Niedrigschmelzende Kupfer-Zink-Legierungen werden bekanntlich meist in Form von Körnern, Granalien usw. als sogenanntes Schlaglot verwendet. Diese Lote sind ihrer Natur nach mit einer Oxydhaut bedeckt, die beim Löten störend wirkt. Durch längeres Lagern wird diese Oxydhaut zum Teil noch verstärkt. Besonders bei Fugenlötungen an dicken Gußeisenstücken und auch an Kupfer- und Messingteilen bewirken diese Oxydhäute einen schlechten Fluß des Lotes, so daß .selbst bei sorgfältiger Arbeit nur schwierig eine völlige Durchdringung tieferer Fugen erreicht wird.Low-melting copper-zinc alloys are known to be mostly in the form of Grains, granules, etc. used as a so-called punch solder. Um diesen Übelstand abzuwenden, benutzt man an Stelle von Schlaglot gekörntes Silberlot, das sich bekanntlich durch eine wesentlich größere Dünnflüssigkeit gegenüber den reinen Messingloten auszeichnet. Man ist bisher der Ansicht gewesen, daß, abgesehen vom Schmelzpunkt, vor allem der Silbergehalt für die Leichtflüssigkeit maßgebend ist. Versuche haben aber zu der Erkenntnis geführt, daß es in bezug auf den Fluß eines Lotes weniger auf die Zusammensetzung, also im vorliegenden Falle auf den Silbergehalt, ankommt als auf die Beschaffenheit der Oberfläche. Beim Ausbau dieser wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis wurde nun gefunden, daß man den Fluß eines gewöhnlichen Messingschlaglotes, wie solche auch im Dihblatt 1711 genormt sind, dadurch erheblich verbessern kann, daß man es mit einer Oberflächenschicht versieht, die praktisch gegen Oxydbildung unempfindlich ist. Hierzu hat sich ein Überzug von Edelmetallen, z. B. Silber oder Gold, bewährt. Der Überzug wird auf einem der üblichen Wege, z. B. durch Tauchen oder galvanisch, aufgebracht.
