Castoröl, Palmöl, Maisöl, Baumwollsamenöl und dergl.; Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Benzin, Mineralöl, Heizöl, Trockenöl,
Schnittflüssigkeiten, Wachse, Harze und dergl.; Salze von Fettsäuren, wie Seifen und dergl.; und Alkylen-glycole,

Poly-(buten-l), Poly-(penten-l), Poly-(3-methylbuten-l),
Poly-(4-methylpenten-l), verschiedene Äthylen-Propylen-
und Äthylen-Propylen-Dien-Copolymere und dergl..
Allgemein werden die erfindungsgemäßen Stabilisatoren in Mengen von etwa o.ol - 5$ ( Gewicht) der
stabilisierten Mischung verwendet, obgleicn dies von dem jeweiligen Substrat und der Anwendung abhängt.
Bevorzugt sind etwa o.o5 - 2$, insbes. etwa o.l - 1$.
Zur Zugabe zu den polymeren Substraten können die Stabilisatoren vor oder nach der Polymerisation zugegeben
werden, während der üblichen Verarbeitungsschritte, z. B. durch Heißwalzen, worauf die Mischung extrudiert,
gepreßt, blasgeformt oder dergl. wird, zu Filmen, Pasern Fäden, Hohlkörpern und dergl. . Die Hitze-stabilisierenden
Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungen stabilisieren das Polymer vorteilhaft gegen Zersetzung bei der Verarbeitung

toren können auch in geeigneten lösungsmitteln gelöst und auf die Oberfläche von Filmen, Geweben, Fäden
und dergl. gesprüht werden, um wirksam zu stabilisieren.
Wird das Polymer aus einem flüssigen Monomer hergestellt, wie Styrol, kann der Stabilisator in dem Monomer vor der
Polymerisation oder Härtung dispergiert oder gelöst werden.
Diese Verbindungen können auch in Kombination mit anderen Additiven verwendet werden, wie Antioxidantien,
schwefelhaltige Ester, wie Distearyl-^ -thiodipropionat (DSTI)P), Dilauryl- ^ -thiodipropionat (DLTDP), in einer
Menge von o.ol - 2c/o (Gewicht) des organischen Materials
und dergl., Fließpunkterniedriger, Korrosions- und Rost-Inhibitoren,
Dispergiermittel, Emulgatoren, Antischaummittel, Füllstoffe, wie Glas- oder andere Fasern, Ruß,
Beschleuniger und andere Chemikalien, die zum Gutnmi-Compoundieren
verwendet werden, Weichmacher, Farbstabilisatoren, Di- und Tri-alkyl- und Alkylphenylphosphite,
Hitaestabilisatoren, UV-Stabilisatoren, Antiozonantien, Lacke, Pigmente, Metallchelat-Bildner, Dyesite und dergl..
Oft ergeben Kombinationen wie diese, insbes. mit schwefelhaltigen Estern, Phosphaten und/oder UV-Stabilisatoren
bessere Ergebnisse bei bestimmten Anwendungen, als man aufgrung der Eigenschaften der Einzel-Komponenten
erwarten würde.

(a) 2-Methylol--5- und/oder 6-(2'-hydroxyäthylthio)-norbornan
In einer Stickstoffatmosphäre gibt man zu
einer gerührten Lösung von 12.4 g (o.l Mol) 2-Hydroxy-Diethyl-5-norbornen
in loo ml Dioxan auf einmal 17.2g (o.22 Mol) 2-Mereaptoäthanol. Die Temperatur steigt
von 25 auf 5o° . Die Mischung wird dann 6,3 Stunden auf 7o° erhitzt. Dabei wird eine Lösung von 1.6 g
/, ei. '-Azobisisobutyronitril in 2o ml Dioxan in Anteilen
zugegeben. Nach Stehen über Nacht wird das Dioxan-Lösungsmittel und der Überschuß an 2-Mercaptoäthanol
unter vermindertem Druck abgezogen. Der.Rückstand wird destilliert zu 2-Methylol-5- oder -6—(21-hydroxyäthylthio)-norbornan
als Zwischenprodukt, ein viscoses Öl, Sdp. 14o-142°/o.o5 mm, Ausbeute 15.ο g

(b) 2-(3' ,5'-Di-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxymethyl)-5-und/oder-6-(2"-(3',5'-di-tertbutyl-4'-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan
lo.l g (o.o5 Mol) 2-Methylol-5- und/oder
-6-(2'-hydroxyäthylthio)-norbornan werden in ein Reaktionsgefäß mit Stickstoffeinlaß, Rührer und Dean-Stark
Falle mit obenauf Trockeneiskühler gegeben, loo mg Lithiumhydrid werden zugegeben. Die Mischung wird auf
5o° C 3o Minuten unter Stickstoff erhitzt. Die Mischung wird auf 3o° C abgekühlt. 29.2 g (o.l Mol) Methyl-3,5-äi-;tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamat
werden zugegeben. Die Mischung wird dann auf Ho0 C erhitzt. Die Temperatur wird nach und nach auf 16o C innerhalb von
5,5 Stunden erhöht. Dabei werden 4.ο ml Methanol in der
Fälle aufgefangen, l.o ml Essigsäure werden zugegeben,
nachdem die Mischung abgekühlt ist. Die angesäuerte Mischung wird in Äther gelöst. Die Äther-Lösung wird
in Wasser gewaschen, über wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet und zur Trockne eingedampft zu 37.ο g eines
viscosen Öls. 15.ο g davon werden an 45o g Silicagel
mit Chloroform/Äthyl-acetat (19:1) als Lösungsmittel
zu 6.4 g reinem Diester als viscoses öl chromatographiert. Dies wird von Lösungsmittel befreit durch erhitzen auf
95° C/o.o5 mm 17 Stunden lang (Stabilisator No.l).

Unstabilisiertes Polypropylenpulver (Hercules Profax 65ol) wird sorgfältig mit o.2?£ (Gewicht)
verschiedener erfindungsgemäß er Verbindungen gemischt.
Die Mischung wird in einer 2-Y»'alzen-Mühle bei 182° C
5 Minuten behandelt. Dann wird das stabilisierte Polypropylen in Bahnen entnommen und abkühlen gelassen.
Die Polypropylenbahnen werden in Stücke geschnitten und 5 Minuten in einer hydraulischen Presse
bei 218° C und 19.25 kg/cm2 gepreßt.Die erhaltenen
Plättchen von 0.635 mm Dicke werden auf ihre Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen beschleunigtes Altern in einem
Ofen bei 15o C getestet. Zeigen sie erste Anzeichen von Zersetzung ( z.B. Brüche oder braune Kanten), so
werden sie als zersetzt angesehen. Ergebnisse zeigt die Tabelle 1.

Testproben werden gemäß Beispiel 8 hergestellt, wobei die gewalzten Polypropylenbahnen in
Stücke geschnitten und 3 Minuten in einer hydraulischen Presse bei 281° C und 19.25 kg/cm gepreßt werden.
Die erhaltenen Bahnen von 0.127 mm Dicke werden in einer Fluorescenz Sonnenlicht/Schwarzlicht Umgebung
auf Enstehen von Carbonyl-absorption im IR-Spectrum bei 585 Millmicron Wellenlänge untersucht, als Maß
der Stabilisation durch den Stabilisator in dem Polypropylen. Zersetzung wird angenommen, wenn o.5
Carbonyl-Absorption auftritt. Ein solcher Wert korreliert mit einer Verschlechterung der physikalischen Eigenschaften
des Polypropylens auf nicht akzeptable Werte. Ergebnisse zeigt Tabelle 4.

Plätzchen ( 5oo g) unstabilisiertes Hylon-6,6
(Zytel lol, DuPont) werden in einen Mischer gegeben.
Unter Mischen wird eine Lösung von o.5$ (bezogen
auf das Gewicht Nylon) 2-(3',5'-Di-tert-butyl-41-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxymethyl)-5-
oder -6-(2"-(3',5'-di-tertbutyl-4'-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan
in 2o ml Methylen-chlorid langsam zugegeben. Natriumhypophosphit
(o.5 g, o.l$) gelöst in 2o ml Wasser wird
langsam unter Mischen zugegeben, nachdem die Antioxidants-Lösung
zugegeben ist und das meiste Methylen-chlorid verdampft ist. Die stabilisierten Plätzchen werden bei
8o° C 1mm Hg 4 Stunden getrocknet.
Die Polyamid-Formulierung wird extrudiert bei 315.6 C durch eine 0.635 cm Düse zu einem Stab.
Dieser wird mit V/asser gekühlt und in Plättchen geschnitten. Ein 1.9o5 cm Brabender Extruder mit Nylonschraube
wird verwendet. Die Plättchen werden bei 8o° C, 1 mm 4 Stunden getrocknet.
Die getrockneten Plättchen werden zu einem 0.127 mm dicken Film bei 29o C 4 Minuten bei 57.75 kg/cm
druckgepreßt. Die Filme werden bei 15o C in einem Ofen gealtert. Proben werden periodisch entnommen. Die specifische
Viscosität der Proben wird mittels 1% Ameiseneäurelösung
bei 25°C bestimmt. Wie oben stabilisierte

Proben benötigen viel langer bis ihre Viscosität auf die Hälfte abgesunken ist, als unstabilisierte.
Unstabilisiertes high-impact-Polystyrolharz
wird trocken mito.ol/& (Gewicht des Harzes) 2-(3!-Methyl-5'-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxycinnamoyloxymethyl)-5-
oder -6-(2"-(3'-methyl-5'-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxycinnamoyloxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan
gemischt. Dann wird extrusionscompoundiert in einem 2.54 cm 24/l=L/D Extruder mit
Schmelztemperatur 26o° G und 7 Minuten bei 1630C und 14o kg/cm in Bahnen einheitlicher Dicke von 0.752 mm
gepreßt. Die Bahnen werden in Plättchen von 5.o8 cm χ 5.o8 cm χ 0.752 mm geschnitten. Die Plättchen werden
bei 8o°C ofengealtert. Periodisch werden mit einem Hunt er Color Difference Meter Model D 25 Farbmessungen
durchgeführt. Polystyrolproben, stabilisiert wie oben, zeigen unerwünschtes Vergilben viel später als unstabilisierte
Proben.
Unstabilisiertes lineares Polyäthylen (HiFax 44ol) wird in Methylen-chlorid mit o.o2$ (Gewicht des
Substrats) 2,2-Di-(3',5'-di-tert-butyl-4f-hydroxyhydro-

cinnamoyloxymethyl)-5~ oder -6-( 2"-(3 ' t5 ' -di-tert-tiutyl-4l-hydroxyhydrocinnainoyloxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan
Lösungsmittel-gemischt, dann Vakuum-getrocknet. Das Harz wird dann bei 287.80C mit einem 1.9o5 cm Extruder
mit 24:1 I>/D Verhältnis extrudiert. Die Schmelzflußgeschwindigkeit
der Probe wird nach jeder Extrusion gemäß ASTK Test D-1238 bestimmt. Polyäthylen, stabilisiert
gemäß oben, erleidet weniger Veränderung der Schmelzflußgeschwindigkeit als unstabilisiertes Polyäthylen.

- 10. Verbindung nach Anspruch 1,2-(3',5' -Di-tert-butyl-41-hydroxyphenylacetoxymethyl)-5- und/oder -6-(2"-(3',5'-di-tert-butyl-41-hydroxypheny1-acetoxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan.
- 11. Verbindung nach Anspruch 1, 2-(2-2i3'-Oimethyl-5l-tert-butyl-41-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyl-509849/1043oxyrhethyl)-5- und/oder -6-(2"-( 2" ,3' -dimethyl-51 -tert-■butyl-4l-hydroxyliydrocinnamoyloxy)-äthylthio)-nor'bornan.
- 12. Mischung, stabilisiert gegen oxidative Zersetzung, enthaltend ein organisches Material, das normalerweise thermischer, oxidativer oder UV-Licht Zersetzung unterliegt, und(a) o. öl - 55° (Gewicht) eines Stabilisators der Formel I nach Anspruch 1, und(b) ο - 2ia (Gewicht) eines Schwefel-haltigen Ester-Co-Stabilisators, und(c) o-5% (Gewicht) eines UV-Licht-Stabilisators.
- 13. Mischung nach Anspruch 12, worin das organische Material ein Polyolefin ist. ■
- 14. Mischung nach Anspruch 13, worin das Polyolefin Polypropylen ist.
- 15. Mischung nach Anspruch 12, worin der Stabilisator 2-(3',5l-Di-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxymethyl)-5- und/oder -6-(2"-(3',5'-di-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxyhydrocinnamoyloxy)-äthylthio)-norbornan ist.509849/ 1043
