Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von Tetramethylphosphoniumchlorid oder
-bromid.
Das gebräuchlichste Verfahren zur Herstellung quartärer Phosphoniumhalogenide ist die Umsetzung
von tertiären Phosphinen mit Kohlenwasserstoffhalogeniden gemäß
R3P + RX = [R1P] X
(R: Kohlenwasserstoff; X: Halogen).
So ist in ätherischer Verdünnung aus Trimethylphosphin
und Methyljodid das Tetramethylphosphoniumjodid erhältlich fJ.Che.Soc. (London), 1929, Seite 2342,
und 1933, Seite 989).
Eine weitere Methode besteht in der Anlagerung von tertiären Phosphinen an Verbindungen mit einer
aktivierten Doppelbindung bei Anwesenheit von Mineralsäuren entsprechend
-[R3P-CH2-CH2-CN]Br ^
(Chem. Berichte 94, (1961), Seite 1331 und DE-AS 10 45 401).
Den beiden Verfahren haftet jedoch der Nachteil an, daß für ihre Durchführung als Ausgangsstoffe die
tertiären Phosphine erforderlich sind, deren Herstellung sehr aufwendig ist Ferner ist bekannt, daß durch
Einwirkung von Alkylhalogenid auf weißen Phosphor im Bombenrohr bei 260" C Phosphoniumhalogenide
entstehen (DE-AS 12 94 376).
Von Nachteil ist bei diesem Verfahren die Notwen- so digkeit, unter Druck arbeiten zu müssen. Schließlich ist
noch erwähnenswert, daß durch Reaktion zwischen völlig metallteilen primären bzw. sekundären Phosphinen
oder völlig metalliertem Phosphin und Alkylenhalogeniden die entsprechenden quartären Phcsphoniumhalogenide
entstehen (Chem. Berichte 92, (1959), Seiten 1118 und 2088).

Jedoch müssen bei diesem Verfahren in einem sehr aufwendigen vorgeschalteten Prozeß in flüssigem
Ammoniak mit schwierig zu handhabendem Alkalimetall zunächst die Alkaliphosphide hergestellt werden.
Die direkte Alkylierung von freiem Phosphin bzw. freiten primären und sekundären Alkylphosphinen
wurde, bislang _in der Literatur als nicht möglich
angesehen (HqubenrWeyl »Methoden der Organischen Chemie«, Band XIl/i(i963XSe:ite:97). :
Überraschenderweise wurde nun gefunden, daß im
Gegensatz zu dieser bisherigen Ansicht, PH3 mit
Methylchlorid oder -bromid zu den entsprechenden Tetramethylphosphoniumhalogehiden reagiert, wenn
man den Phosphorwasserstoff und Methylchlorid oder -bromid im Moiverhältnis von 0,02 bis 10, vorzugsweise
in einem Molverhältnis von 0,05 bis 2, bei Temperaturen
zwischen 100 und 5000C, bevorzugt zwischen 150 und
3500C, und bei einem Druck bis 9,8 bar, bevorzugt bei
Normaldruck, über einen Katalysator aus Aktivkohle oder feinverteilten Metallen der ersten oder achten
Nebengruppe des Periodischen Systems der Elemente so leitet daß dabei Verweilzeiten von 200 bis
210 Sekunden eingehalten werden und die entstandenen Tetramethylphosphoniumhälogenide aus den Reaktionsgasen
abtrennt
Die Umsetzung kann sowohl in einem Festbett- als auch in einem Fließbett-Reaktor durchgeführt werden.
Als Katalysator eignet sich vorzugsweise Aktivkohle mit einer BET-Oberfläche von mehr als 10m2/g.
Arbeitet man in einem Festbettreaktor, so sollte die Aktivkohle mit einer Korngröße von 0,1 bis 10 mm
eingesetzt werden. Arbeitet man dagegen in einem Fließbettreaktor, so verwendet man zweckmäßigerweise
feingemahlene Aktivkohle. Ferner können, wie schon erwähnt als Katalysatoren auch feinverteilte Metalle
der ersten oder achten Nebengruppe des Periodischen Systems der Elemente, beispielsweise Gold, Platin oder
Palladium, einzeln oder im Gemisch miteinander eingesetzt werden. Diese Metalle können auch auf
Trägern aufgetragen sein, die sich unter den Reaktionsbedingungen inert verhalten, wie AI2O3 oder SiO2.
Es ist selbstverständlich, daß die den Reaktor passierenden nicht umgesetzten Ausgangsstoffe nach
Abtrennung von den Tetramethylphosphoniumhalogeniden in den Prozeß zurückgeführt werden können.
Nach Sättigung des Katalysators mit dem Phosphoniumhalogenid kann die Reaktion unterbrochen und in
bekannter Weise, beispielsweise mit Wasser oder Alkohol oder einem anderen geeigneten Lösungsmittel,
das Tetramethylphosphoniumhalogenid von dem Katalysator heruntergelöst und, gegebenenfalls nach Abdampfen
des Lösungsmittels, das Phosphoniumhalogenid aus der erhaltenen Lösung isoliert werden. Der so
reaktivierte Katalysator kann nach Austreiben des Lösungsmittels, ohne aus dem Reaktor entfernt werden
zu müssen, erneut eingesetzt werde«.
Die Erfindung ermöglicht im technischen Maßstab die Herstellung von Tetramethylphosphoniumchlorid oder
-bromid aus dem leicht zugänglichen Methylchlorid oder -bromid und Phosphorwasserstoff, der beispielsweise
bei der Herstellung von Natriumhypophosphit in technischen Mengen als Nebenprodukt anfällt. Die
erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Telramethylphosphoniumhalogenide sind wichtige Zwischenprodukte auf den
Gebieten des Flammschutzes, der Extraktionsmittel u. ä.
Zur Darstellung von Tetramethylphosphoniumchlorid [(CHj)4P] Cl wurden 201 PHj/h und 1001 CH3Cl/h in
einem Vorerhitzer gemischt und auf 2000C vorgeheizt.
Sodann wurde das Gemisch bei Normaldruck mit einer Verweilzeit von 210 see bei 2800C durch einen mit
Aktivkohle gefüllten Reaktor geleitet. Entsprechend der in den Reaktor eingefüllten Menge Aktivkohle wurde
nach 85 Stünden die Zufuhr des PHj/CHsCl-Gemisches
beendet Es wurde weiterhin bei 28Ö°C 2 Stunden N2
durch den Reaktor geleitet Danach wurde das über 4000C schmelzende Tetramethyiphbsphqniumchlond
mit 900C heißem Wasser von der Akuvkphle heruntergewaschen.
Die wäßrige Lösung wurde zur Trockne eingedampft und das Tetramethylphosphonhimchlorid
durch Aufnehmen mit Äthanol und Ausfällen mit
Diathyläther gereinigt Es wurden aus 2605 gPH3 8052 g
[(CH3J4P] Cl, entsprechend einer Ausbeute von 83%,
erhalten. Ah Nebenprodukten fielen 285 g gelber Phosphor sowie ein Gemisch aus CH5PH2, (CH3J2PH
und (CH3J3P an. Diese letzteren können nach entsprechender Trennung und Aufarbeitung beispielsweise als
wertvoUe Vorprodukte für den Flammschutz verwandt werden.
Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verfahren zur Herstellung von Tetramethylphosphoniumchlorid oder -bromid, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Phosphorwasserstoff und Methylchlorid oder -bromid im Molverhältnis von 0,02 bis 10 bei Temperaturen zwischen 100 und 500° C sowie bei einem Druck bis 9,8 bar über einen Katalysator aus Aktivkohle oder feinverteilten Metallen der ersten oder achten Nebengruppe des to Periodischen Systems der Elemente so leitet, daß dabei Verweüzeiten von 200 bis 210 Sekunden eingehalten werden und man die entstandenen Tetramethylphosphoniumhalogenide aus den Reaktionsgasen abtrennt is
