Abstract

Esta invención se basa en un efecto sinérgico inesperado de un compuesto ciclopropeno y un empaque de atmósfera modificada para extender la vida útil y/o almacenamiento de los aguacates. Se proporciona un método para almacenar aguacates que comprende la etapa de exponer los aguacates a una atmósfera que contiene un compuesto ciclopropeno, en el que tanto (a) los aguacates están en un empaque de atmósfera modificada durante la exposición al compuesto ciclopropeno, o (b) los aguacates se colocan en un empaque de atmósfera modificada después de la exposición al compuesto ciclopropeno, y los aguacates permanecen en el empaque de atmósfera modificada durante al menos dos horas. En algunas realizaciones, el empaque de atmósfera modificada se construye de manera que la velocidad de transmisión de oxígeno para todo el empaque es de 200 a 40.000 centímetros cúbicos por día por kilogramo de aguacates.
