Description
- Diese Erfindung betrifft ein Schmiermittel zur Verwendung beim Heißverformen bzw. Heißschmieden von Aluminium- und Aluminiumlegierungs-Komponenten. Insbesondere betrifft diese Erfindung ein umweltverträgliches Schmiermittel zur Verwendung beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium- und Aluminiumlegierungs-Komponenten.
- Das Heißschmieden bzw. Heißbearbeiten von Aluminiumlegierungs- Komponenten erfordert die Verwendung eines geeigneten Schmiermittels. Solche Schmiermittel werden auf die Schmiedeform und das Werkstück aufgetragen, um eine ausreichende Bewegung in den Formhohlräumen zu ermöglichen und um erlauben, daß der Schmiedeprozeß viele Male aufeinanderfolgend mit oder ohne die erneute Auftragung des Schmiermittels wiederholt wird. Typischerweise enthalten Schmiermittel des Standes der Technik eine oder mehrere organische Bleiverbindungen, wie etwa Bleinaphthenat und Bleistearat. Es wurde festgestellt, daß die organischen Bleiverbindungen die richtige Bewegung der Form während des Schmiedeprozesses am besten erleichtern.
- Obgleich organische Bleiverbindungen bei dieser Anwendung sehr gut funktionieren, wird die Verwendung von Blei seit kurzem aufgrund der mit Blei in der Atmosphäre verbundenen Gesundheitsgefahren abgelehnt. Beim Heißverformen von Aluminium wird ein Teil des im Schmiermittel vorhandenen organischen Bleis in unakzeptablen Mengen in der Atmosphäre dispergiert. Lokale und nationale Aufsichtsbehörden der Regierung haben die Verwendung von Blei in bestimmten Industrien verboten oder haben die erlaubten Konzentrationen von Blei in der Atmosphäre streng limitiert, wie es z.B. aus dem Title 29 of the U.S.A. Code of Federal Regulations hervorgeht. Wenn die Verwendung von Blei bei Heißschmiedeanwendungen fortgesetzt werden sollte, wäre es erforderlich, daß für Heißschmiedeanlagen sehr teure Abluft- und Luftfiltrationssysteme installiert werden, um die Konzentration von atmosphärischem Blei auf akzeptable Grenzen zu verringern. Solche Abluft- und Luftfiltrationssysteme wären für die meisten Aluminium-Heißschmiedeanlagen wirtschaftlich nicht tragbar.
- Es wäre daher wünschenswert, ein umweltverträgliches Schmiermittel zur Anwendung in der Aluminium-Heißschmiedeindustrie zu besitzen, das die gleichen Leistungsmerkmale wie Schmiermittel des Standes der Technik aufweist, aber kein Blei enthält, das während des Heißschmiedeverfahrens in die Atmosphäre dispergiert werden kann.
- In der US-A-3 472 770 sind Zusammensetzungen mit Schmiermitteleigenschaften beschrieben, die Calciumkomplexfette, wie etwa ein langkettiges Calcium-Fettsäuresalz, mit Polyisobutylen, einem paraffinischen Mineralöl (oxidierter Brightstock) und teilchenförmigen Füllmitteln, wie etwa Graphit oder Kohleschwarz, enthalten. Diese Zusammensetzungen dienen zur Verwendung als Getriebefette und es ist bisher nicht vorgeschlagen worden, daß solche Fette als Schmiermittel bei Metallheißschmiedearbeiten verwendet werden könnten.
- Eine Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es somit, ein verbessertes Heißschmiede-Schmiermittel bereitzustellen.
- Eine weitere Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein verbessertes Heißschmiede-Schmiermittel bereitzustellen, das ähnliche Leistungsmerkmale wie organisches Blei enthaltende Heißschmiede- Schmiermittel des Standes der Technik aufweist.
- Noch eine weitere Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein verbessertes Heißschmiede-Schmiermittel bereitzustellen, das kein Blei enthält, das während des Heißschmiedeprozesses in die Atmosphäre dispergiert werden könnte.
- Andere Aufgaben, Vorteile und neue Merkmale der Erfindung sind für den Fachmann ohne weiteres bei Betrachtung der folgenden Beschreibung der Erfindung erkennbar.
- Erfindungsgemäß wird ein Heißschmiede-Schmiermittel bereitgestellt, das eine Metallseife-Zusammensetzung, Polybuten, Mineralöl, Graphit, einen Verdicker und ein aliphatisches Lösungsmittel umfaßt. Die Metallseife-Zusammensetzung kann aus einem oder mehreren metallorganischen Salzen bestehen, worin die Metallkomponente aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Zink, Magnesium, Kupfer und Lithium, ausgewählt werden kann, und worin die organische Komponente aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Naphthenat und Fettsäuren mit 1-30 Kohlenstoffatomen, insbesondere Stearat und Oleat, ausgewählt werden kann. Die Metallseife-Zusammensetzung ist im Schmiermittel im Anteil von 5-30% vorhanden, das Polybuten ist im Anteil von 4-15% vorhanden, der Graphit ist im Anteil von 3-10% vorhanden, der Verdicker ist im Anteil von 2-10% vorhanden, das Mineralöl ist im Anteil von 0-20% vorhanden und der Rest der Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzung enthält ein aliphatisches Lösungsmittel. Das aliphatische Lösungsmittel hat vorzugsweise einen Flammpunkt irgendwo zwischen etwa 100-150ºF (37,8ºC-65,6ºC).
- Das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel enthält günstigerweise keine organischen Bleiprodukte. Daher bringt seine Verwendung beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium kein Blei in die Atmosphäre, wo es für Arbeiter eine Gesundheitsgefahr sein könnte. Dennoch arbeitet das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen zufriedenstellend. Weiterhin wird das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel leicht aus einfach erhältlichen, kommerziellen Schmiermittelbestandteilen gemischt.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung ist eine verbesserte Schmiedezusammensetzung, die 5-30% einer Metallseife-Zusammensetzung, 4-15% Polybuten, 3-10% Graphit, 2-10% Verdicker, 0-20% Mineralöl und ein aliphatisches Lösungsmittel enthält. Es soll klargestellt werden, daß alle Prozentangaben in dieser Beschreibung und in den Ansprüchen in Gewichtsprozent angegeben sind, ohne Rücksicht darauf, ob der Bestandteil fest oder flüssig ist.
- Die Metallseife-Zusammensetzung enthält ein oder mehrere metallorganische Salze. Die organische Komponente ist eine Fettsäure mit 10-30 Kohlenstoffatomen oder Naphthenat. Neben dem Naphthenat sind Stearat und Oleat bevorzugte Fettsäuren. Das Metall kann aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Zink, Magnesium, Kupfer und Lithium, ausgewählt werden. Bei Zink als verwendetem Metall hat man festgestellt, daß wenn das Zink etwa 1,5-2% der gesamten Schmiermittelzusammensetzung ist, das Schmiermittel beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium- und Aluminiumlegierungsteilen äquivalente Leistungseigenschaften wie Schmiermittel des Standes der Technik mit Blei hat. Eine Erhöhung der Konzentration von Zink über 2% verbessert die Leistungseigenschaften des Schmiermittels nicht signifikant. Insbesondere bevorzugt sind die Zinkstearate und Naphthenate, weil sie eine relativ höhere Konzentration an Zink haben. Bei Magnesium, Kupfer oder Lithium als verwendetem Metall hat man festgestellt, daß wenn der Metallgehalt 1,5-2% der gesamten Schmiermittelzusammensetzung ist, das Schmiermittel beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium- und Aluminiumlegierungsteilen äquivalente oder leicht geringere Leistungseigenschaften wie Schmiermittel des Standes der Technik mit Blei hat. Der Metallgehalt dieser Seifen ist auf einer Gewichtsprozentbasis erheblich geringer als der Metallgehalt der Zinkseifen. Daher sind Schmiermittel, die Seifen dieser Metalle enthalten, nicht so kommerziell geeignet wie solche, die Zinkseifen enthalten, obwohl sie bei der vorliegenden Erfindung zufriedenstellend verwendet werden können.
- Das Polybuten unterstützt die Schmiereigenschaften der erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzung durch Benetzen der Oberflächen der Form und des zu schmiedenden Werkstücks. Die Viskosität des Polybutens kann von 600.000 bis 800.000 SUS (1,2987 x 10&sup5; bis 1,7316 x 10&sup5; mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei 100ºF (37,8ºC) reichen. Das Polybuten mit höherer Viskosität liefert bessere Leistungseigenschaften beim Heißschmiedeprozeß. Sorten mit geringerer Viskosität können dazu neigen, die Leistung des Heißschmiede-Schmiermittels zu verringern. Das Polybuten sollte auch ein ausreichend hohes Molekulargewicht haben, aber nicht so hoch, daß das Polybuten fest wird. Im allgemeinen liefert ein Molekulargewicht von etwa 2.000- 2.300 gute Leistungseigenschaften.
- Der Graphit in der erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzung bewirkt eine physikalische Trennung zwischen dem Werkstück und der Form während des Schmiedevorgangs. ESowohl natürlicher als auch synthetischer Graphit können zufriedenstellend verwendet werden. Die Wahl von synthetischem gegenüber natürlichem Graphit kann aus wirtschaftlichen Erwägungen getroffen werden. Eine Teilchengröße von 325 mesh (45 um) oder feiner gibt eine sehr gute Leistung. Gröbere Sorten scheinen die Oberfläche der Form und des Werkstücks nicht mit derselben Gleichmäßigkeit wie die feineren Sorten zu beschichten.
- Das in der Schmierzusammensetzung gemäß vorliegender Erfindung verwendete Mineralöl kann günstigerweise aus behandelten naphthenischen Basissorten hergestellt werden. Während Schmiermittel, die Mineralöle paraffinischen Ursprungs enthalten, es einem erlauben, Schmiedestücke zu erzeugen, die innerhalb akzeptabler Dimensionstoleranzen liegen, lassen sie einen schwer zu entfernenden Rückstand auf den Schmiedestücken zurück. Somit sind Mineralöle von naphthenischem gegenüber solchen von paraffinischem Ursprung zur Verwendung in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermitteln bevorzugt.
- Die Bedingungen des jeweiligen Schmiedevorgangs bestimmen die bevorzugte Viskosität des verwendeten Mineralöls. Im allgemeinen sorgen Öle mit höherer Viskosität und höherem mittleren Molekulargewicht für ein besseres Fließen des Metalls und somit für eine leichtere Formung und einen geringeren Energieverbrauch. Solche Öle mit höherer Viskosität neigen jedoch dazu, beim Schmiedevorgang einen schwarzen Rauch zu erzeugen. Somit mag unter weniger rigorosen Bedingungen die Verwendung von Ölen mit geringerer Viskosität wünschenswert sein, um dadurch die Erzeugung von unerwünschtem Rauch verringern. Unter weniger harten Schmiedebedingungen kann beispielsweise ein Mineralöl mit einer Viskosität von 70 bis 100 SUS (15,2 bis 21,6 mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei 100ºF (37,8ºC) zufriedenstellende Schmiedestücke erzeugen, während der unerwünschte schwarze Rauch vermieden wird, der erzeugt werden kann, wenn Mineralöle mit höherer Viskosität im Schmiermittel verwendet werden. Ein viel höherer Viskositätsgrad, wie etwa einer mit einer Viskosität von etwa 1200 SUS (259,7 mm²/s (Centistokes)) bis zu etwa 8.000 bis 10.000 SUS (1731,6 bis 2164,5 mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei 100ºF (37,8ºC) oder mehr kann jedoch notwendig sein, um akzeptable Produkte unter härteren Schmiedebedingungen zu erzeugen, ohne Rücksicht auf seine Neigung zur Erzeugung von etwas Rauch. Sofern es die Leistung des Schmiermittels betrifft, gibt es keine bekannte obere Grenze für die Viskosität der Mineralölkomponente außer derjenigen, die durch die kommerzielle Verfügbarkeit von akzeptablen Ölen mit höherer Viskosität bedingt ist.
- Ein Verdicker ist wünschenswert, um den Graphit in der flüssigen Suspension zu belassen und um die Suspension gleichmäßig zu halten. Bevorzugte Verdicker sind Stearinsäure, Natriumstearat und Gemische der beiden. Die Stearinsäure hat eine geringere Schmelztemperatur und ist im allgemeinen leichter bei der Formulierung der Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzung handhabbar. Die Verwendung des Verdickers beseitigt für den Anwender die Erfordernis, das Produkt während des Schmiedevorgangs kontinuierlich zu mischen, wobei dieses Mischen ansonsten erforderlich wäre, um die Gleichförmigkeit der Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzung zu garantieren. Der Verdicker verleiht der Zusammensetzung auch zusätzliche Schmierfähigkeit.
- Das aliphatische Lösungsmittel kann geruchloses Lösungsbenzin sein. Dieses Lösungsmittel ist über einen Bereich von Flammtemperaturen kommerziell erhältlich. Lösungsmittel mit Flammtemperaturen von etwa 100-150ºF (37,8ºC-65,6ºC) sind für diese Anwendung geeignet und Lösungsmittel mit Flammtemperaturen von 105ºF (40,6ºC) und 140ºF (60,0ºC) haben sich als gut geeignet erwiesen.
- Die folgenden Beispiele sind typisch für Schmiermittel- Formulierungen, die umweltverträglich sind und in den Bereich der vorliegenden Erfindung kommen.

- Die obigen Beispiele wurden auf einer Reihe von heißgeschmiedeten Aluminiumgegenständen getestet. Diese reichten von sehr großen Teilen, wie etwa Aluminiumradnaben, bis zu präzisionsgeschmiedeten Teilen für Anwendungen in der Luft- und Raumfahrt. Die Formtemperaturen variierten von 400ºF bis 700ºF (204,4ºC bis 371,1ºC) und die Werkstück-Temperaturen von 600ºF bis 800ºF (315,6ºC bis 426,7ºC). Das Schmiermittel wurde auf die Formen und Teile gesprüht und das Schmiermittel flammte und brannte sauber. Es erzeugte keine übermäßigen Mengen von sichtbarem Rauch. Es wurde keine übermäßige Ablagerung und Verklebung der Formen beobachtet. Alle Schmiede-Dimensionstoleranzen wurden erfüllt. Insgesamt war die Leistung gleich wie die einer Hochleistungs-Schmiedeverbindung auf Bleibasis.
- Bei manchen Anwendungsformen kann es undurchführbar sein, die Formen und Werkstücke einzusprühen. In solchen Situationen ist es bevorzugt, eine Formulierung zu haben, die auf diese Stücke aufgestrichen werden kann. Eine solche Formulierung kann 5-30% Metallseife-Zusammensetzung, 4-15% Polybuten, 3-20% Graphit, 2-10% Verdicker enthalten, und wobei der Rest der Zusammensetzung Mineralöl umfaßt. Das folgende Beispiel veranschaulicht eine Formulierung inerhalb des Umfangs der vorliegenden Erfindung, die in Form einer Paste statt einer sprühbaren Flüssigkeit ist.

- Die obige Formulierung wurde durch Einstreichen des Stempels und der Form aufgebracht, um ein großes Aluminium-Hohlgehäuse zu schmieden. Die Ergebnisse waren zufriedenstellend.
- Die das aliphatische Lösungsmittel enthaltenden Ausführungsformen der Erfindung, wie durch die Beispiele I-V veranschaulicht, können auf die folgende Weise hergestellt werden: ein erster Tank wird mit einem Mischer und einem Prozeßheizmittel versehen. Dieser Tank wird mit allen flüssigen Bestandteilen der erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzung mit Ausnahme des Lösungsmittels beschickt. Im Fall von Beispiel I umfassen diese Bestandteile das Zinknaphthenat, Polybuten und Mineralöl. Diese Bestandteile werden auf etwa 220-250ºF (104,4ºC-121,1ºC) unter Mischen erhitzt, bis man ein homogenes Gemisch erhält. Zu diesem Gemisch werden die festen Bestandteile außer dem Natriumstearat, d.h. das Zinkstearat, der Graphit und die Stearinsäure gegeben. Die Heizung wird abgeschaltet und das Gemisch wird mit fortgesetztem Mischen auf etwa 180ºF (82,2ºC) abkühlen gelassen. Wenn das Gemisch eine zu tiefe Temperatur erreicht, dann kann es zu dick werden, um leicht gehandhabt zu werden. Während des Abkühlens des Gemisches wird ein zweiter Tank, der mit einem Mischer, aber nicht mit einem Heizmittel versehen ist, mit dem aliphatischen Lösungsmittel beschickt und das Natriumstearat wird darin dispergiert. Das Natriumstearat löst sich nicht bei Umgebungstemperaturen. Der Inhalt des ersten Tanks wird dann in den zweiten Tank gegeben. Der Inhalt des ersten Tanks muß ausreichend kühl sein, so daß der vereinigte Inhalt eine Temperatur unterhalb des Flammpunkts des aliphatischen Lösungsmittels hat. Das Lösungsmittel wirkt in dieser Hinsicht zur Verringerung der Temperatur des Inhalts des ersten Tanks. Die vereinigten Bestandteile werden bis zur Homogenität vermischt. Die erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel- Zusammensetzung ist bereit, um in Trommeln überführt zu werden, z.B. durch große Diaphragmapumpen.
- Bei der Ausführungsform, in der kein aliphatisches Lösungsmittel verwendet wird, wie in Beispiel VI veranschaulicht, kann die Zusammensetzung einfach durch Beschicken eines mit einem Mischer und einem Heizmittel versehenen Tanks mit den flüssigen Bestandteilen der Zusammensetzung, Erhitzen der Bestandteile unter Rühren auf etwa 220-250ºF (104,4ºC-121,1ºC), Einmischen der festen Bestandteile und Abkühlenlassen des Gemisches unter fortgesetztem Mischen hergestellt werden. Wenn die Zusammensetzung etwa 140- 160ºF (60ºC-71,1ºC) erreicht, ist sie zur Überführung in andere Behälter bereit.
- Die vorangehenden Beispiele sollen nur zur Veranschaulichung der umweltverträglichen Schmiermittel, die innerhalb des Umfangs der vorliegenden Erfindung sind, dienen. Diese Schmiermittel sind besonders zur Anwendung beim Heißschmieden von Aluminium- Werkstücken geeignet, bei denen die Oberflächentemperaturen im allgemeinen geringer als beim Schmieden von Metall, wie etwa Stahl, sind. Weiterhin enthalten die erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel günstigerweise kein Blei, das ansonsten beim Schmiedeprozeß in der Atmosphäre dispergiert und eine mögliche Gesundheitsgefährdung darstellen würde.
Claims (15)
1. Bleifreies Schmiermittel, das von 5% bis zu 30% Metallseife-
Zusammensetzung, von 4% bis zu 15% Polybuten, von 3% bis zu 10%
Graphit, von 2% bis zu 10% Verdicker, von 0% bis zu 20% Mineralöl
und ein aliphatisches Lösungsmittel mit einem Flammpunkt von etwa
100-150ºF (37,8ºC-65,5ºC) enthält.
2. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, worin die
Metallseife-Zusammensetzung aus einer oder mehreren metallorganischen Verbindungen
besteht, worin die Metallkomponente für jede Verbindung aus Zink,
Magnesium, Kupfer und Lithium ausgewählt ist und worin die
organische Komponente aus Stearat, Naphthenat und Oleat ausgewählt
ist.
3. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, worin das Polybuten einen
Viskositätsbereich von 600.000 (1,2987 x 10&sup5;) bis zu 800.000 SUS
(1,7316 x 10&sup5; mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei 100ºF (37,8ºC) aufweist.
4. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 3, worin das Polybuten ein
mittleres Molekulargewicht im Bereich von 2000 bis 2300 aufweist.
5. Schmiermittel nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin
der Graphit 325 mesh (45 um) oder feiner ist.
6. Schmiermittel nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin
der Verdicker aus Natriumstearat und Stearinsäure ausgewählt ist.
7. Schmiermittel nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin
das Mineralöl eine Viskosität von 70 SUS (15, 2 mm²/s
(Centistokes)) bis zu 10.000 SUS (2164,5 mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei
100ºF (37,8ºC) aufweist.
8. Schmiermittel nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin
das aliphatische Lösungsmittel geruchloses Lösungsbenzin enthält.
9. Bleifreies Schmiermittel, das 5-30%
Metallseife-Zusammensetzung, 4-15% Polybuten, 3-20% Graphit, 2-10% Verdicker enthält
und wobei der Rest des Schmiermittels Mineralöl von naphthenischem
Ursprung enthält, wobei das Schmiermittel in Form einer Paste ist.
10. Schmiermittel nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, enthaltend
etwa 5% Stearinsäure, etwa 5,5% eines Mineralöls mit einer
Viskosität von 1200 SUS (259,7 Centistokes) bei 100ºF (37,8ºC),
etwa 5,5% Graphit, etwa 11% Zinknaphthenat, etwa 3%
Natriumstearat, etwa 6% Polybuten und etwa 64% eines aliphatischen
Lösungsmittels.
11. Schmiermittel nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, enthaltend
etwa 5% Stearinsäure, etwa 10% eines Mineralöls mit einer
Viskosität von 10.000 SUS (2164,5 mm²/s (Centistokes)) bei 100ºF
(37,8ºC), etwa 5% Graphit, etwa 9% Zinknaphthenat, etwa 3%
Natriumstearat, etwa 6% Polybuten, etwa 18% eines aliphatischen
Lösungsmittels mit einem Flammpunkt von 105ºF (40,5ºC) und etwa
44% eines aliphatischen Lösungsmittels mit einem Flammpunkt von
140ºF (60ºC)
12. Verfahren zum Heißschmieden eines Aluminium- oder
Aluminiumlegierungs-Gegenstands aus einem Werkstück, wobei das Verfahren
umfaßt:
Aufbringen einer Beschichtung eines bleifreien Schmiermittels nach
einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 11 auf eine Schmiedevorrichtung,
Einsetzen des Werkstücks in die Schmiedevorrichtung und
Schmieden des Gegenstands aus dem Werkstück.
13. Verfahren nach Anspruch 12, worin das Schmiermittel durch
Sprühen auf die Schmiedevorrichtung aufgebracht wird.
14. Verfahren nach Anspruch 12 oder 13, weiterhin umfassend das
Aufbringen einer Beschichtung des Schmiermittels auf das
Werkstück.
15. Verwendung einer Pastenzusammensetzung, die 5-30% Metallseife-
Zusammensetzung, 4-15% Polybuten, 3-20% Graphit, 2-10% Verdicker
enthält, wobei der Rest der Zusammensetzung Mineralöl enthält, als
Schmiermittel beim Heißschmieden einer Aluminiumlegierung aus
einem Werkstück.
