Description
Die Erfindung betrifft Cyclohexanderivate der Formel I
worin
R¹ unsubstituiertes, einfach durch Cyan oder min destens einfach durch Fluor oder Chlor substi tuiertes Alkyl mit 1-15 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl mit 2-15 C-Atomen, wobei in diesen Resten auch eine CH₂-Gruppe durch -O-, -CO-, -O-CO-, -CO-O- oder -O-CO-O- ersetzt sein kann,
A¹ und A² jeweils unabhängig voneinander trans-1,4-Cyclo hexylen, worin auch eine oder zwei nicht be bachbarte CH₂-Gruppen durch -O- ersetzt sein können, oder unsubstituiertes oder ein- oder zweifach durch Fluor- und/oder Cl-Atome und/ oder CH₃- und/oder CN-Gruppen substituiertes 1,4-Phenylen, worin auch eine oder zwei CH- Gruppen durch N ersetzt sein können,
Z¹ und Z² jeweils unabhängig voneinander -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH₂O-, -OCH₂-, -CH₂CH₂- oder eine Einfach bindung,
n 0, 1 oder 2 und
m 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 oder 6

sowie deren Verwendung als Komponenten flüssigkristal liner Medien.
Der Einfachheit halber bedeuten im folgenden Cyc eine
1,4-Cyclohexylgruppe, Dio eine 1,3-Dioxan-2,5-diyl
gruppe, Phe eine 1,4-Phenylengruppe, Pyd eine Pyridin-
2,5-diylgruppe, Pyr eine Pyrimidin-2,5-diylgruppe,
wobei Phe unsubstiuiert oder durch ein oder mehrere
Halogenatome und/oder CH₃-Gruppen und/oder CN-Gruppen
substiuiert sein kann.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I können als Komponenten
flüssigkristalliner Medien verwendet werden, insbesondere
für Displays, die auf dem Prinzip der verdrillten Zelle,
einschließlich deren hochverdrillten Varianten, wie z. B.
STN oder SBE, dem Guest-Host-Effekt, dem Effekt der De
formation aufgerichteter Phasen oder dem Effekt der
dynamischen Streuung beruhen.
Der Erfindung lag die Aufgabe zugrunde, neue stabile
flüssigkristalline oder mesogene Verbindungen aufzufin
den, die als Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Medien ge
eignet sind und insbesondere eine vergleichsweise niedrige
optische Anisotropie besitzen sowie eine relativ
hohe dielektrische Anisotropie.
Ähnliche Verbindungen, die OCF₃-Flügelgruppen besitzen
sind in der DE 37 32 284 beschrieben. Im Gegensatz zu
den erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen, die einen Cyclohexan
ring an der OCF₃-Gruppe haben, weisen die im Stand der
Technik offenbarten Verbindungen stets eine 1,4-Phenylen
gruppe an der OCF₃-Gruppe auf.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß Verbindungen der Formel I als
Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Phasen vorzüglich geeig
net sind. Insbesondere verfügen sie über eine relativ
hohe dielektrische Anisotropie. Mit ihrer Hilfe lassen
sich stabile flüssigkristalline Medien mit breitem Meso
phasenbereich und vorteilhaften Werten für die optische
und dielektrische Anisotropie erhalten.
Mit der Bereitstellung von Verbindungen der Formel I wird
außerdem ganz allgemein die Palette der flüssigkristal
linen Substanzen, die sich unter verschiedenen anwen
dungstechnischen Gesichtspunkten zur Herstellung flüssig
kristalliner Gemische eignen, erheblich verbreitert.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I besitzen einen breiten
Anwendungsbereich. In Abhängigkeit von der Auswahl der
Substituenten können diese Verbindungen als Basismate
rialien dienen, aus denen flüssigkristalline Medien zum
überwiegenden Teil zusammengesetzt sind; es können aber
auch Verbindungen der Formel I flüssigkristallinen Basis
materialien aus anderen Verbindungsklassen zugesetzt
werden, um beispielsweise die dielektrische und/oder
optische Anisotropie eines solchen Dielektrikums zu
beeinflussen und/oder um dessen Schwellenspannung und/
oder dessen Viskosität zu optimieren.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I sind in reinem Zustand farb
los und bilden flüssigkristalline Mesophasen in einem für
die elektrooptische Verwendung günstig gelegenen Tempe
raturbereich. Chemisch, thermisch und gegen Licht sind
sie stabil.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind somit die Verbindungen der
Formel I sowie die Verwendung dieser Verbindungen als
Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Medien. Gegenstand der
Erfindung sind ferner flüssigkristalline Medien mit
einem Gehalt an mindestens einer Verbindung der Formel I
sowie Flüssigkristallanzeigeelemente, insbesondere elek
trooptische Anzeigeelemente, die derartige Medien ent
halten.

In den Verbindungen der vor- und nachstehenden Formeln
bedeutet R¹ vorzugsweise Alkyl, ferner Alkoxy. A¹ und
A² sind bevorzugt Phe, Cyc, Pyd, Pyr oder Dio. Bevor
zugt enthalten die Verbindungen der Formel I nicht mehr
als einen der Reste Pyd, Pyr oder Dio.
R¹ stellt vorzugsweise auch eine Alkylgruppe dar, in
welcher eine CH₂-Gruppe durch -CO-O- oder -O-CO- ersetzt
ist. Ferner stellt R¹ bevorzugt einen Alkenylrest dar.
Bevorzugt sind auch Verbindungen der Formel I sowie
aller Teilformeln, in denen A¹ und/oder A² durch ein
oder mehrere F-Atome substituiertes 1,4-Phenylen ist
(sind). Insbesondere sind dies 2-Fluor-1,4-phenylen,
3-Fluor-1,4-phenylen sowie 2,3-Difluor-1,4-phenylen.
Z¹ und Z² sind bevorzugt Einfachbindungen oder -CH₂CH₂-.
In zweiter Linie sind -CO-O- oder -O-CO- bevorzugt.
n ist 0, 1 oder 2, vorzugsweise 0 oder 1. m ist 0, 1, 2,
3, 4, 5 oder 6, vorzugsweise 0, 1, 2, 3 oder 4, insbe
sondere bevorzugt 0, 1 oder 2.
Falls R¹ einen Alkylrest oder einen Alkoxyrest bedeutet,
so kann dieser geradkettig oder verzweigt sein. Vorzugs
weise ist er geradkettig, hat 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 oder
9-C-Atome und bedeutet demnach bevorzugt Methyl, Ethyl,
Propyl, Butyl, Pentyl, Hexyl, Heptyl, Octyl, Nonyl,
Ethoxy, Propoxy, Butyloxy, Pentyloxy, Hexyloxy, Heptyloxy,
Octyloxy oder Nonyloxy, ferner auch Methoxy, Decyl, Un

Oxaalkyl bedeutet vorzugsweise geradkettiges 2-Oxapropyl
(= Methoxymethyl), 2-(= Ethoxymethyl) oder 3-Oxabutyl
(= 2-Methoxyethyl), 2-, 3- oder 4-Oxapentyl, 2-, 3-, 4-

Falls R¹ einen Alkenylrest bedeutet, so kann dieser gerad

kettig und hat 2 bis 10 C-Atome. Er bedeutet demnach
bevorzugt Vinyl, Prop-1- oder Prop-2-enyl, But-1-, 2-
oder But-3-enyl, Pent-1-, 2-, 3- oder Pent-4-enyl,

Verbindungen der Formel I mit verzweigter Flügelgruppe
R¹ können gelegentlich wegen einer besseren Löslichkeit
in den üblichen flüssigkristallinen Basismaterialien
von Bedeutung sein, insbesondere aber als chirale
Dotierstoffe, wenn sie optisch aktiv sind.
Verzweigte Gruppen dieser Art enthalten in der Regel
nicht mehr als eine Kettenverzweigung. Bevorzugte ver
zweigte Reste R¹ sind Isopropyl, 2-Butyl (= 1-Methyl
propyl), Isobutyl (= 2-Methylpropyl), 2-Methylbutyl,
Isopentyl (= 3-Methylbutyl), 2-Methylpentyl, 3-Methyl
pentyl, 2-Ethylhexyl, 2-Propylpentyl, 2-Octyl, Iso
propoxy, 2-Methylpropoxy, 2-Methylbutoxy, 3-Methyl
butoxy, 2-Methylpentoxy, 3-Methylpentoxy, 2-Ethyl
hexoxy, 1-Methylhexoxy, 2-Octyloxy, 2-Oxa-3-methyl
butyl, 3-Oxa-4-methylpentyl, 4-Methylhexyl, 2-Nonyl,

Formel I umfaßt sowohl die Racemate dieser Verbindungen
als auch die optischen Antipoden sowie deren Gemische.
Unter diesen Verbindungen der Formel I sowie den Unter
formeln sind diejenigen bevorzugt, in denen mindestens
einer der darin enthaltenen Reste eine der angegebenen
bevorzugten Bedeutungen hat.
In den Verbindungen der Formel I sind diejenigen Stereo
isomeren bevorzugt, in denen der Ring Cyc trans-1,4-
disubstituiert ist. Diejenigen der vorstehend genannten
Formeln, die eine oder mehrere Gruppen Pyd, Pyr und/oder
Dio enthalten, umschließen jeweils die beiden 2,5-Stel
lungsisomeren.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I werden nach an sich bekann
ten Methoden dargestellt, wie sie in der Literatur (z. B.
in den Standardwerken wie Houben-Weyl Methoden der Orga
nischen Chemie, Georg-Thieme-Verlag, Stuttgart Bd IX,
S. 867 ff.) beschrieben sind, und zwar unter Reaktions
bedingungen, die für die genannten Umsetzungen bekannt
und geeignet sind. Dabei kann man auch von an sich be
kannten, hier nicht näher erwähnten Varianten Gebrauch
machen.
Die Ausgangsstoffe können gewünschtenfalls auch in situ
gebildet werden, derart, daß man sie aus dem Reaktions
gemisch nicht isoliert, sondern sofort weiter zu den Ver
bindungen der Formel I umsetzt.
So können die Verbindungen der Formel I hergestellt wer
den, indem man die entsprechenden Cyclohexanolverbindungen
mit Carbonyldifluorid und anschließend mit Schwefel
tetrafluorid umsetzt (vgl. W. A. Sheppard, J. Org. Chem.
29 (1964) 11). Eine andere Möglichkeit besteht darin,
die entsprechenden Alkoholverbindungen mit SCCl₂ und
anschließend mit SF₄/HF im Autoklaven umzusetzen.
Ferner können die Verbindungen der Formel I hergestellt wer
den, indem man eine Verbindung, die sonst der Formel I
entspricht, aber an Stelle von H-Atomen eine oder mehrere
reduzierbare Gruppen und/oder C-C-Bindungen enthält,
reduziert.
Als reduzierbare Gruppen kommen vorzugsweise Carbonyl
gruppen in Betracht, insbesondere Ketogruppen, ferner
z. B. freie oder veresterte Hydroxygruppen oder aromatisch
gebundene Halogenatome. Bevorzugte Ausgangsstoffe für die
Reduktion entsprechen der Formel I, können aber an Stelle
eines Cyclohexanringes einen Cyclohexenring oder Cyclo
hexanonring und/oder an Stelle einer -CH₂CH₂-Gruppe eine
-CH=CH-Gruppe und/oder an Stelle einer -CH₂-Gruppe eine
-CO-Gruppe und/oder an Stelle eines H-Atoms eine freie
oder eine funktionell (z. B. in Form ihres p-Toluolsul
fonats) abgewandelte OH-Gruppe enthalten.
Die Reduktion kann z. B. erfolgen durch katalytische
Hydrierung bei Temperaturen zwischen etwa 0° und etwa
200° sowie Drucken zwischen etwa 1 und 200 bar in einem
inerten Lösungsmittel, z. B. einem Alkohol wie Methanol,
Ethanol oder Isopropanol, einem Ether wie Tetrahydrofuran
(THF) oder Dioxan, einem Ester wie Ethylacetat, einer
Carbonsäure wie Essigester oder einem Kohlenwasserstoff
wie Cyclohexan. Als Katalysatoren eignen sich zweckmäßig
Edelmetalle wie Pt oder Pd, die in Form von Oxiden (z. B.
PtO₂, PdO), auf einem Träger (z. B. Pd auf Kohle, Calcium
carbonat oder Strontiumcarbonat) oder in feinverteilter
Form eingesetzt werden können.
Ketone können auch nach den Methoden von Clemmensen (mit
Zink, amalgamiertem Zink oder Zinn und Salzsäure, zweck
mäßig in wäßrig-alkoholischer Lösung oder in heterogener
Phase mit Wasser/Toluol bei Temperaturen zwischen etwa
80 und 120°) oder Wolff-Kishner (mit Hydrazin, zweckmäßig
in Gegenwart von Alkali wie KOH oder NaOH in einem hoch
siedenden Lösungsmittel wie Diethylenglykol oder Tri
ethylenglykol bei Temperaturen zwischen etwa 100 und
200°) zu den entsprechenden Verbindungen der Formel I,
die Alkylgruppen und/oder -CH₂CH₂-Brücken enthalten,
reduziert werden.
Weiterhin sind Reduktionen mit komplexen Hydriden möglich.
Beispielsweise können Arylsulfonyloxygruppen mit LiAlH₄
reduktiv entfernt werden, insbesondere p-Toluolsulfonyl
oxymethylgruppen zu Methylgruppen reduziert werden, zweck
mäßig in einem inerten Lösungsmittel wie Diethylether oder
THF bei Temperaturen zwischen etwa 0 und 100°. Doppel
bindungen können mit NaBH₄ oder Tributylzinnhydrid in
Methanol hydriert werden.
Ester der Formel I können auch durch Veresterung entspre
chender Carbonsäuren (oder ihrer reaktionsfähigen Deri
vate) mit Alkoholen bzw. Phenolen (oder ihren reaktions
fähigen Derivaten) erhalten werden.
Die entsprechenden Carbonsäuren und Alkohole bzw. Phenole
sind bekannt oder können in Analogie zu bekannten Ver
fahren hergestellt werden.
Als reaktionsfähige Derivate der genannten Carbonsäuren
eignen sich insbesondere die Säurehalogenide, vor allem
die Chloride und Bromide, ferner die Anhydride, z. B.
auch gemischte Anhydride, Azide oder Ester, insbesondere
Alkylester mit 1-4 C-Atomen in der Alkylgruppe.
Als reaktionsfähige Derivate der genannten Alkohole bzw.
Phenole kommen insbesondere die entsprechenden Metall
alkoholate bzw. Phenolate, vorzugsweise eines Alkali
metalls wie Natrium oder Kalium, in Betracht.
Die Veresterung wird vorteilhaft in Gegenwart eines
inerten Lösungsmittels durchgeführt. Gut geeignet sind
insbesondere Ether wie Diethylether, Di-n-butylether,
THF, Dioxan oder Anisol, Ketone wie Aceton, Butanon oder
Cyclohexanon, Amide wie DMF oder Phosphorsäurehexamethyl
triamid, Kohlenwasserstoffe wie Benzol, Toluol oder Xylol,
Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe wie Tetrachlorkohlenstoff oder
Tetrachlorethylen und Sulfoxide wie Dimethylsulfoxid oder
Sulfolan.
Ether der Formel I (worin R eine Alkoxygruppe bedeutet
und/oder worin Z¹ und/oder Z² eine -OCH₂- oder eine
-CH₂O-Gruppe ist) sind durch Veretherung entsprechender
Hydroxyverbindungen, vorzugsweise entsprechender Phenole,
erhätlich, wobei die Hydroxyverbindung zweckmäßig zu
nächst in ein entsprechendes Metallderivat, z. B. durch
Behandeln mit NaH, NaNH₂, NaOH, KOH, Na₂CO₃ oder K₂CO₃
in das entsprechende Alkalimetallalkoholat oder Alkali
metallphenolat übergeführt wird. Dieses kann dann mit
dem entsprechenden Alkylhalogenid, -sulfonat oder Dialkyl
sulfat umgesetzt werden, zweckmäßig in einem inerten
Lösungsmittel wie Aceton, 1,2-Dimethoxyethan, DMF oder
Dimethylsulfoxid oder auch einem Überschuß an wäßriger
oder wäßrig-alkoholischer NaOH oder KOH bei Temperaturen
zwischen etwa 20° und 100°.
Verbindungen der Formel I, worin A¹ und/oder A² durch
mindestens ein F- oder Cl-Atom und/oder eine CN-Gruppe
substituiert ist, können aus den entsprechenden Dia
zoniumsalzen durch Austausch der Diazoniumgruppe gegen
ein Fluor- oder Chloratom oder gegen eine CN-Gruppe,
z. B. nach den Methoden von Schiemann oder Sandmeyer,
erhalten werden.
Dioxanderivate der Formel I (worin eine der Gruppen A¹
und/oder A² eine 1,3-Dioxan-2,5-diyl-Gruppe bedeutet)
werden zwecksmäßig durch Reaktion eines entsprechenden
Aldehyds (oder eines seiner reaktionsfähigen Derivate)
mit einem entsprechenden 1,3-Diol (oder einem seiner
reaktionsfähigen Derivate) hergestellt, vorzugsweise
in Gegenwart eines inerten Lösungsmittels wie Benzol
oder Toluol und/oder eines Katalysators, z. B. einer
starken Säure wie Schwefelsäure, Benzol- oder p-Toluol
sulfonsäure, bei Temperaturen zwischen etwa 20° und etwa
150°, vorzugsweise zwischen 80° und 120°. Als reaktions
fähige Derivate der Ausgangsstoffe eignen sich in erster
Linie Acetale.
Die genannten Aldehyde und 1,3-Diole sowie ihre reaktions
fähigen Derivate sind zum Teil bekannt, zum Teil können
sie ohne Schwierigkeiten nach Standardverfahren der orga
nischen Chemie aus literaturbekannten Verbindungen herge
stellt werden. Beispielsweise sind die Aldehyde durch
Oxydation entsprechender Alkohole oder durch Reduktion
entsprechender Carbonsäuren oder ihrer Derivate, die Diole
durch Reduktion entsprechender Diester erhältlich.
Die erfindungsgemäßen flüssigkristallinen Medien enthalten
vorzugsweise neben einer oder mehreren erfindungsgemäßen
Verbindungen als weitere Bestandteile 2 bis 40, insbeson
dere 4 bis 30 Komponenten. Ganz besonders bevorzugt ent
halten diese Medien neben einer oder mehreren erfindungs
gemäßen Verbindungen 7 bis 25 Komponenten. Diese weiteren
Bestandteile werden vorzugsweise ausgewählt aus nemati
schen oder nematogenen (monotropen oder isotropen) Sub
stanzen, insbesondere Substanzen aus den Klassen der
Azoxybenzole, Benzylidenaniline, Biphenyle, Terphenyle,
Phenyl- oder Cyclohexylbenzoate, Cyclohexan-carbonsäure
phenyl- oder cyclohexyl-ester, Phenyl- oder Cyclohexyl
ester der Cyclohexylbenzoesäure, Phenyl- oder Cyclohexyl
ester der Cyclohexylcyclohexancarbonsäure, Cyclohexyl
phenylester der Benzoesäure, der Cyclohexancarbonsäure,
bzw. der Cyclohexylcyclohexancarbonsäure, Phenylcyclo
hexane, Cyclohexylbiphenyle, Phenylcyclohexylcyclohexane,
Cyclohexylcyclohexane, Cyclohexylcyclohexene, Cyclohexyl
cyclohexylcyclohexene, 1,4-Bis-cyclohexylbenzole, 4,4′-
Bis-cyclohexylbiphenyle, Phenyl- oder Cyclohexylpyrimidine,
Phenyl- oder Cyclohexylpyridine, Phenyl- oder Cyclohexyl
dioxane, Phenyl- oder Cyclohexyl-1,3-dithiane, 1,2-Di
phenylethane, 1,2-Dicyclohexylethane, 1-Phenyl-2-cyclo

-Cyc-Cyc-, -G-Phe- und -G-Cyc-.
R′ und R′′ bedeuten in den Verbindungen der Teilformeln
1a, 2a, 3a, 4a und 5a jeweils unabhängig voneinander
Alkyl, Alkenyl, Alkoxy, Alkenyloxy oder Alkanoyloxy mit
bis zu 8 Kohlenstoffatomen. Bei den meisten dieser Ver
bindungen sind R′ und R′′ voneinander verschieden, wobei
einer dieser Reste meist Alkyl oder Alkenyl ist. In den
Verbindungen der Teilformeln 1b, 2b, 3b, 4b und 5b be
deutet R′′ -CN, -CF₃, -OCF₃, -OCHF₂, F, Cl oder -NCS; R
hat dabei die bei den Verbindungen der Teilformeln 1a bis
5a angegebene Bedeutung und ist vorzugsweise Alkyl oder
Alkenyl. Aber auch andere Varianten der vorgesehenen Sub
stituenten in den Verbindungen der Formeln 1, 2, 3, 4
und 5 sind gebräuchlich. Viele solcher Substanzen oder
auch Gemische davon sind im Handel erhältlich. Alle diese
Substanzen sind nach literaturbekannten Methoden oder in
Analogie dazu erhältlich.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Medien enthalten vorzugsweise neben
Komponenten aus der Gruppe der Verbindungen 1a, 2a, 3a,
4a und 5a (Gruppe 1) auch Komponenten aus der Gruppe der
Verbindungen 1b, 2b, 3b, 4b und 5b (Gruppe 2), deren An
teile vorzugsweise wie folgt sind:
Gruppe 1: 20 bis 90%, insbesondere 30 bis 90%,
Gruppe 2: 10 bis 80%, insbesondere 10 bis 50%,
Gruppe 2: 10 bis 80%, insbesondere 10 bis 50%,
wobei die Summe der Anteile der erfindungsgemäßen Verbin
dungen und der Verbindungen aus den Gruppen 1 und 2 bis
zu 100% ergeben.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Medien enthalten vorzugsweise
1 bis 40%, insbesondere vorzugsweise 5 bis 30% an er
findungsgemäßen Verbindungen. Weiterhin bevorzugt sind
Medien, enthaltend mehr als 40%, insbesondere 45 bis
90% an erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen. Die Medien ent
halten vorzugsweise drei, vier oder fünf erfindungs
gemäße Verbindungen.
Die Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Medien erfolgt in
an sich üblicher Weise. In der Regel werden die Kompo
nenten ineinander gelöst, zweckmäßig bei erhöhter Tempe
ratur. Durch geeignete Zusätze können die flüssigkristal
linen Phasen nach der Erfindung so modifiziert werden,
daß sie in allen bisher bekannt gewordenen Arten von
Flüssigkristallanzeigeelementen verwendet werden können.
Derartige Zusätze sind dem Fachmann bekannt und in der
Literatur ausführlich beschrieben (H. Kelker/R. Hatz,
Handbook of Liquid Crystals, Verlag Chemie, Weinheim,
1980). Beispielsweise können pleochroitische Farbstoffe
zur Herstellung farbiger Guest-Host-Systeme oder Sub
stanzen zur Veränderung der dielektrischen Anisotropie,
der Viskosität und/oder der Orientierung der nematischen
Phasen zugesetzt werden.
Die folgenden Beispiele sollen die Erfindung erläutern,
ohne sie zu begrenzen. mp. = Schmelzpunkt, cp. = Klär
punkt. Vor- und nachstehend bedeuten Prozentangaben Ge
wichtsprozent; alle Temperaturen sind in Grad Celsius
angegeben. "Übliche Aufarbeitung" bedeutet: man gibt
Wasser hinzu, extrahiert mit Methylenchlorid, trennt ab,
trocknet die organische Phase, dampft ein und reinigt
das Produkt durch Kristallisation und/oder Chromato
graphie.

Unter Kühlung auf ca. -100° werden in einen 250-ml-
Hastelloy-Autoklaven, der 34,4 g (0,2 Mol) trans-4-
(trans-4-Pentylcyclohexyl)-cyclohexanol enthält, 20 g
(0,3 Mol) Carbonyldifluorid einkondensiert. Anschlie
ßend wird 4 Stunden unter autogenem Druck auf 170° er
wärmt. Nach Abkühlen auf Raumtemperatur werden die
flüchtigen Bestandteile in Natronlauge abgeleitet. Zum
Rückstand gibt man 100 ml Dichlormethan und 10 g Natrium
fluorid, rührt über Nacht, filtriert, rotiert das Filtrat
ein und destilliert den Rückstand im Vakuum. Das erhaltene
Fluoroformat wird in einen 250-ml-Hastelloy-Autoklaven
gegeben. Unter Kühlung mit einem Aceton-/Trockeneis-
Kühlbad werden ca. 26 g (ca. 0,25 Mol) Schwefeltetra
fluorid einkondensiert. Man erwärmt 2 Stunden auf 175°,
arbeitet dann das Reaktionsgemisch wie oben angegeben
auf. Zusätzlich wird vor der Destillation noch eine Rei
nigung über Kieselgel mit Hexan als Laufmittel durch
geführt. Nach der Destillation erhält man trans-4-(trans-
4-Pentylcyclohexyl)-trifluormethoxycyclohexan.

Claims (4)
1. Cyclohexanderivate der Formel I
worin
R¹ unsubstituiertes, einfach durch Cyan oder mindestens einfach durch Fluor oder Chlor substituiertes Alkyl mit 1-15 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl mit 2-15 C-Atomen, wobei in diesen Resten auch eine CH₂-Gruppe durch -O-, -CO-, -O-CO-, -CO-O- oder -O-CO-O- ersetzt sein kann,
A¹ und A² jeweils unabhängig voneinander trans-1,4- Cyclohexylen, worin auch eine oder zwei nicht bebachbarte CH₂-Gruppen durch -O- ersetzt sein können, oder unsubstituiertes oder ein- oder zweifach durch Fluor- und/oder Cl-Atome und/oder CH₃- und/oder CN-Gruppen substituiertes 1,4-Phenylen, worin auch eine oder zwei CH-Gruppen durch N ersetzt sein können,
Z¹ und Z² jeweils unabhängig voneinander -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH₂O-, -OCH₂-, -CH₂CH₂- oder eine Einfachbindung,
n 0, 1 oder 2
und
m 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 oder 6
bedeutet.
R¹ unsubstituiertes, einfach durch Cyan oder mindestens einfach durch Fluor oder Chlor substituiertes Alkyl mit 1-15 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl mit 2-15 C-Atomen, wobei in diesen Resten auch eine CH₂-Gruppe durch -O-, -CO-, -O-CO-, -CO-O- oder -O-CO-O- ersetzt sein kann,
A¹ und A² jeweils unabhängig voneinander trans-1,4- Cyclohexylen, worin auch eine oder zwei nicht bebachbarte CH₂-Gruppen durch -O- ersetzt sein können, oder unsubstituiertes oder ein- oder zweifach durch Fluor- und/oder Cl-Atome und/oder CH₃- und/oder CN-Gruppen substituiertes 1,4-Phenylen, worin auch eine oder zwei CH-Gruppen durch N ersetzt sein können,
Z¹ und Z² jeweils unabhängig voneinander -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH₂O-, -OCH₂-, -CH₂CH₂- oder eine Einfachbindung,
n 0, 1 oder 2
und
m 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 oder 6
bedeutet.
2. Verwendung der Cyclohexanderivate der Formel I nach
Anspruch 1 als Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Medien.
3. Flüssigkristallines Medium mit mindestens zwei
flüssigkristallinen Komponenten, dadurch gekenn
zeichnet, daß mindestens eine Komponente ein Cyclo
hexanderivat nach Anspruch 1 ist.
4. Elektrooptisches Anzeigelement, dadurch gekennzeich
net, daß es als Dielektrikum ein Medium nach An
spruch 3 enthält.
