Description
Production of oils soluble in mineral hydrocarbons from castor oil Castor oil is well known due to its high viscosity, its resistance to cold and its low surface tension makes it an excellent lubricant. The usage this oil in the unmixed state is only for very special purposes possible. Mixing castor oil with mineral lubricating oils on the other hand, it is almost completely insoluble in these oils. The task of making the castor oil miscible with mineral oils, d. H. Clearly soluble in mineral oils to make has not yet been solved satisfactorily. The well-known procedure by which the castor oil is given this property by virtue of the fact that it is destructive Is subjected to distillation until about 5 ° f, distillate, have passed (cf. Patent ro4499), not satisfactory.
One can also obtain solutions of castor oil in mineral oil by that one castor oil with C51 or fatty acids with the addition of mineral oil with ordinary Pressure heated. The oils obtained in this way contain considerable amounts of free oil or fatty acids and are therefore not suitable for lubrication purposes in this state. You must therefore be subjected to a cumbersome deacidification process with soda. In addition, these mixtures are not durable, as they become in layers when cooled separate.
It has now been found that almost acid-free and mixed With mineral oil, products that can be kept even when cooled down can be obtained, if one Castor oil with oleic or fatty acids under reduced pressure to temperatures of about zoo heated to 25o °.
The products obtained can be used not only for the production of lubricants, but can also be used for other technical purposes.
Säurezahl des Gemisches vor dem Erhitzen = 514 nach dem Erhitzen = 4,3.Example i 75 g of castor oil are mixed with a5 g of oleic acid in vacuo Heated to 23o ° for hours. The obtained condensation product dissolves in each Ratio in mineral oil. Acid number of the mixture before heating = 514 after Heating = 4.3.
Säurezahl vor dem Erhitzen = 48,6, nach dem Erhitzen = 5,4.Example z 80 g of castor oil are four with 20 g of stearic acid in a vacuum Heated to 22o ° for hours. The obtained condensation product dissolves in each Ratio in mineral oil. Acid number before heating = 48.6, after heating = 5.4.
