Abstract

La presente invención está dirigida a un proceso para producir lignina sustancialmente pura a partir de biomasa lignocelulósica, que comprende: pretratar una materia prima lignocelulósica para producir una mezcla lignina-carbohidrato reactiva; hacer reaccionar biológicamente los carbohidratos en la mezcla, separar los sólidos remanentes de los productos de fermentación líquidos, y secar los sólidos resultantes para producir un producto de lignina sustancialmente puro. Opcionalmente, el producto de lignina puede ser lavado y sometido a un segundo paso de hidrólisis. Opcionalmente, el producto de lignina puede ser procesado adicionalmente mediante hidrotratamiento y/o pirólisis con el fin de producir productos deseables tales como aditivos para combustible.
