Die möglichen Bindeverfahren und die Produktvarianten sind von der Maschinenausrüstung abhängig. Ebenfalls nachteilig ist, dass die Geschwindigkeiten der Arbeitsstationen an die Geschwindigkeit der Kette mit den Klammern angepasst werden müssen. Damit können keine für den jeweiligen Bearbeitungsprozess idealen Geschwindigkeiten gewählt werden. D.h. die Geschwindigkeiten der Arbeitsstationen können nicht einzeln optimiert werden, sondern sind vielmehr von der Kettengeschwindigkeit abhängig. Diese sind durch ein Transportsystem verbunden, welches eine Vielzahl von Klammern zum Einspannen von Buchblöcken, Blattstapeln, zusammengetragenen Signaturen oder dergleichen besitzt, wobei die Klammern in vorteilhafter Weise einzeln angetrieben und auf einer Führungsbahn geführt werden. Die Klammern werden in vorteilhafter Weise durch Wanderfeldmotoren, also Linearmotoren oder Servomotoren angetrieben. Zudem besitzt die Buchbindemaschine eine Maschinensteuerung zur Steuerung des Gleichlaufs einer jeweiligen Klammer des Transportsystems im Bereich einer Bearbeitungsstation und der entsprechenden Bearbeitungsstation bzw. von deren Werkzeug. Allgemeiner betrachtet, hat jede Bearbeitungsstation und die zugehörigen Bearbeitungswerkzeuge eine optimale Bearbeitungsgeschwindigkeit. In der Regel müssen Bearbeitungsstationen im Gleichlauf mit den bearbeiteten Buchblöcken betrieben werden. Durch die erfindungsgemäße und vorteilhafte Steuerung der Geschwindigkeiten der jeweiligen Klammern und die Ansteuerung der Geschwindigkeit eines Bearbeitungswerkzeuges einer jeweiligen Bearbeitungsstation ergibt sich die Möglichkeit, das Gleichlauffenster von Werkzeug und Buchblock zu vergrößern.
