Thermoplastische Copolyester und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft thermoplastische hochkristalline, lineare Copolyester, die eine höhere Schmelztemperatur
und größere Kristallinitat als die entsprechenden
Homopolyester selbst aufweisen.
Me spritzgießfähigen Polyalkylenterephthalate haben auf Grund ihrer vorteilhaften Eigenschaften, wie hohe Verschleißfestigkeit,
günstiges Zeitstandverhalten und hohe Maßhaltigkeit breiten Eingang in die thermoplastenverarbeitende
Industrie gefunden. Polyäthylenterephthalat (PÄT) hat vor .allem als Faser- und Folienrohstoff große Bedeutung
erlangt, während Polypropylenterephthalat (PPT) und Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT) hauptsächlich als Konstruktionswerkstoffe dienen. Für diesen Zweck werden sie wegen ihrer
vergleichsweise höheren Kristallisationsgeschwindigkeit der
daraus resultierenden Möglichkeit der Herabsetzung der Werkzeugtemperaturen und einer Verkürzung der Formzeiten dem
PÄT vorgezogen; außerdem trägt die hohe Kristallinität wesentlich zur bekanntlich hohen Wärmeformbeständigkeit
von PPT und PBT bei.
Zwecks Erhöhung des Molekulargewichts werden in der Le A 15 831 - 1 -

Polyalkylenterephthalat-Technologie vornehmlich zwei Maßnahmen, nämlich das Kettenverlängerungsverfahren oder
die Festphasennachkondensation angewandt. Beide Verfahren
ermöglichen die Herstellung von hochmolekularen und damit hochviskosen Polykondensaten. Da bekanntlich das Molekulargewicht
die Langzeiteigenschaften eines Polykondensate maßgeblich mitbeeinflußt, erschien es wünschenswert, unter
Vermeidung neu entstehender Nachteile das Molekulargewicht über das bislang mögliche Maß weiter zu erhöhen. Als Maß für
die Höhe des Molekulargewichts sei im folgenden die Intrinsic-Viskosität, gemessen in Phenol/Tetrachloräthan 1:1 bei 2500C.
Unerwartet wurde nun gefunden, daß das Molekulargewicht von PPT und PBT durch Copolymerisation bestimmter Mole beträchtlich
angehoben werden kann. Die resultierenden, dem PPT oder PBT chemisch sehr nahestehenden Copolyester weisen eine
höhere Viskosität als PPT bzw. PBT selbst auf, ohne daß eine Störung der Kristallinität oder eine Schmelztemperaturdepression
auftritt; vielmehr kann in zahlreichen Fällen sogar ein Anstieg dieser
Ergebnis erscheint umso überraschender als es allgemein als gesicherte Erfahrung gilt, daß Copolyester geringere Kristallinität
und tiefere Schmelztemperaturen und damit niedrigere Elastizitätsmodul , geringere Zugfestigkeiten und schlechtere
Wärmestandfestigkeiten besitzen als die entsprechenden Homopolyester (vgl. z.B. J.G-. Smith et al., J.Polym.Sci.,
A-1, Vol. 4 (1966), 1851).

Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung sind thermoplastische
hochkristalline, lineare, statistische Copolyester auf der Basis von Dicarbonsäurediolestern, deren Dicarbonsäurekomponente
zu mindestens 90 Mol-% aus Terephthalsäure besteht,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Diolkomponente ihrerseits aus 90 bis 99.5 Mol-fo Propandiol-1.3- oder Butandiol-1.4-resten
und 0.5 "bis 10 MoI-^ Resten eines aliphatischen Diols mit
5 "bis 10 C-Atomen oder eines cycloaliphatischen Diols mit 8 Ms 12 C-Atomen besteht.
Weiterhin ist Gegenstand der Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Copolyester, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß man 1 Mol einer Dicarbonsäurekomponente, die ihrerseits zu mindestens 90 Mol-% aus Terephthalsäure oder
einem esterbildenden Derivat derselben besteht, mit 1,1 - 2,5. Mol einer Diolkomponente, die zu 90 bis 99.5 Mol-% aus Propandiol-1
.3 oder Butandiol-1.4 und zu 0.5 bis 10 Mol-% aus einem aliphatischen
Diol mit 5 bis 10 C-Atomen oder einem cycloaliphatischen Diol mit 8 bis 12 C-Atomen besteht, einem an sich
bekannten Schmelzkondensationsverfahren unterwirft und anschließend
in fester Phase'5 bis 500C unterhalb der Polyester-Schmelztemperatur
unter Inertgas oder im Vakuum auf an sich bekannte Weise weiterkondensiert, bis eine Intrinsic-Viskosität
von— 0.6 dl/g erreicht ist. Es ist zweckmäßig, das Primärkondensat der Pestphasennachkondensation in
einheitlicher Korngröße zu unterwerfen, um eine optimale Polykondensation zu' gewährleisten.

Bekanntlich wird die Polykondensation durch "bekannte Katalysatoren,
wie z.B. Titantetraalkylate, "beschleunigt.
Auch die Nachkondensation erfolgt zweckmäßig unter Zusatz wirksamer Mengen der "bekannten Katalysatoren.
Neben Terephthalsäure oder ihren esterbildenden Derivaten können als Dicarbonsäurekomponenten bis zu 10 Kol-# anderer
gesättigter Dicarbonsäuren, wie z.B. Phthalsäure, Isophthalsäure, Adipinsäure, Sebacinsäure oder die esterbildenden
Derivate dieser Verbindungen, wie Anhydride und Ester Verwendung finden.
Beispiele für aliphatische Diole mit 5 bis 12 C-Atomen oder
cycloaliphatischen Diolen mit 8 bis 12 C-Atomen sind 2-Äthylpropandiol-1.3,
3-Methylpentandiol-1.5 und 2-Äthyl-2-methoxymethyl-propandiol-1.3.
Die erfindungsgeciäßen Copolyester enthalten in den üblichen
Mengen, vorzugsweise 0,001 bis 0,1 Gew.-^, bezogen auf die
Copolyester, bekannter Polymerisationsinhibitoren, die eine vorzeitige, unkontrollierte Gelierung verhindern. Als solche
eignen sich Phenole und Phenolderivate, vorzugsweise sterisch gehinderte Phenole, die in beiden o-Stellungen zur phenolischen
Hydroxygruppe Alkylsubstituenten mit 1-6 Kohlenstoffatomen enthalten, Amine, vorzugsweise sekundäre Arylamine
und ihre Derivate, Chinone, Kupfersalze organischer Säuren, Anlagerungsverbindungen von Cu(I)-halogeniden an
Phosphite, wie z.B. 4.4'-Bis-(2.6-di-tert.-butylphenol), 1,3,5-Trimethyl-2,4,6-tris-(3,5-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzol,
4,4'-Butyliden-bis-(6-tert.-butyl-m-kresol), 3,5-Di-tert.-butyl-4-hyd:i?oxy-benzyl-phosphonsäurediäthylester,
N^'-Bis-Cß-naphthylJ-p-phenylendiamin, N,F'"-Bis-(1-methylheptyl)-p-phenylendiamin,
Phenyl-ß-naphthylamin, 4,4'-Bis-
^,c^-dimethylbenzyD-diphenyl-amin,. 1,3,5-Tris-( 3,5-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxy-hydrocinnamoyl)-hexahydro-s-triazin,
Hydrochinon, p-Benzochinon, Toluhydrochinon, p-tert.-Butyl-

"brenzcatechin, Chloranil, Naphthochinon, Kupfernaphthenat,
Kupferoctoat, Gu(I)Gl/Triphenylphosphit, Cu(I)Cl/Trimethylphosphit,
CuilJCl/Trischloräthylphosphit, Cu(l)Gl/Tripropylphosphit,
p-Nitrosodimethylanilin.
Weiterhin können den erfindungsgemäßen Copolyestern bis
300 Gew.-5b, vorzugsweise 50 bis 200 Gew.-^ Füllstoffe zugesetzt
werden. Als solche sind anorganische Materialien, wie Calciumcarbonat, Silicate, Tonerden, Kalk, Kohle, Asbest,
Glas, Metalle, vornehmlich in Form von Fasern, Geweben oder Matten, und organische Füllmittel, wie Baumwolle, Sisal,
Jute, Polyester, Polyamid ebenfalls in Form von Fasern oder Geweben geeignet. Bevorzugtes Verstärkungsmittel sind
Glasfasern.
Außerdem können natürlich, falls erwünscht, anorganische oder organische Pigmente, Farbstoffe, Gleit- und Trennmittel
wie Zinkstearat, UV-Absorber usw. in üblichen Mengen zugeschlagen werden.
Werden flammwidrige Produkte gewünscht, können 2 bis 20 Gew.-bezogen
auf. die Formmasse., an sich bekannter Flammschutzmittel, wie z.B. Tetrabromphthalsäureanhydrid, Hexabromcyclododecan,
Tetrachlor- und Tetrabrombisphenol A, Tris(nonylphenyl)phosphit,
Bis-polyoxyäthylen-hydroxymethylphosphonat,
Tris-(2.3-dichlorpropyl)-phosphat, allein oder in Kombination
mit Antimontrioxid zugesetzt werden.
Weiterhin können Verarbeitungshilfsmittel, wie Nukleierungamittel
und Entformungshilfen, in wirksamer Menge verwendet
werden. Als besonders geeignet erwiesen sich Zusätze von 0.1. 1 Gew.-$ Talk als Uukleiermittel und/oder von 0,1-3 Gew.-^
eines Natriummontanats als Entformungshilfe.

Beispiele 1-6
97,1 g (0,5 Mol) Dimethylterephthalat werden mit 0,7 Mol eines Gemisches aus Butandiol-(1,4) und 3-Methylpentandiol-(1,5)
in Gegenwart von 0,05 g Titantetraisopropylat 2 Std. bei 200 G umgeestert. Wach Beendigung der Umesterung wird
die Temperatur des Umesterungsproduktes innerhalb von 1 Std. auf 260 C angehoben, wobei gleichzeitig der Druck
im Reaktionsgefäß von 760 Torr auf 0,5 Torr gesenkt wird. Nach Erreichen der Temperatur von 2600C und des Druckes
von 0,5 Torr führt man die Polykondensation noch 45 Min. weiter, wobei man eine klare viskose Schmelze des Copolyesters
erhält. Dieser Copolyester wird nach dem Erkalten auf eine Korngröße von durchschnittlich 2 mm zerkleinert
und anschließend 20 Std. im Vakuum bei 2000C weiterkondensiert,
Beispiele 1-3 beschreiben die erfindungsgemäßen Copolyester
mit 1-10 Μο1-# 3-Methylpentandiol-(i, 5).
Zum Vergleich mit reinem Polybutylenterephthalat dient Beispiel 6.
Beispiele 4 und 5 geben den Abfall der Eigenschaften der Copolyester wieder, wenn der Anteil an 3-Methylpentandiol-(1,5)
über 10 Mol-$ erhöht wird.

38,84 g (0,2 Mol) Dimethylterephthalat werden mit einem Gemisch aus 24,4 g (0,721 Mol) Butandiol-(1.4) und 0,90 g
(0,00864 Mol) 2-Äthyl-propandiol-(1.3) in Gegenwart von 0,02 g Titantetraisopropylat 2 Std. bei 2000C eingeestert. Anschliessend
wird innerhalb von 1 Std, die Temperatur auf 2600C angehoben, während gleichzeitig der Druck auf 0,5 Torr gesenkt
wird. Nach weiteren 45 Min. wird die Polykondensation beendet.
Beim Abkühlen erstarrt die zähe Schmelze des gebildeten Copolyesters zu einer weissen, kristallinen Masse. Nach Zerkleinerung
auf eine Korngrösse von ca. 2 mm wird der erhaltene Copolyester 20 Std. bei 2000C im Vakuum weiterkondensiert.
Eigenschaften siehe Tabelle 2.
Das comonomere Diol 2-Äthylpropandiol-(1.3) im Beispiel 7 wird
ersetzt durch 1,32 g (0,00891 Mol) 2-Äthyl-2-methoxymethylpropandiol-(1.3).

Claims (1)
- Patentansprüche:Thermoplastische hochkristalline, lineare, statistische Copolyester auf der Basis von Dicarbonsäurediolestern, deren Dicarbonsäurekomponente zu mindestens 90 Mol.-% aus Terephthalsäure besteht, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Diolkomponente ihrerseits aus 90 bis 99.5 Mo1-$ Propandiol-1.3- oder Butandiol-1.4-resten und 0.5 bis 10 Mol-$ Resten eines aliphatischen Diols mit 5 bis 10 C-Atomen oder eines cycloaliphatischen Diols mit 8 bis 12 C-Atomen besteht."Verfahren zur Herstellung der Copolyester nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man 1 Mol einer Dicarbonsäurekomponente, die ihrerseits zu mindestens 90 Mo1-$ aus Terephthalsäure oder einem esterbildenden Derivat derselben besteht, mit 1*1 - 2.5 Mol einer Diolkomponente, die zu 90 bis 99.5 Mol-% aus Propandiol-1.3 oder Butandiol-1.4 und zu 0.5 bis 10 Mo1-$ aus einem aliphatischen Diol mit 5 bis 10 C-Atomen oder einem cycloaliphatischen Diol mit 8 bis 12 C-Atomen besteht, einem an sich bekannten Schmelzkondensationsverfahren unterwirft und anschließend in fester Phase 5 bis 50 C unterhalb der Polyester-Schmelztemperatur unter Inertgas oder Vakuum in an sich bekannter Weise weiterkondensiert, bis eine Intrinsic-Viskosität von"^> 0.6 dl/g erreicht ist.Le A 15 831 - 10 -509883/0818
