Description
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind organische Phosphorverbindungen der allgemeinen Formel

in der R = CHj, m= 1, p = 0 und Ri ist 2,4,6-Tribrom-, 2,4,5-Trichlor- oder Pentachlorphenyl,oder R = CHj, m = 0,
p=l und Ri ist 2,4,5-Trichlorphenyl oder R = CHj, n?= l,p=0und Ri ist
O—P—/O—CH2-CH-O—CH2-CH-0H\

oder R = H,/77= l,p=0und Ri ist2,4,6-Tribromphenyl.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen stellen wirksame Flammschutzmittel für Kunststoffe dar und sind in
dieser Eigenschaft bekannten Flammschutzmitteln überlegen, wie Vergleichsversuche mit dem aus der
US-PS 30 92 651 bekannten Flammschutzmittel Dipropylenglykol-hexol-tetraphosphonat
ergaben. Die Durchführung dieser Versuche erfolgte nach ASTM E 84-61 in etwas abgewandelter Form.
Die Vorrichtung für diesen Test bestand aus einem um 30° von der Horizontalen geneigten Stahlgestell, das
in einem Asbesttunnel angeordnet war. Dieser Tunnel war an seinem oberen Ende mit einer Öffnung zum
Abziehen des Rauchs versehen. Am unteren Ende befanden sich ebenfalls Öffnungen, um einen gleichmäßigen
Luftdurchzug durch den Tunnel zu ermöglichen. Ein etwa 76 χ 10 χ 2,5 cm großes oder 2 etwa
38x5 χ 1,25 cm Stücke aus Polyurethanschaum, dem
erfindungsgemäße Verbindungen bzw. die Vergleichssubstanz zugesetzt waren, wurden an dem Stahlgestell
befestigt und mit einer gleichmäßig brennenden, fischschwanzähnlichen Propangasflamme (Gasstrom
500cm}/Min.) entzündet. Nach 4 Minuten wurde durch
J5 ein Fenster im Tunnel anhand einer Kalibrierung auf
dem Stahlgestell festgestellt, wie weit die Flammen vorangeschritten waren. Die Flammenausbreitung wurde
nach der folgenden Gleichung ermittelt:

Sie zeigen, daß die erfindungsgemäßen Flammschutzmittel der bekannten Verbindung eindeutig überlegen
sind, insbesondere, wenn man die zugesetzten Mengen berücksichtigt, die weit unter denen der Vergleichsverbindung
liegen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen eignen sich aufgrund ihrer freien Hydroxylgruppen vor allem für die
Umsetzung mit Polyisocyanaten zur Herstellung flammfester Polyurethane. Sie lassen sich dadurch herstellen,
daß man in an sich bekannter Weise eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel

in der R die oben angegebene Bedeutung hat, in Gegenwart eines alkalischen Katalysators mit etwa der
stöchiometrisch äquivalenten Menge eines entsprechenden Polyhalogenphenols der allgemeinen Formel
oder von Tetrachlor-isopropyliden-diphenol der Formel

und Methacrylaten, z. B. Methylmcthacrylaten und Äthylacrylaten, Neopren, Naturkautschuk, Butadicn-Styrol-Copolymeren
und Butylkautschuk flammfestc Eigenschaften verleihen. Ein Zusatz von etwa 1%
bewirkt eine hervorragende Stabilisierung von Vinylchloridpolymcren.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen sind ferner als Weichmacher verwendbar.
Die folgenden Beispiele, in denen sich alle Teil- und Prozentangaben auf das Gewicht beziehen, erläutern
ίο die Erfindung.
39Og(I Mol) Phenyl-bis-(dipropylenglyko!)-phosphit
wurden mit 33Og (1 Mol) umkristallisiertem 2,4,6-Tribromphenol und 10 g Natriumphenolat im Vakuum
destilliert. Am Ende der Destillation betrug die Temperatur 130"C und der Druck 3 Torr. Während der
Destillation wurden 92 g Phenol abgezogen. Als Rückstand verblieb 2,4,b-TribromphenyI-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit
in Form einer blaßgelben Flüssigkeit mittlerer Viskosität mit einem Brechungsindex von
η η = 1,5393, einer Säurezahl von 0,88, einer Hydroxylzahl
von 175 (Theorie: 178) und einem Phosphorgehalt von 4,9% (Theorie: 4,9%).

39Og(I Mol) Phenyl-bis-(dipropyienglykol)-phosphit wurden mit 197 g (1 Mol) umkristallisiertem 2,4,6-Trichlorphenol
und 10 g Natriumphenolat im Vakuum destilliert. Am Ende der Destillation betrug die
Temperatur 1300C und der Druck 3 Torr.
Insgesamt wurden 90 g Phenol abdestilliert. Als Rückstand wurde 2,4,6-TrichIorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit
in Form einer Flüssigkeit vom
Jj Brechungsindex π ?' = 1,5200, einer Säurezahl von 0,58,
einer Hydroxylzahl von 230 (Theorie: 228) und einem Phosphorgehalt von 6,2% (Theorie 6,3%) erhalten.
umsetzt und gegebenenfalls das erhaltene 2,4,6-Tribromphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit
zum entsprechenden Phosphat oder das erhaltene 2,4,5-Tri- 4'> chlorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit nach Arb
u ζ ο ν in das entsprechende Phosphonat umwandelt.
Vorteilhaft werden für die Umsetzung des Phosphits mit dem Polyhalogenphenol alkalische Katalysatoren
mit einem pH-Wert von mindestens 11 in 0,1 normaler Lösung verwendet. Bevorzugte Katalysatoren sind
Alkalialkoholate oder -phenolate, z. B. Natriumphenolat,
Natriumcresylat, Natriummethylat, Natriumdecylat, Kaliumphenolat, Natriumpentachlorphenolat, Natrium-2,4,6-trichlorphenolat
und Natriumpentabromphenolat. Bezogen auf die Reaktionspartner wird der Katalysator
zweckmäßig in einer Menge von etwa 0,1 bis 5 Gew.-% verwendet.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Phosphite, Phosphate und Phosphonate stellen im allgemeinen klare, nichtflüchti- wi
ge Flüssigkeiten dar, die unmittelbar als Flammschutzmittel oder als Stabilisatoren für Kunststoffe, insbesondere
Vinylchloridpolymere, verwendet werden können und als hydroxylgruppenhaltige Komponenten oder
Zusatzstoffe für Polyurethane und Polyester geeignet sind und diesen sowie Polyolefinen, z. B. Polyäthylen,
Polypropylen, Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymeren, Vinylpolymeren,
z. B. Polystyrol und Vinylacetat, Acrylaten
390 g (I.Mol) Phenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit wurden mit 197 g umkristallisiertem 2,4,5-Trichlorphenol
und 10 g Natriumphenolat im Vakuum destilliert. Am linde der Destillation betrug die Temperatur 135CC
und der Druck 5 Torr. Es wurden 90 g Phenol abdcstilliert, und als Rückstand verblieb 2,4,5-Trichlorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phospliit
als blaßgelbc Flüssigkeit mittlerer Viskosität mit einem Brechungsindex von η Γ = 1,5140, einer Säurezahl von 0,12, einer
Hydroxylzahl von 226 (Theorie: 228) und einem Phosphorgehalt von 6,3% (Theorie: 6,3%).
Gemäß Beispiel 1 wurde 1 Mol Phenyl-bis-(diäthylenglykol)-phosphit
mit 1 Mol 2,4,6-Tiibromphenol umgesetzt. Man erhielt 2,4,6-Tribromphenyl-bis-(diäthy-Ienglykol)-phosphit;
η "=1,5446; Hydroxylzahl 230 (Theorie: 234); Phosphorgehalt 5,1 % (Theorie: 5,4%).
Gemäß Beispiel 2 wurde 1 Mol Phenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit
mit 1 MoI Pentachlorphenol umgesetzt. Man erhielt Pentachlorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit;
η I4 = 1,5370; Hydroxylzahl 194 (Theorie:
210); Phosphorgehalt 5,8% (Theorie:6%).
1 Mol des nach Beispiel 1 hergestellten 2,4,6-Tribromplienyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphits
wurde mit 1
Mol einer 5O°/oigen wäßrigen Wasserstoffperoxidlösung
vermischt. Nach Beendigung der Umsetzung wurde das Wasser abdestilliert. Als Rückstand erhielt man
2,4,6-Tribromphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphat; η I" = 1,5395; Hydroxylzahl 178 (Theorie: 174); Phosphorgehalt
6,0% (Theorie: 6,1 %).
1 Mol des nach Beispiel 2 erhaltenen 2,4,6-Trichlorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphits
wurde 8 Stunden mit 5 Mol-% n-Butylbromid auf 125 bis 135°C
erhitzt. Nach dem Abdestillieren der flüchtigen Bestandteile bei 1500C und 10 Torr verblieb ein flüssiger
Rückstand, der im wesentlichen aus 2,4,6-TrichIorphenyl-dipropylenglykol-hydroxypropoxypropanphosphonat
und geringen Mengen Trichlorphenyl-dipropylenglykolbutanphosphonat bestand. In gleicher Weise
erhielt man das 2,4,5-Trichlorphenyl-dipropylenglykolhydroxypropoxypropanphosphonat;
η " = 1,5190; Hydroxylzahl 178 (Theorie: 174); Phosphorgehalt 6,1%
(Theorie: 6,3%).
2 Mol Phenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit, 1 Mol Tetrachlor-isopropylidendipheno^Tetrachlorbisphenol-A)
und 10 g Natriumphenolat wurden unter Vakuum erwärmt. Am Ende der Umsetzung betrug die
Temperatur 1300C und der Druck 3 Torr. Insgesamt wurden 182 g Phenol als Destillat abgezogen. Der
flüssige Rückstand bestand aus Tetrakis-(dipropylengly-
kol)-tetrachlor-isopropylidendiphenol-diphosphit;
η ί5 = 1,5673; Hydroxylzahl 230 (Theorie: 234); Phosphorgehalt 6,4% (Theorie: 6,5%).

- Patentansprüche: 1. Phosphorverbindungen der allgemeinen FormelR RHO-CH-CH2-O-CH-CH2-(O)„HO-CH-CH2-O-CH-CH2-OP-OR1in der R = CHi,/J7= 1,p=0 und Ri ist 2,4,6-Tribrom-, chlorphenyl-oder2,4,6-Trichlor-, 2,4,5-Trichlor- oder Pentachlorphe- >o R = CH1, m- l,p= 1 und Ri ist 2,4,6-Tribromphenyl-nyl, oder R = CHj, «7 = 0, p= 1 und Ri ist 2,4,5-Tri- oder R = CHj,/77= l,p = 0und R, istCLCLCLC—/~N—Ο—Ρ—ZO-CH2-C-O-CH2-CH-OH^CH3 ^L1 ( CH3 CH3 joder R = H, m= l,p=O und Ri ist 2,4,6-Tribromphenyl.
- 2. Verfahren zur Herstellung der Verbindungen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man in an sich bekannter Weise eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formelnen FormelHO-CH-CH2-O-CH-CH2-OP-O455055HO-CH-CH2-O-CH-CH2-O R Rin der R die oben angegebene Bedeutung hat, in Gegenwart eines alkalischen Katalysators mit etwa der stöchiometrisch äquivalenten Menge eines entsprechenden Polyhalogenphenols der allgemei- oder von Tetrachlor-isopropyliden-diphenol der FormelCLHOCHCLOHCLCH,CLumsetzt und gegebenenfalls das erhaltene 2,4,6-Tribromphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit zum entsprechenden Phosphat oder das erhaltene 2,4,5-Trichlorphenyl-bis-(dipropylenglykol)-phosphit
nach Arbuzov in das entsprechende Phosphonat umwandelt. - 3. Die Verwendung der Verbindungen nach Anspruch 1 als Flammschutzmittel für Kunststoffe, insbesondere Polyurethane.
