Abstract

La invencion se basa en un efecto sinergico inesperado de un compuesto ciclopropeno y un empaque de atmosfera modificada para extender la vida util y/o almacenamiento de los aguacates. Se proporciona un metodo para almacenar aguacates que comprende la etapa de exponer los aguacates a una atmosfera que contiene un compuesto ciclopropeno, en el que tanto (a) los aguacates estan en un empaque de atmosfera modificada durante la exposicion al compuesto ciclopropeno, o (b) los aguacates se colocan en un empaque de atmosfera modificada despues de la exposicion al compuesto ciclopropeno, y los aguacates permanecen en el empaque de atmosfera modificada durante al menos dos horas. En algunas realizaciones, el empaque de atmosfera modificada se construye de manera que la velocidad de transmision de oxigeno para todo el empaque es de 200 a 40.000 centimetros cubicos por cada dia por kilogramo de aguacates.
