Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Schmierfett, insbesondere eine
einen Lithium-Komplex aufweisende Schmierfettzusammensetzung,
die sich zur Anwendung in Nabeneinheiten von Personenkraftwagen
eignet. Aus Sicherheitsgründen werden mehr und mehr
Personenkraftwagen an der Vorderachse mit doppelreihigen
Schrägkontaktkugellagern anstelle von konischen Rollagern oder
Querlagern ausgestattet. Die doppelreihigen Schrägkontaktkugellager
werden mit anderen Teilen in einer sogenannten "Nabeneinheit
(der zweiten Generation)" (Hub-Unit (of the second
generation)) kombiniert, welche von Lagerfabrikanten erzeugt
wird. Die Einheiten werden an die Autoindustrie gefüllt mit
einem "lebenslang dauerhaften" (fill-for-life) Schmiermittel
geliefert. Die Nabeneinheiten haben jedoch den Nachteil, daß
sie zu Reibkorrosion (muldenähnliche Vertiefungen) an den
Innen- und Außenringen neigen, wenn man die Kraftfahrzeuge
über längere Strecken mit Schiff, Bahn oder Lastwagen transportiert.
Diese "Stillstandsmale oder -abdrücke" (stand still
marks) verursachen einen geräuschvollen Betrieb oder sogar ein
völliges Versagen der Lager. Man schätzt beispielsweise, daß
etwa 1% der deutschen Autos mit Nabeneinheiten von den
amerikanischen Verbrauchern wegen der Reibkorrosion zurückgewiesen
werden.
Von der Kugellager- wie von der Automobilindustrie wurden
Versuche unternommen, dieses Phänomen zu bewältigen. Es wurden
Veränderungen der Bauform und/oder der angewandten Materialien
vorgeschlagen, doch war bis jetzt noch keine Lösung zufriedenstellend.
Es ist eine Aufgabe der Erfindung, diese Nachteile zu
überwinden und ein verbessertes Schmierfett verfügbar zu
machen, das sich zur Anwendung in derartigen lebenslang
dauerhaft gefüllten Nabeneinheiten eignet.
Die Grundanforderungen, die geeignete Schmierfette für Nabeneinheiten
erfüllen müssen, sind die folgenden:
- - Betriebsbereich -40°C bis +150°C, d. h.
- (i) Niedertemperaturdrehung bei -40°C gemäß ASTM D 1478 muß gegeben sein (pass);
- (ii) Hochtemperaturtest im Lager Rig FAG FE 9 gemäß DIN 51 821 bei 150°C: L₅₀ min 100 h;
- (iii) Zimmertemperaturtest im Lager Rig FAG FE 8: min 500 h.
- - Keine Reibkorrosion, d. h. BMW Stillstandsvibration Rig muß gewährleistet sein (pass).
- - Effektiver Korrosionsschutz, d. h. Emcor-Korrosionstest gemäß DIN 51 802: Bewertung max. O.
- - Kein nennenswertes Schrumpfen bzw. Quellen von Dichtungen, d. h. Dichtungskompatibilität mit Neopren muß gewährleistet sein (pass).
Gemäß einem Aspekt der Erfindung wird eine einen Lithium-
Komplex aufweisende Schmierfettzusammensetzung geschaffen, die
einen größeren Anteil an mineralischem Schmieröl und insgesamt
12 bis 22, vorzugsweise 13 bis 18 Massen% eines Verdickungsmittels
enthält, das
- - mindestens eine Lithiumseife einer C₁₂- bis C₁₄-Hydroxyfettsäure,
- - mindestens ein Lithiumsalz von Borsäure,
- - mindestens ein Lithiumsalz einer Hydroxybenzoesäure und
- - mindestens ein Polyol als Modifizierer für die Schmierfettstruktur enthält, wobei das Schmierfett eine Walkpenetration (worked penetration) im Bereich von 280 bis 330 hat.
Vorzugsweise ist die Hydroxyfettsäure eine C₁₆- bis C₂₀-Säure,
die gesättigt oder ungesättigt sein kann. Monocarboxyfettsäuren
sind besonders bevorzugt. Eine Hydroxystearinsäure ist
ein bevorzugtes Material, besonders bevorzugt ist 12-Hydroxystearinsäure.
Die Hydroxybenzoesäure kann beispielsweise sein: Parahydroxybenzoesäure;
Salicylsäure; 2-Hydroxy-4-hexylbenzoesäure; Metahydroxybenzoesäure;
2,5-Dihydroxybenzoesäure (Gentisinsäure);
2,6-Dihydroxybenzoesäure (Gammaresorcylsäure); oder 4-Hydroxy-4-
methoxybenzoesäure. Bevorzugt sind Salicylsäure und Parahydroxybenzoesäure,
besonders die erstere.
Gemäß einem bedeutenden Merkmal der Erfindung kann man
anstelle der freien Hydroxysäure des letzteren Typs einen
niederen Alkoholester derselben verwenden, z. B. den Methyl-,
Ethyl-, Propyl-, Isopropyl- oder sec.-Butylester der Säure,
z. B. Methylsalicylat, um eine bessere Dispersion zu erzielen.
Ein derartiger C₁- bis C₃-Ester ist bevorzugt, insbesondere
der Methylester.
Der Polyolmodifizierer für die Schmierfettstruktur ist zweckmäßig
eine aliphatische Verbindung mit 2 bis 6 Hydroxygruppen.
Beispiele sind C₂- bis C₆-Diole, Polyalkylenglykole und
dreiwertige Alkohole, besonders Glycerin.
Das in dem Lithium-Komplex-Schmierfett der Erfindung anwesende
Lithiumborat kann beispielsweise Metaborat, Diborat, Tetraborat
oder Orthoborat sein wie z. B. Monolithiumorthoborat. Eine
Monolithiumverbindung ist bevorzugt.
Das Schmieröl des komplexen Schmierfetts besteht im wesentlichen
aus einem oder mehreren mineralischen Schmierölen. Ein
solches Öl bzw. derartige Öle haben im allgemeinen eine
Viskosität von 95 bis 120 mm²/s bei 40°C und können sich von
paraffinischen, naphthenischen sowie gemischten Rohölen
ableiten.
Die Schmierfette der Erfindung können natürlich ein oder
mehrere übliche Schmierfettadditive enthalten. Beispiele dafür
sind Oxydationsinhibitoren, Höchstdruckadditive, Rost- und
Korrosionsinhibitoren und Farbstoffe. Diese Additive sind in
den in Schmierfetten üblichen Mengen vorhanden.
Bevorzugte Schmierfette der Erfindung, ohne Additive, haben
eine Alkalität gemäß ASTM D 128 von 1,1 bis 1,5 Massen% NaOH,
besonders bevorzugt 1,2 bis 1,4. Dies ermöglicht die Erzielung
von Tropfpunkten von 290 bis 350, meist 290 bis 340°C.
Bevorzugte Schmierfette der Erfindung haben eine 60-Takt-
Walzpenetration (60-stroke worked penetration) gemäß ASTM D
217 von 300 bis 330 mm-1.
Die beigefügte Fig. 2 zeigt die Art der möglichen Beziehung
gemäß Erfindung zwischen dem Tropfpunkt und der Walkpenetration
einerseits und der Alkalität andererseits.
Die Kombination von (i) einer Walkpenetration von 280 bis 330,
besonders 300 bis 330, und (ii) einem Verdickergehalt von 12
bis 22, besonders 13 bis 18 Massen% befähigt das Schmierfett
der Erfindung, die obengenannten Anforderungen für Betriebsbereich
und Reibkorrosion zu erfüllen.
Wenn die Walkpenetration über 330 ist, kommt es bei 150°C zu
einem beträchtlichen Lecken aus der Nabeneinheit; wenn sie
unter 290 ist, werden die Erfordernissse der Niedertemperatur-
(-40°C)-Drehung (oder -Drehkraft) und Reibkorrosionsverhinderung
nicht erfüllt. Ein Verdickergehalt oberhalb von 22 Massen%
führt zu einem nicht annehmbaren Niedertemperaturverhalten,
von weniger als 12 Massen% zu einem Versagen in den Stillstandsvibrationstests
(standstill vibration tests).
Gemäß einem anderen Aspekt der Erfindung wird ein Verfahren
zum Herstellen der den Lithiumkomplex enthaltenden oben
definierten Schmierfettzusammensetzung verfügbar gemacht,
wobei das Mineralöl und die den Verdicker bildenden Bestandteile
in einem Reaktor erhitzt werden und das Erhitzen so
durchgeführt wird, daß die Maximaltemperatur der in dem
Reaktor befindlichen Masse oder Beschickung in dem Bereich von
190°C bis 205°C liegt und sich die Wandtemperatur des Reaktors
bei einer Temperatur in dem Bereich von 40°C bis 60°C,
vorzugsweise 45°C bis 55°C, oberhalb der Temperatur der
Beschickung befindet.
Vorzugsweise liegt die Temperatur der Beschickung in dem
Bereich von 190°C bis 200°C. Es besteht eine Beziehung
zwischen der Beschickungstemperatur und dem Temperaturgefälle,
Reaktor(Kessel)-Wand-/Schmierfettbeschickungstemperatur einerseits
und der Walkpenetration andererseits, wie Fig. 1 zeigt.
Überraschenderweise wurde gefunden, daß eine genaue Steuerung
der Beschickungstemperatur und des Temperaturgradienten es
möglich macht, ein Schmierfett herzustellen, das die erforderlichen
Eigenschaften eines "lebenslänglich haltbaren" Schmierfetts
für Nabeneinheiten aufweist.
Die folgende Tabelle zeigt die Mengenanteile in Massen% der
Komponenten, die angewandt werden können:
In dem folgenden Beispiel wird die Herstellung eines Schmierfetts
der Erfindung beschrieben
13,5 m% 12 Hydroxystearinsäure und 2,88 m% Methylsalicylat
wurden in 50 m% Stanco Base 600 gelöst. Die Bestandteile des
Verdickers wurden erwärmt und mit einer wäßrigen Lösung
umgesetzt, die aus Borsäure (1,10 m%), Glycerin (0,22 m%) und
Lithiumhydroxid (3,80 m%) sowie heißem Wasser bestand. Dieses
Rezept führt zu einer Alkalität von 1,2 m% NaOH (bezogen auf
die gesamte Formulierung). Nach der Verseifung wurden 15%
Grundstoff oder Grundöl zugegeben und die Bestandteile wurden
auf eine Beschickungstemperatur von 195°C erhitzt, wobei die
Wandtemperatur 235°C bis 255°C betrug. Nach schnellem Abkühlen
durch Kühlen des Grundstoffs und Kesselmantels auf 150°C
wurden ein Oxydationsinhibitor und Zinknaphthenat eingebaut.
Vor der Einstellung der Konsistenz wurden 0,5 m% Arquad-2c-
Nitrite und gelöstes Ebano 80 (10,4 m%) bei etwa 70°C
zugegeben. Das so eingestellte Schmierfett wurde vermahlen,
filtriert und vor dem Verpacken entlüftet.
Das so hergestellte Schmierfett wies die folgenden Eigenschaften
auf:
Alkalität m% NaOH: 1,20
Walkpenetration: 320
Tropfpunkt °C: <300
Wasserauswaschbewertung DIN 51 807: 2
Walkpenetration: 320
Tropfpunkt °C: <300
Wasserauswaschbewertung DIN 51 807: 2
Dieses Schmierfett wurde dann mit 7 handelsüblichen Schmierfetten
der in Tabelle 1 gezeigten Typen verglichen. Der
Vergleich fand in 6 Tests statt. Diese Tests und die erzielten
Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle 2 gezeigt.
Es ist ersichtlich, daß nur das Schmierfett der Erfindung alle
Anforderungen erfüllt.
Claims (10)
1. Schmierfettzusammensetzung mit Gehalt an einem Lithium-
Komplex, gekennzeichnet durch einen größeren Anteil an
mineralischem Schmieröl und insgesamt 15 bis 22, vorzugsweise
13 bis 18 Massen% Verdickungsmittel, das
- - mindestens eine Lithiumseife einer C₁₂- bis C₁₄-Hydroxyfettsäure,
- - mindestens ein Lithiumsalz von Borsäure,
- - mindestens ein Lithiumsalz einer Hydroxybenzoesäure und
- - mindestens ein Polyol als Modifizierer für die
Schmierfettstruktur enthält;
wobei das Schmierfett eine Walkpenetration in dem Bereich von 280 bis 330 hat.
2. Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die Hydroxyfettsäure eine C₁₆- bis
C₂₀-Hydroxyfettsäure ist.
3. Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 2, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die Säure eine Stearinsäure, vorzugsweise
12-Hydroxystearinsäure, ist.
4. Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach einem der vorhergehenden
Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Hydroxybenzoesäure
Salicylsäure ist.
5. Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach einem der vorhergehenden
Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Polyol
Glycerin ist.
6. Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach einem der vorhergehenden
Ansprüche, gekennzeichnet durch einen Tropfpunkt von
290°C bis 350°C.
7. Verfahren zum Herstellen der den Lithium-Komplex
aufweisenden Schmierfettzusammensetzung nach einem der
vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man
das Mineralöl und die den Verdicker bildenden Bestandteile
in einem Reaktor erhitzt, wobei das Erhitzen derart
durchgeführt wird, daß die Maximaltemperatur der
Beschickung in dem Reaktor in dem Bereich von 190°C bis
205°C liegt und daß die Wandtemperatur des Reaktors bei
einer Temperatur in dem Bereich von 40°C bis 60°C,
vorzugsweise 45°C bis 55°C über der Temperatur der
Beschickung ist.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
die Temperatur der Beschickung in dem Bereich von 190°C
bis 200°C liegt.
9. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 8 oder 9, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die zur Bildung des Verdickers
angewandte Menge an Lithiumhydroxid 1,2 bis 1,4 Massen%
(berechnet als Natriumhydroxid) im Überschuß zu der zur
Neutralisation der angewandten Säure erforderliche Menge
vorhanden ist.
10. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 8 bis 10, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß ein C₁- bis C₃-Alkylester, vorzugsweise
der Methylester, der Hydroxybenzoesäure, teilweise oder
gänzlich anstelle der freien Säure verwendet wird.
