Abstract
Un método para producir cobalto metálico a partir de un refinado de níquel por extracción con solvente, dicho método comprende las siguientes etapas: (a) obtener el refinado de níquel por extracción con solvente para la producción de cobalto; (b) agregar un agente de precipitación de sulfuro a dicho refinado, para precipitar sulfuro de cobalto y sulfuro de cinc; (c) remover todo el amoniaco de la pulpa sulfurada (sólidos y líquido); (d) someter el sólido filtrado, sulfuro de cobalto (e impurezas), a lixiviación atmosférica; (e) reducir a un mínimo la concentración de cinc en el cátodo de cobalto, mediante extracción por solvente usando el extractor D2EPHA diluido en el solvente Escaid 110 o en un solvente equivalente, en cualquier sistema de extracción por solvente que comprenda el número requerido de etapas de extracción, lavado y desactivación, con un tiempo de residencia de no menos de 1 minuto en cada una de las etapas utilizadas; (f) llevar a cabo la remoción del níquel mediante intercambio iónico, para purificar el níquel; (g) agregar carbonato de sodio a la solución, para precipitar carbonato de cobalto; (h) lixiviar el carbonato de cobalto producido en un sistema que utiliza un ácido, preferiblemente ácido sulfúrico, y más preferiblemente, el anolito de la electrólisis del cobalto; (i) llevar a cabo la recuperación electrolítica del cobalto, para recuperar el cobalto de la solución en su forma metálica; y (j) permitir que el cobalto metálico se asiente sobre placas insolubles de acero inoxidable durante el tiempo requerido para la producción de cátodos de cobalto.
