgt.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem n 2, das
Übergangsmetall Zirconium und Y Halogen ist.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, bei dem das Metallocen
Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumdichlorid ist.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem das Aluminoxan
Triisobutylaluminoxan ist.
7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem das Metallocen
Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconiumdichlorid und das
Aluminoxan Triisobutylaluminoxan ist.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, bei dem das α-Olefin Dec-
1-en ist und das Atomverhältnis von Aluminium zu
Zirconium im Katalysator 1 : 1 bis 320 : 1 beträgt.
9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, bei dem das
Atomverhältnis von Aluminium zu Zirconium in der
Zusammensetzung 10 : 1 bis 75 : 1 beträgt.
