Abstract

El uso de un gen que expresa una HMG reductasa inhibida sin retroalimentación para incrementar el nivel de 4-desmetilesteroles en las semillas de las plantas.1 El método para obtener semillas mediante(a) transformar una planta por:1. transformar una célula de la planta con un constructo de DNA recombinante que comprenda un segmento de DNA que codifique un polipéptido con una actividad HMGR inhibida sin retroalimentación y un promotor para dirigir la expresión de dicho polipéptido en dicha célula de la planta para formar una célula transformada de la planta.2. regenerar la célula transformada de la planta en la planta transgénica.3. Seleccionar plantas transgénicas que tengan niveles aumentados de 4-desmetilesteroles en las semillas comparados con las cepas silvestres de la misma planta.(b) Cultivar las plantas transformadas por una o más generaciones.(c) Recolectar semillas de la planta que creció según (b).
