Cumarin- und Benzo cumarinderivate

Die Erfindung betrifft Derivate von Cumarin und Benzocuraarin,
die als Pigmente mit einer primelgelben bis orangen Farbe geeignet sind.
Sait vielen Jahren werden gelbe Schwermetallpigmente, z.B.
Bleichromat, Cadmiumsulfid und Nickeltitanat, in-weitem
Ausmaß in der Anstrich- und Kunst stoff Industrie verwandet.
Die potentielle Toxizität und die Umweltsprobleme, die mit ihrer Herstellung und Verwendung einhergehen, haben jedoch
dazu geführt, daß in neuerer Zeit die Industrie nach Alternativen für diese Schwermetallpigmente sucht.
Organische Gelbpigmente, die von Schwermetallen frei sind,
stellen eine mögliche Alternative für die derzeit verwendeten anorganischen Gelbpigmente dar* Solche Alternativen müßten
jedoch eine ausgezeichnete Durchschlagfestigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit haben. Sie müssen auch glänzend intensive'
Farbschattierungen haben, damit sie mit einem weißen Pigment,
wie TiOp, verschnitten werden können, um die erforderliche Undurchlässigkeit zu erhalten, während die benötigte Farbstärke
beibehalten wird. Die verfügbaren organischen Gelbpigmente genügen nicht allen diesen Erfordernissen.
Derzeit werden sechs Grundtypen von organischen Gelbpigmenten
verwendet (vergl. z.B. J.Lenoir in "The Chemistry of
Synthetic Dyes", Band V, K.Venkataramen, Ed., Academic
Press, New York, 1971). Es handelt sich um Monoazo-, Diary
lid-, Kondensationsazo-, Isoindolinon-, Anthrachinon- und Metallchelatpigmente. Jede Gruppe hat jedoch einen oder
mehrere Nachteile. Monoazogelbpigin&nte haben im allgemeinen
eine schlechte Durchschlagfestigkeit und eine gerade- noch
ausreichende Dauerhaftigkeit. Diarylidgelbpigmente haben eine schlechte Dauerhaftigkeit. Kondensationsasogelbpigmente
haben eine gerade noch ausreichende Dauerhaftigkeit und ihre Verwendung ist teuer. Isoindolinon- und Anthra-

chinongelbpigmente haben eine relativ niedrige. Farbstärke und ihre Verwendung ist teuer. Metallchelatgelbpigmente
sind matt und sind oftmals grüne Pigmente und die sich aus Schwermetallen ergebenden Probleme werden nicht vollständig
vermieden.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist eine neue Klasse von gelben bis orangen organischen Pigmenten. Diese neuen Verbindungen
ergeben glänzend intensive Farben mit ausgezeichneter Durchschlagfestigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit. Sie sind besonders gut
für die Pigmentierung von Anstrichen, Kunststoffen und Druckfarben geeignet. Sie stellen ausgezeichnete Alternativen
für die potentiell toxischen anorganischen Pigmente dar, die derzeit in Verwendung sind.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Pigmente, die Derivate von
Cumarin, 5,6-Benzocumarin und 7,8-Benzocumarin darstellen
und die die allgemeine Formel

Wie oben ausgeführt, betrifft die vorliegende Erfindung eine neue Klasse von organischen Pigmenten, die in ihrer Farbe
von Gelb bis Orange variieren können. Diese neuen Verbindungen ergeben glänzende, intensive Farben mit ausgezeichneter Durchschlagfestigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit. Sie sind
durch die Formel I charakterisiert. Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen leiten sich von Cumarinen oder Benzocumarinen
ab.
Die Erfindung schließt von Benzocumarin abgeleitete Pigmente

Verbindungen der Formeln XI und XII v/erden bevorzugt,bei
denen X1, X5, Y1 und Y2 für Wasserstoff, Chlor, Methyl oder
Methoxy stehen.
Die am meisten bevorzugten Verbindungen der Erfindung sind diejenigen Verbindungen der Formel XI, bei denen X1, Xc >
Y1 und Yp für Wasserstoff, Chlor, Methyl oder Methoxy stehen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen variieren in ihrer Farbe im Farbtonbereich von Grünlichgelb bis Rötlichgelb. Wenn
z.B. bei den Verbindungen der Formel XI X1 und X,- und Y1
und Yp' für Wasserstoff stehen, dann hat die Verbindung einen
glänzenden, mittleren gelben Farbton. Wenn jedoch X1 oder
X2 für Halogen oder Nitro stehen und Y1 oder Y2 für
Alkyl oder Alkoxy stehen, dann hat die Verbindung einen rötlichen Farbton. Durch Variierung der verschiedenen Substituenten
am Skelett der Verbindung können daher zahlreiche Schattierungen von gelben bis orangen Pigmenten erhalten
werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen haben eine sehr niedrige Löslichkeit in organischen Lösungsmitteln, und sie haben
eine ausgezeichnete Durchschlagfestigkeit bzw. Auslauffestigkeit in typischen Alkyd- oder Lackanstrichen, bestimmt
durch einen Überstreifen-Durchschlagatest. Die erfindungsgemäßen
Verbindungen haben weiterhin eine ausgezeichnete Beständigkeit gegenüber einer Wanderung in Kunststoffen,
wie Polyvinylchlorid.
Es ist festgestellt worden, daß im allgemeinen die Verbindungen
der Formeln XI und XlI lichtechter sind, wenn sie in

einer typischen Anstrich- oder Kunststoffdispersion dispergiert
worden sind und einem Fadsometertest unterworfen sind, als die Verbindungen der Formeln VII bis X, wenn die Substituenten
die gleichen sind. Es wurde jedoch auch festgestellt, daß im allgemeinen die Verbindungen der Formeln VII bis X
beim Dispergieren in einer typischen Kunststoffdispersion wärraestabiler sind als diejenigen der Formeln XI und XII,
wenn die Substituenten die gleichen sind.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen können nach verschiedenen
Methoden hergestellt werden. Bei der bevorzugten Herstellungsmethode für die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen geht man so
vor, daß man ein geeignete Kumarin oder Benzokumarincarbonylchlorid
mit einem geeigneten aromatischen Diamin in Gegenwart eines geeigneten Lösungsmittels, wie o-Dichlorbenzol,
einem Gemisch aus Toluol und Triäthylamin oder

Dowthernr 'A (eutektisches Gemisch, bestehend aus 23 > 5 Gevf.%

Biphenyl und 76,5 Gew.% Diphenyloxid), erhitzt.
Bei einer alternativen Herstellungsmethode für die erfindungsgemäßen
Verbindungen geht man so vor, daß nan einen Carbonsäureester eines geeigneten Kumarins oder Benzokumarins
mit einem - .geeigneten aromatischen Diamin in Gegenwart einer
geeigneten Base und eines geeigneten Lösungsmittels erhitzt.
Ein Gemisch aus 50 g 5,6-Benzocumarin-3-carbonylchlorid,
10>5 g p-Phenylendiamin und 1000 ml o-Dichlorbenzol wird
6 h auf 140 bis 1500C erhitzt. Das Produkt wird durch Filtration
des heißen Gemisches isoliert, mit Dimethylformamid gewaschen und sodann mit Methanol gewaschen» Nach dem Trocknen
beträgt die Ausbeute 50 g an N,N'-p-Phenylen-bis-(3-oxo-3H-naphtho[2,1-b)pyran-2-carboxamid)
als gelber, kristalliner Feststoff.

Das Produkt wird durch Filtration des Reaktionsgemisches isoliert und zuerst mit Methanol, dann mit Wasser und hierauf mit heißem Dimethylformamid gewaschen. Die Ausbeute beträgt 9,2 g Ν,Ν1-p-Phenylen-bis-(3-oxo-3H-naphtho [2,1-b ]pyran-2-carboxamid) . Die Infrarot- und Elementar analyse bestätigt, daß das Produkt mit demjenigen identisch ist, das in Beispiel 1 hergestellt wurde.

Produkt wird durch Filtration gesammelt. Es wird gereinigt, indem es mit 1000 ml Dimethylformamid vermischt wird, filtriert
wird, mit Methanol gewaschen wird und getrocknet wird. Die Ausbeute beträgt 42,3 g N,N'-(2-Methoxy-1,4-phenylen)-bis-(3-oxo-3H-naphtho[2,1-b)pyran-2-carboxamid)
als rötlichgelber Feststoff.

als hellgelbes Material.

Wasser und Dimethylformamid gewaschen. Nach dem Trocknen beträgt die Ausbeute 21,5 g (95% der Theorie) N,Nf-p-Phe-"
nylen-bis-(2-oxo-2H-1 -benzopyran-3-carboxamid).
Ähnliche Ergebnisse werden erhalten, wenn z.B. Kaliuniacetat
oder Natriumäthoxid anstelle von Natriumcarbonat· verwendet
wird.
Ein Gemisch aus 12,2 g Salicylaldehyd, 16,0 g Äthylmalonat
und 9,8 g Kaliumacetat in 200 ml Dowtherm A wird 6 h auf 175°C erhitzt. Ein mit einem Dampfmantel versehener Konden-

wird sodann 6 h auf 200+100C wiedererhitzt= Nach dem Abkühlen
auf 1000C wird das ausgefällte Produkt durch Filtration
gesammelt, mit Methanol und Wasser gewaschen und getrocknet.
Die Ausbeute beträgt 15*4 g (6895% der Theorie) N1N1-p-Phenylen-bis-(2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxamid).
Ein Gemisch aus 35 g Cumarin-J-carbonylchlorid, 12 g
2-Chlor-p-phenylendiamin und 1 1 Dowtherm A wird 6 h auf
1000C erhitzt, wobei man ein Vakuum von ungefähr 60 mm Quecksilber
anwendet. Das Produkt wird durch Filtration des heißen Reaktionsgemisches gesammelt. Es wird gründlich mit
Methanol gewaschen und getrocknet. Die Ausbeute beträgt 38,3 g gelbes N,N'-(2'-ChIOr-I»,4'-phenylen)-bis-(2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxamid).

Das Produkt wird durch Vermählen in einer Kugelmühle in
einem thermoplastischen Acryllackanstrich dispergiert. Ein Teil dieses Anstrichs wird mit genügend Titandioxidpigment
verschnitten, daß ein Endverhältnis von Toner zu Weiß von 5/95 erhalten wird. Ein weiterer Teil des Anstrichs wird
mit genügend Aluminiumflocken verschnitten, daß ein Verhältnis von Toner zu Metall von 90/10 erhalten wurde. Die drei
Anstriche werden auf Aluminiumtafeln gesprüht, die mit einem Grundlack beschichtet worden waren«. Die Dauerhaftig-

keit der Anstriche wird bestimmt, indem die Tafeln im Süden
dem Freien ausgesetzt wurden. Nach 6 Monaten war die Dauerhaftigkeit der Anstriche besser als diejenige von An-

strichen, die aus Irgazinvw Gelb 2GLT, einem handelsüblichen
Gelbpigment, erhalten -worden waren, welches im Farbton dem Produkt des Beispiels 46 ähnlich ist. ■
Die Durchschlagfestigkeit des Prodktes dieses Beispiels in dem thermoplastischen Acryllackanstrich wird bestimmt, indem
die Massentonfarbe auf eine mit einem Grundanstrich versehene Aluminiumtafel aufgesprüht wurde und indem sodann
ein weißer Überstreifen-Lackfilm aufgesprüht wurde. Die Tafel
wurde 30 min in einem Ofen bei 1500C gebrannt. Es konnte
keine Wanderung des Gelbpigments in dem weißen Überstreifen festgestellt werden.
Ein Gemisch aus 12,2 g Salicylaldehyd, 16,0 g Äthylmalonat und 5,3 g wasserfreiem Natriumcarbonat in 250 ml Döwtherm A
wird 4 h unter einem mäßigen Vakuum (ungefähr 60 mm) auf 150°C erhitzt. Das Vakuum wird sodann abgestellt, und 7,1 g
2-Chlor-p-phenylendiamin, auf geschlämmt in 50 ml Dowtherm A,
werden in einer Portion zugesetzt. Die Reaktionstemperatur· wird auf 210°C erhöht und 2 h bei diesem Wert gehalten. Das
Reaktionsgemisch wird dann auf 1000C abgekühlt und filtriert.
Das Produkt wird mit Methanol und Wasser gewaschen. Nach dem Trocknen beträgt die Ausbeute 19,6 g an grünlich-gelbem
N,N'-(2I-Chlor-1' ,4f-phenylen)-bis-(2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxamid).
Das auf diese Weise hergestellte Material ist die strukturell isomere Form des Produkts.des Beispiels 46. Obgleich
beide Materialien die gleiche chemische Zusammensetzung haben, haben sie unterschiedliche Röntgenspektren.

Das in diesem Beispiel hergestellte Material kann in die zv/eckmäßigere Form des Beispiels 46 nach einer Vielzahl
von Techniken umgewandelt werden, die in der Pigmenttech nologie Standardtechniken sind, z.B. ein Pasten mit Säure
