Dadurch ist die zur Seitenflanke des Gleises zu verlagernde Schottermenge entsprechend größer. Die Dimensionierung der Räumketten bezüglich der Gleisquerrichtung ist eingeschränkt. Einerseits muss ein Arbeitslichtraumprofil berücksichtigt werden und andererseits befinden sich in diesem Bereich auch die während des Umbaues ausgespreizten Schienen. Die Folgen wären Schotterstau und instabile Schotteranhäufungen, welche im Zuge der Arbeitsvorfahrt unkontrolliert in den zuvor geräumten Bereich zurückfallen können.
