Abstract

Foreliggende oppfinnelse er rettet mot å isolere aktive fragmenter av et hypersensitiv responsutløsningsprotein eller polypeptid, der fragmentet ikke utløser en hypersensitiv respons i planter. Også angitt er isolerte DNA-molekyler som koder slike fragmenter. Isolerte fragmenter av hypersensitive responsutløsningsproteiner eller polypeptider i samsvar med den foreliggende oppfinnelsen, og de isolerte DNA-molekylene som koder for dem, har de følgende aktivitetene: Gi sykdomsresistens til planter, økte plantevekst og/eller kontrollere insekter i planter. Dette kan bli oppnådd ved å anvende fragmentene av en hypersensitiv responsutløser i en ikke-infektiøs form til planter eller plantefrø under betingelser som er effektive for å gi sykdomsresistens, for å øke plantevekst og/eller å kontrollere insekter på planter eller plantevekst fra plantefrøene. Alternativt kan transgene planter eller plantefrø transformert med et DNA-molekyl som koder for fragmentet bli tilveiebragt, og de transgene plantene eller planter som er et resultat av de transgene plantefrøene blir dyrket under betingelser som er effektive for å gi sykdomsresistens, for å øke plantevekst og/eller for å kontrollere insekter på planter eller planter dyrket fra plantefrøene.
