Diese Erfindung betrifft Pluor-enthaltende Organo-Phosphorverbindungen
und im besonderen schafft sie neue und ,vert-■
volle .Fluor-enthaltende Ester bestimmter Phosphinate und
Verfahren zur Herstellung derselben. Die Erfindung schafft
ebenso verbesserte funktioneile Flüssigkeiten, welche die neuen Verbindungen enthalten.
Die Arbeitsweise hydrauliacher Einrichtungen erfordert im allgemeinen eine Kombination von Eigenschaften, welche die
meisten Flüssigkeiten nicht besitzen. Dies trifft in besonderer
V/eise zu, wenn das hydraulische System zur Verwendung

in sehr unterschiedlichen Umgebungen vorgesehen ist. Die
hydraulische Flüssigkeit muss oftmals über //exten Temperaturbereichen
flüssig bleiben, das heisst bei Temperaturen, welche so nieder wie, sagen wir, -4O0C und do hoch wie 204°C
sein können. Bei manchen Anwendungen ist die Feuerwiderstandsfähigkeit
der Flüssigkeit von grosser Bedeutung; und natürlich sollte sich die Flüssigkeit bei Arbeitstemperaturen
nicht selbst entzünden. Bei vielen Anwendungen ist es von Bedeutung, dass die hydraulische Flüssigkeit der
Einwirkung von Wasser und/oder Sauerstoff widersteht und
dass sie gegenüber den mechanischen Bestandteilen, mit welchen sie in Kontakt kommen kann, nicht-korrosiv wirkt.
Die vielen strengen Erfordernisse hatten die Schaffung
zahlreicher SpezialZubereitungen zum Ergebnis, wobei etwa wie bei der Schmiermittel- und Motorkraftstofftechnik, Additive
verschiedener Arten der BasΪ3flüssigkeit zugemischfc
werden, um derselben eine oder mehr Eigenschaften zu verleihen, in welcher der Grundansatz unzureichend ist. Jedoch
können Eigenschaften, wie thermische Stabilität und Widerstandsfähigkeit gegenüber Hydrolyse, im allgemeinen
einer Flüssigkeit durch Verwendung eines Additivs nietit
verliehen v/erden; und obgleich feuerhemmende Additive für
Flüssigkeiten bekannt sind, sind oftmals solche Additive
von nur geringem Wert.

niedere Fließpunkte aufweisen, feuerhemmend sind und der Hydrolyse widerstehen« Die vorliegende Erfindung schafft
daher eine funktioneile Flüssigkeit, welche im wesentlichen umfasst eine Verbindung der formel

worin κ und R jedes ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, bestehend
aus Alkyl von 1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen und Aryl
ρ und Aralkyl vin 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, R Aryl ist
von 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, Y ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Fluor- und Perfluoralkyl von 1 bis
Kohlenstoffatomen und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 2 ist.
Die Fluor-enthaltenden Phosphinsäure-ester werden hergestellt
durch In-Kontakt-bringen eines geeigneten Phosphinhalogenids nit einem geeigneten Flucr-substituierten Phenol
bei Umgebungstemperatur oder unter Erhitzen. In manchen
Fällen wird die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit durch Erhitzen beschleunigt. Die Reaktion kann leicht exotherm sein, 30
dass für eine milde Reaktion ,iusaeres Kühlen wünschenswert
sein kann. Im ungemeinen sind, abhängig von der Natur der

einzelnen Reaktionspartner, Temperaturen von, sagen wir, 0 bis 15O0C und vorzugsweise von ungefähr 15 bis 1250C
brauchbar.
Die Reaktion kann oder sie kann auch nicht in Gegenwart eines inerten, organischen, flüssigen Verdünnungs- oder
!Lösungsmittels durchgeführt werden, zum Beispiel einem halogenierten Alkan wie Chloroform, Tetrachlorkohlenstoff
oder Äthylen-chlorid; einem Äther wie Äthyl-äther, Dioxan,
Diäthylen-glykol-dimethyl-äther, einem Amid wie Dimethylformamid
oder Dimethylacetamid.
Ein Katalysator kann, muss aber nicht verwendet werden. Arbeiten in Gegenwart eines basischen Mittels ist empfehlenswert,
weil das letztere ala Abfangmittel für das Nebenprodukt
Halogenwasserstoff dient. Das basische Mittel kann anorganisch oder organisch sein, zum Beispiel kann es ein
tertiäres Alkylamin sein wie Triethylamin oder Tributylamin; eine heterocyclische Stickstoffbase wie N-Methylmorpholin
oder Pyridin, ein Alkali- oder Erdalkalimetall-ozyd oder
das basische Salz desselben wie Natrium, Kalium, Lithium, Calcium oder Magnesium-osyd, Carbonat oder Acetat, usw.
Die gesamten Reaktionsbedingungen, das heisst, ob ein Verdünnungsmittel
und/oder ein basisches Mittel verwendet wird oder nicht und die Natur des Verdünnungsmittels oder des
bezeichneten Mittels, wenn es verwendet wird, Temperatur,
Druck, Reaktionszeit, Anteile der Reaktionspartner usw. können 1 0 S 8 2 2 / U U

können leicht durch einfache Untersuchung erhalten werden. So ist das Erreichen optimaler Reaktionsbedingungen einfach
eine Angelegenheit vom Fachmann geleiteter Routineverfahren. Die Reaktion ist im allgemeinen schnell und
wird gewöhnlich durch Bildung von Halogenwasserstoff aufgezeigt, wenn kein Abfangmittel verwendet wird. Wird ein
organisches Amin als Abfangiiittel verwendet, so wird die
Reaktion häufig durch reichliche Ausfällung von Amin-hydrohalogenid
sichtbar. Um die vollkommene Reaktion in experimentiellen Abläufen sicherzustellen, wird im allgemeinen
empfohlen, dass man nach Sichtbarwerden des Nachlassens der Anfangsreaktion, das Reaktionsgemisch bei Zimmertemperatur
eine Zeitlang stehen lässt, bevor das Produkt aufgearbeitet wird oder dass die Temperatur des Reaktionsgemisches
erhöht wird, nachdem man ausreichend Zeit für eine auftretende exotherme Reaktion verstreichen ließ.
Es wurde bereits ausgeführt, dass die Bildung der vorliegend geschaffenen fluor-enthaltenden Phosphinate durch Kondensation
von einem Mol Dialkyl-phosphlnischem Chlorid oder Bromid mit einem Mol geeignetem Phenol stattfindet.
Es werden daher die Reaktionspartner in vorteilhafter Weise in solchen atöchiometrischen Anteilen verwendet. Jedoch
kann ein Überschuss Phenol verwendet werden und solch ein Überschuss ist empfehlenswert, wenn es erwünscht ist die
vollkommene Reaktion dea schwieriger erhältlichen Dihydrocarbyl-phosphinisohen

zustellen. Ein überschüssiger Reaktionspartner kann leicht
aus dem Endreaktionsgemisch, beispielsweise durch Destillation, wiedergewonnen werden. Wenn ein basisches Abfangmittel
verwendet wird, wird das Phosphinatprodukt in geeigneter Weise abgetrennt aus dem Reaktionsgemisch, zunächst
durch Entfernen des Hydrohalogenid-Nebenproduktes,
zum Beispiel durch Wasserwaschen, und dann durch fraktionierte Destillation der rückständigen organischen Phase,
zur Entfernung eines nicht-umgesetzten Reaktionspartners,
einer organischen Base, eines Verdünnungsmittels usw., welche vorhanden sein können. Wird in Abwesenheit einer Base
gearbeitet, ist es vorteilhaft die mechanische Entfernung des Nebenprodukt-Halogenwasserstoffes sicherzustellen,
zum Beispiel durch kräftiges Rühren des Reaktionsgemisches, Dephlegmation, usw.
Die Verbindungen der vorliegenden Erfindung sind stabile, gut gekennzeichnete, normalerweise flüssige Materialien.
Sie sind von besonderem Interesse zur Verwendung bei funktionellen Flüssigkeiten, weil sie im allgemeinen über weite
Temperaturbereiche fliessende Medien sind, bei Temperaturen flüssig bleiben, welche wesentlich höher als 4000I1 sind,
hohe Flammpunkte und hohe Zündtemperatüren aufweisen, extrem
widerstandsfähig gegen den Angriff von Feuchtigkeit
und durch gute thermische Stabilität gekennzeichnet sind. Sie sind daher in hervorragender Weise zur Verwendung aly
hydraulische Pluida geeignet, besonders in hydraulischen

und lasseraussetzen unterworfen sind. Die vorliegenden Verbindungen besitzen gute Viskosität/Temperatur-Verhältnisse

Gesamtzahl der Kohlenstoffatome bei Abwesenheit des bezeichneten

und dibutylphosphinischem Chlorid oder Bromid oder 2-(4,4,5,5,6,6,6-Heptafluorhexyl)-3,4,5-(trimethyl)-phenyldipentylphosphinat,
welches erhalten wird durch Reaktion von 2-(4,4-,5,5,6,6,6-Heptafluorhexyl)-3,4,5-(trimethyl)-phenol
mit dipentylphosphinischem Chlorid oder Bromid, oder 3-Cyclohexyl~4-(5,5,5-trifluorpentyl)-phenyl-dimethylphosphinat,
welches erhalten wird durch Reaktion von 3-Cyclohexyl-4-(5»5,5-trifluorpentyl)-phenol
mit dimethylphosphinischem Bromid oder Chlorid.
Die Erfindung wird weiter, ohne Einschränkung des Erfindungsbereiches,
durch die nachfolgenden Beispiele erläutert.
Zu einer lösung von 65,5 g (0,33 Mol) Dibutyl-phosphinischem
Chlorid in 150 g (1,9 Mol) Pyridin werden in zwei Anteilen
61,6 g (0,38 Mol) m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenol zugegeben.
Es beginnt sofort eine Ausfällung und die exotherme Reaktion erhöht die Qönperatur auf ca. 65°C Nach ί& Stunden
Stehenlassen bei Zimmertemperatur wurde das Reaktionsgemisch
in Eis-Salzsäure gegossen und dann mit Chloroform extrahiert.
Die organische Schicht wurde nacheinander mit verdünnter Salzsäure, Wasser, 5$igem wässrigem Natrium-hydroxyd
und schliesslich mit Wasser zur Neutralität gewaschen. Sie
wurde dann durch azeotrope Destillation getrocknet und das

Lösungsmittel abgestreift. Fraktionieren des Rückstandes durch eine 15" Vigreux Kolonne ergab 80,0 g (75,5$ Ausbeute)
von im wesentlichen reinem m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenyl-dibutylphosphinat,

line Lösung von 59,0 g (0,30 Mol) Pentylpropyl-phosphinischem Chlorid in 75 ml Pyridin wurde unter Rühren bei ungefähr
O0C mit 48,6 g (0,3 Mol) m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenol
behandelt. Das Rühren wurde, zunächst unter Kühlen ungefähr 0,5 Stunden und nachfolgend, Übernacht bei Zimmertemperatur,
fortgesetzt. Das Reaktionsgemisch wurde dann mit einem gleichen Volumen Benzol verdünnt über 1 Liter Eis,
welches 100 ml konzentrierte Salzsäure enthielt, gegossen und gelegentlich gerührt bis das Eis geschmolzen war. Die
Benzolschicht wurde mit drei Teilen geeistem Seigern Kaliumhydroxyd,
drei Teilen geeister 5#iger Salzsäure und schließlich mit Eiswasser zur Neutralität gewaschen und getrocknet.
Das Fraktionieren des getrockneten Materials durch eine Todd 42" Vigreux Kolonne ergab 73,4$ theoretische Ausbeute

des Produktes, Siedepunkt 117 Ms 135°C/0,18 Ms 0,23 mm,
η 5 1,4628, hauptsächlich m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenyl-pentylpropylphosphinat.

Die kernmagnetische Resonnanzanalyse für P"^ und I1 ^ zeigte
jeweils einzelne Spitzen bei -58,4 und -16,4 ppm,/beziehungsweise
und bestätigte auf diese Weise die angegebene Struktur.
Zu einer Lösung von 18,7 g (0,095 Mol) dibutylphosphinisehern
Chlorid in 100 ml Pyridin bei ungefähr O0C wurden 25 g
(0,11 Mol) 3,5-bis(Trifluormethyl)-phenol in zwei Teilen
zugegeben. Nach Nachlassen der leicht exothermen Reaktion (auf ca. 350C) wurde das Gemisch auf ungefähr 650C erwärmt
und dann liess man es mehrere Tage bei Zimmertemperatur stehen. Es wurde dann über Eis-Salzsäure gegossen, mit
Salzsäure angesäuert und mit Chloroform extrahiert. Nach Waschen der organischen Phase bis zur Neutralität, Verwenden
von 5$igem wässrigem Natrium-hydroxyd vor der Endwasserwaschung,
Trocknen über Natrium-sulfat, Destillieren
zum Entfernen des Lösungsmittels und Fraktionieren des Rückstandes erhielt man 28,6 g von im wesentlichen reinem.

wasserhellen Flüssigkeit, Siedepunkt 100 bis 1O3°C/O,O3 bis
0,05 mm, n2^ 1,4375 und eine Analyse wie folgt:

Beispiel | ||||
bis(3-Phenylpropyl)-phosphinisches Chlorid wurde wie folgt hergestellt: Zu einer ätherischen Lösung von 3-Phenylpropylmagnesiumchlorid,
hergestellt aus 309 g (2,0 Mol) 3-Phenylpropyl-chlorid und 49 g (2,0 Mol) Magnesium-spänen
in 1000 ml wasserfreiem Äther wurden unter heftigem Bühren und unter Stickstoff 90 g (0,65 Mol) Diäthyl-phosphonat
zugegeben. Die Zugabe erforderte 4,5 Stunden,und die Temperatur wurde während dieser zeit bei 20 bis 3O0C unter
gelegentlicher Eis-Wasserkühlung gehalten. Man liess dann
das Ganze 18 Stunden stehen, und dann wurden tropfenweise 500 ml Wasser zugegeben, während man den Äther schnell destillieren
ließ. Es wurde dann auf pH 2, durch Behandeln mit 180 ml konzentrierter Salzsäure, gebracht. Der Äther
wurde entfernt durch Wärmen des Reaktionsgemisches auf ungefähr 50 C, dann Kühlen und Verwenden einer Wasser-Vakuum-Druckflasche.
Brom (104 g, 0,65 Mol) wurde tropfenweise Über eine 3-Stunden-Zeitdauer zu der gerührten wässrigen '
lösung zugegeben und sie auf ungefähr 100C gehalten. Das
überschüssige Brom wurde durch Zugabe von Natrium-metabisulfit zum Zerfall gebracht. Es erfolgte eine Ausfällung,

und nach Zugabe von 500 ml Äther wurden die Feststoffe abfiltriert
und getrocknet ergaben sie 146 g (74,4$ theoretische
Ausbeute) der im wesentlichen reinen bis(3-Phenylpropyl)-phosphinääure,
Schmelzpunkt 99 bis 1010G. Das P kernmagnetische Resonnanzspektrum zeigte eine einzelne
Spitze bei -55,3 Teilen pro Million gegen 85$ Phosphorsäure,
welche mit der Phosphinsäure-Struktur übereinstimmend ist. Die Umwandlung zu phosphinesehern Chlorid wurde
bewirkt durch Mischen von 142 g (0,47 Mol Phosphinsäure)
mit 500 ml Benzol, dann Abdestillieren von 75 ml Benzol aus dem Gemisch zur Sicherstellung eines v/aseerfreien Systems,
Zugeben von 97 g (0,46 Mol) Phosphor-pentachlorid
in zwei Teilen zu dem gekühlten Rückstand, Unter-Rückfluß nehmen für 3 Stunden und Entfernen des Benzols und Nebenprodukt
Phosphor-oxyehlorids durch Erhitzen auf eine Topftemperatur
von 1500C zur Erhaltung von bis-(3-Phenylpropyl)·
phosphinisehern Chlorid als Rückstand.
Das bis-(3-Phenylpropyl)-phosphinische Chlorid wurde, ohne
Reinigung, zur Herstellung von m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenylbis(3-phenylpropyl)-phosphinat,
verwendet. Wesentlich äquimolare Mengen des bezeichneten Chlorids und m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenol
wurden in Pyridin, nach dem in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Verfahren, umgesetzt, ausgenommen dass in diesem
Falle das dibutylphosphinische Chlorid von Beispiel 1
durch das bis-(3-Phenylpropyl)-phosphinische Chlorid er-

setzt wurde. Auf diese leise wurde im wesentlichen reines m-(Trifluormethyl)-phenyl-bis(3-phenylpropyl)-phosphinat,
eine blassgelbe Flüssigkeit, Siedepunkt 210°C/0,05 mm, η Z 1,5382 erhalten, deren Analyse wie folgt war:

Die kernmagnetische Resonnanzanalyse für P gegen 85$ige
wässrige Phosphorsäure ergab eine einzelne Spitze bei -57,8 Teile pro Million; das bestätigte die Phosphinatstruktur.
Unter Verwendung im wesentlichen gleicher Verfahren wie in den' Beispielen 1 bis 4, werden die nachfolgenden Fluoraryl-dialky1-phos

Unter Verwendung im wesentlichen des gleichen Verfahrens wie in den Beispielen 1 Ms 4 wird p-(2,2,3,3»4,4,4-Heptafluorbutyl)-phenyl-dibutylphosphinat
hergestellt durch umsetzen von dibutylphosphinischem Chlorid mit p-(2,2,3,3,-4,4,4-Heptafluorbutyl)-phenol.
Dieses Fluor-enthaltende Phosphinat hat einen Siedepunkt von 145 bis 149°C/0,4 mm

und einen Brechungsindex, η ^ von 1,4410.
und einen Brechungsindex, η ^ von 1,4410.
Herkömmliche Untersuchungen werden zur Bewertung der hydraulischen
Flüssigkeits-Wirksamkeit der Fluor-enthaltenden Phosphinsäure-ester verwendet, durch Bestimmung solcher
Eigenschaften wie Fließpunkt, kinematische Viskosität, ASTM-Kurve (Viskositätsdaten über einen Temperaturbereich
1000C bis 2000C), Flammpunkt, Brennpunkt, Selbstentzündungstemperatur,
Entflammbarkeit bei 13000F, Dampfdruck und thermische Stabilität (die Zerfallstemperatur wird definiert
als die Temperatur, bei welcher dp/dt ( Verhältnis des Druckanstiegs) infolge des Zerfalls der Probe 0,014 mm
Hg/Sekunde ist. Die nachfolgende Tabelle erläutert die verschiedenen
wünschenswerten Eigenschaften der Verbindungen dieser Erfindung.

Zusätzlich zu den repräsentativen Untersuchungen verleihen
die Verbindungen dieser Erfindung ausgezeichnete Eigenschaften
hinsichtlich hydrolytischer Stabilität und Verträglichkeit mit herkömmlichen funktioneilen Flüssigkeits-Verachweissmaterialien
(wie Buna N Kautschuk).
Aufgrund der ausgezeichneten physikalischen Eigenschaften der vorliegenden Fluor-enthaltenden Phosphinsäure-ester
werden die Phosphinate als Arbeitsflüssigkeiten verwendet. Solche Systeme umfassen einen verdrängbaren Teil und eine
verdrängende Kraft, welche auf dem bezeichneten Teil mittels der bezeichneten Flüssigkeit übertragen wird. In einem
solchen System gibt der Antrieb von einem bewegbaren Teil durch die vorliegend geschaffene Flüssigkeit Gebrauchseigenschaften,
welche wegen der physikalischen Eigenschaften der Flüssigkeit hervorragend sind. Während hydraulische Systeme
wie
solche Elemente al» Pumpen, Ventile, Zylinder und Kolben enthalten werden, hängt die Wirksamkeit des Systems notwendigerweise von der Flüssigkeit ab, weil die Flüssigkeit eine solche sein muss, welche dem Druck widerstehen kann und unter den Verwendungsbedingungen fließfähig bleibt.
solche Elemente al» Pumpen, Ventile, Zylinder und Kolben enthalten werden, hängt die Wirksamkeit des Systems notwendigerweise von der Flüssigkeit ab, weil die Flüssigkeit eine solche sein muss, welche dem Druck widerstehen kann und unter den Verwendungsbedingungen fließfähig bleibt.
Die Arbeitsflüssigkeit der vorliegenden hydraulischen Sy
steme kann ein Gemiaoh von einem oder mehreren Fluor- oder
(Perfluoralkyl)-pheijyl-phoaphinaten sein. In manchen Fällen
wurde gefunden, dass eolohe Verbindungen, welche meta- und/

oder ortho-Substituierung bei dem Phenylkern haben, bessere
Fluidität besitzen als die para-substituierten Verbindungen.
Die vorliegend geschaffenen Fluor- oder Perfluoralkyl-substatuierten
Phosphinate können ebenso mit bekannten hydraulischen Flüssigkeiten gemischt werden, beispielsweise
den Irialkyl-phosphaten oder den Dialkyl-arylphosphonaten
oder den aromatischen Polyäthern, so lange die eigenschaften des sich ergebenden Gemisches die PrüfVorschriften erfüllen,
die für eine hydraulische Flüssigkeit für die vorgesehene Verwendung erforderlich sind. Es ist klar, dass
wenn die vorgesehene Verwendung keine Einschränkung, hinsichtlich
solcher Faktoren wie entweder Nieder- oder Hochtemperaturverhalten vorschreibt oder wenn keine Feuergefahr
besteht, die vorliegenden Verbindungen in irgendeinem Verhältnis vorhanden sein können. Wenn jedoch der eine oder
mehrere dieser Faktoren bedeutend sind, sollte dafür Sorge getragen werden, dass ein unerwünschtes Ausmaas an Verdünnung
vermieden wird. Im allgemeinen sollte wenigstens ein grösserer Bestandteil des Gemisches Fluor- oder Perfluoralkylphenyl-dihydrocarbylphosphinat
sein.
Ebenso können die üblichen Flüssigkeitsadditive, zum Beispiel Korrosionsinhibitoren, Antioxydationsmittel, Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer
usw. den vorliegend geschaffenen Flüssigkeits-Phosphinaten zugegeben werden, obgleich für
die meisten Zwecke gefunden wurde, dass solche Additive v/eggelassen werden können.

Claims (14)
1. Verbindung gekennzeichnet durch die Formel

worin R und R jedes ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, bestehend
aus Alkyl von 1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen und Aryl
ρ und Aralkyl von 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, R Aryl ist
von 6 bis 12 kohlenstoffatomen und Y ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Fluor und einer Verbindung der
Formel
worin a eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 4 und b eine ganze Zahl
von 0 bis 4 und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 2 ist.
2. Verfahren dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es umfasst das In-Kontakt-bringen eines Halogenids der formel

worin R und R ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Alkyl von 1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen und Aryl und Aral
kyl von 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen und X Halogen mit einem
Atomgewicht grosser als 34 ist, ait einem Bkenol der Formel
