Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及等离子显示设备及其驱动该显示设备的方法,并且更为具体的说,涉及关于对比度的等离子显示设备及其驱动该显示设备的方法。
背景技术
通常,等离子显示面板通过使用作为包括(He+Xe)、(Ne+Xe)或(He+Xe+Ne)的混合气体放电的结果发射的UV线来激发荧光材料物质来显示图像。这种等离子显示设备易于实现为薄和大尺寸的产品。而且,随着技术进步图像质量持续提高。
图1示出了根据现有技术的等离子显示面板的驱动波形。如图1所示,通过用于初始化整个屏幕的建立和撤除周期、用于选择单元的寻址周期和用于维持所选单元的放电的维持周期来驱动等离子显示面板。在这个情况下,Y表示扫描电极,Z表示维持电极,而X表示寻址电极。
在建立周期期间,将上升沿波形同时加到所有扫描电极Y。上升沿波形在整个屏幕的放电单元中产生建立放电(其是弱放电)。因此,在单元上累积壁电荷。
在撤除周期期间,将从低于上升沿波形的峰值电压的正的电压下降的下降沿波形同时加到扫描电极Y。该下降沿波形在单元中引起弱的擦除放电,由此擦除由建立放电产生的壁电荷和空间电荷中的过多电荷。而且,壁电荷均匀留在整个屏幕的单元中。
在寻址周期期间,将扫描脉冲scan顺序加到扫描电极Y,且将和扫描脉冲同步的正的数据脉冲加到寻址电极X。在扫描脉冲和数据脉冲之间的电压差被累加到在建立和撤除周期中产生的壁电荷,由此在应用了数据脉冲的单元中产生寻址放电。
在撤除周期和寻址周期期间,将保持维持电压电平(Vs)的正的直流(DC)电压提供到维持电极Z。
在维持周期期间,将维持脉冲Sus交替加到扫描电极和维持电极。在通过寻址放电选择的单元,无论何时在将维持脉冲Sus添加到单元中的壁电荷时施加维持脉冲Sus,在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间产生作为表面放电类型的维持放电。
通过在完成维持放电之后,提供具有小脉冲宽度的擦除倾斜波形来擦除在单元中的壁电荷。
现有的等离子显示面板通常具有缺点在于比如对比度被在建立周期和撤除周期产生的光线所降低。
具体地说,在建立周期期间施加的上升沿脉冲引起在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间,以及在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间的放电。具体地说,由上升沿脉冲引起并在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间以及在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间产生的放电大部分在建立周期的结束部分(closing part)中产生。
如图2所示,在扫描电极Y产生具有负极性的壁电荷,且在维持电极Z中产生具有正极性的壁电荷。
图2示出了在建立周期和撤除周期之后,在单元中累积的壁电荷。
可以知道在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电电压低于在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间的放电电压。
如图1所示,根据在建立周期的结束部分Td期间,将建立脉冲加到扫描电极Y和将地电平电压加到维持电极Z,由在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的增加电压差引起在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电。
由在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电引起的光线相比由在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间的放电引起的光线更容易到达观看者。
由在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电引起的流向观看者的光线量远远大于由在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间的放电引起的光的光线量。因此,因为在建立和撤除周期期间光线量增加,降低了对比度特性。
提出了根据如图3所示的现有技术的等离子显示设备的波形来防止对比度降低。
图3示出了根据现有技术的等离子显示设备的驱动方法,而图4示出了用在根据现有技术的等离子显示设备中的能量回收电路。
如图3所示,通过将每个子场划分为用于初始化整个屏幕的复位周期、用于所选单元的寻址周期和用于维持所选单元的放电的维持周期来驱动根据现有技术的等离子显示设备。
复位周期包括建立周期和撤除周期。在建立周期期间,将上升沿波形同时加到所有扫描电极Y。上升沿波形在整个屏幕的单元中产生弱放电,其引起在单元中的壁电荷。
在这个情况下,当维持电极Z在建立周期的结束部分Td期间保持漂浮状态时,在建立周期的初始部分期间,将基准电压加到维持电极Z。保持维持电极Z的漂浮状态(Y->Z),直到建立倾斜脉冲Ramp-up到达峰值电压V2,或者在Td的时间期间。如果维持电极Z维持漂浮状态,则预定电压被感应到维持电极Z。就是说,由于上升沿脉冲的电压将预定电压感应到维持电极Z。
在那时,由于如图4所示的能量回收电路,维持电极Z的状态变为漂浮状态。面板电容器Cp等效地表示为放电单元的等效物。在建立周期的初始部分期间,接通第四开关S4。因此,将基准电压GND加到维持电极Z。在建立周期的结束部分Td期间断开第四开关S4。在那时,第一到第三开关S1、S2、S3维持断开状态。因此,维持电极Z维持漂浮状态。在撤除周期期间,当第三开关S3接通时,将维持电压电平Vs加到维持电极Z。
当维持电极Z维持漂浮状态时,在建立周期的结束部分Td期间,不产生在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电,但是仅产生在扫描电极Y和寻址电极X之间的放电。换句话说,当在建立周期的结束部分Td期间,维持电极Z维持漂浮状态时可能感应预定的倾斜电压。然后,在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压差减小。因此,可以防止在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的表面放电。由此,可以降低复位周期的亮度,且提高对比度。
但是,根据现有技术的等离子显示设备在建立周期期间需要其中维持电极Z维持漂浮状态的周期Td以防止在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的表面放电。因此,根据现有技术的等离子显示设备在减小复位周期方面受到限制。
发明内容
因此,本发明的目的是至少解决现有技术的问题和缺点。
本发明的目的是提供等离子显示设备及其驱动方法,其能够在建立周期期间防止在扫描电极和维持电极之间的表面放电,同时减少建立周期。
根据本发明的等离子显示设备包括:等离子显示面板,其包括扫描电极;扫描电极驱动单元,其用于将复位脉冲加到扫描电极;和时序控制单元,其用于改变由扫描电极驱动单元施加的下降的复位脉冲的结束点。

图5是根据本发明的等离子显示设备的框图。
如图5所示,根据本发明的等离子显示设备包括等离子显示面板510、扫描电极驱动单元520和时序控制单元530。等离子显示面板510包括扫描电极Y、维持电极Z和寻址电极X。
扫描电极驱动单元520通过施加复位脉冲到扫描电极Y,在配置等离子显示面板510的整个单元中产生均匀的壁电荷。而且,扫描电极驱动单元520施加扫描脉冲以选择用于维持放电的单元,且施加维持脉冲以在所选的单元中产生维持放电。在这个情况下,优选地复位脉冲包括上升沿脉冲和下降沿脉冲。
时序控制单元530改变从电极驱动单元施加的下降的复位脉冲的结束点。时序控制单元530改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点以控制在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量。
时序控制单元530还能够在至少一个子场中改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
时序控制单元530能够通过改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点以及下降的复位脉冲的结束点来更为准确地控制在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量。
时序控制单元530能够在至少一个子场中区别地改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
时序控制单元530还能够根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点来改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。优选地,时序控制单元530控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点以便如果上升的复位脉冲的结束点被设置为加速则也被加速。
时序控制单元530根据在至少一个子场中上升的复位脉冲的结束点改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。优选地,时序控制单元530控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点,以使如果上升的复位脉冲的结束点被设置为加速则加速。
如上所述,将描述时序控制单元530的实施例以根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
在这个情况下,扫描电极驱动单元520恒定地维持每个子场中的上升沿脉冲或下降沿脉冲的梯度,而不考虑上升的复位脉冲的结束点或下降的复位脉冲的结束点的改变。换句话说,在施加以固定梯度上升的上升沿脉冲之后,扫描电极驱动单元520通过在由时序控制单元530控制的上升沿脉冲的结束点中施加下降沿脉冲来控制上升的复位脉冲的电压电平。
另外,在施加以固定梯度下降的下降沿脉冲之后,扫描电极驱动单元520通过使得扫描电极Y在由时序控制单元530控制的下降沿脉冲的结束点处于漂浮状态来控制下降的复位脉冲的电压电平。在下面实施例中,将描述关于扫描电极Y的飘浮状态的详细描述。
寻址电极驱动单元540与由扫描电极驱动单元520加到一个扫描电极的扫描脉冲同步地将相应的寻址脉冲施加到寻址电极X。维持电极驱动单元550将具有正极性的DC电压加到维持电极Z,且将维持脉冲与加到扫描电极Y的维持脉冲交替地加到维持电极Z。
参考附图,现在描述根据本发明的PDP驱动方法的实施例。
图6是表示根据本发明的等离子显示设备的驱动方法的流程图。
根据本发明的等离子显示设备的驱动方法中,在开始,将复位脉冲加到扫描电极S610。如果复位脉冲由上升沿脉冲和下降沿脉冲组成,在将下降沿脉冲加到扫描电极Y之前,将具有固定梯度的上升沿脉冲加到扫描电极Y。
在S620,时序控制单元530改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。因此,扫描电极驱动单元520通过在下降的复位脉冲的结束点停止下降的复位脉冲来完成复位脉冲的应用S630。
将以下面4个实施例对上述的过程进行更加详细的描述。
<实施例1>
图7表示根据本发明第一实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法的波形。
如图7所示,在根据本发明第一实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法中,时序控制单元530通过改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点来改变撤除周期。
通过控制时序控制单元530的下降沿脉冲的结束点,如果扫描电极驱动单元520加到扫描电极Y的下降沿脉冲的最小电压从第四电压V4移动到第三电压V3,则在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压差被减小。
在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量被减小,并且另外,光线量也被减少,使得可以改进对比度。另外,如果下降沿脉冲的最小电压从第四电压V4移动到第三电压V3,因为复位周期能够减少例如Ts,则减少了总的工作时间。
时序控制单元530在下降的复位脉冲的结束点输出漂浮控制信号到扫描电极驱动单元520。因此,扫描电极驱动单元520控制扫描电极Y以维持漂浮状态。因此,在扫描电极Y中,诸如第三电压V3的DC电压由具有在维持电极Z中感应的正极性的DC电压所感应。
扫描电极驱动单元520维持下降沿脉冲的梯度而不考虑下降沿脉冲的结束点的改变。换句话说,在应用以固定梯度下降的下降沿脉冲之后,扫描电极驱动单元520通过使得扫描电极Y在由时序控制单元530控制的下降沿脉冲的结束点中处于漂浮状态来控制下降的复位脉冲的电压电平。
<实施例2>
图8表示根据本发明第二实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法的波形。
在图8的上部部分,表示现有的波形以和本发明相比较,且在图8的下部部分,表示根据本发明第二实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法。
如图8所示,在根据本发明第二实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法中,时序控制单元530能够改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点以及下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
通过改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点以及下降的复位脉冲的结束点可以准确控制在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量。因为和第一实施例的相同,将省略改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点的细节。
如在第一实施例中解释的,通过设置扫描电极Y的漂浮状态产生下降沿脉冲的结束点的DC电压。
如图8的上部部分所述,现有技术的等离子显示设备感应维持电极Z以在建立周期的结束部分Td中处于漂浮状态。如果维持电极不进入漂浮状态,则在建立周期的结束部分Td中的扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压差被增加到产生表面放电的程度。
如果维持电极Z在建立周期的结束部分Td中进入漂浮状态,则在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压差变为大约0V。然后,防止在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电。在整个屏幕的单元中累积足够的壁电荷的过程主要在建立周期的开始部分执行。
如果撤除周期在时间点t0开始,则可以防止在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的电压扩大到表面放电的程度,同时在整个屏幕的单元中累积足够的壁电荷。
换句话说,通过改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点,时序控制单元530能够防止在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电,同时将足够的壁电荷加到单元中。
时序控制单元530可以根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点。就是说,如果时序控制单元530通过延迟上升的复位脉冲的结束点来升高复位脉冲的电压电平,则在单元中累积足够的壁电荷。因此,时序控制单元530还可以通过延迟下降的复位脉冲的结束点来消除过多的壁电荷。
如果时序控制单元530通过加速上升的复位脉冲的结束点使得复位脉冲的电压电平下降,则在单元中累积适量的壁电荷。所以,时序控制单元530还通过加速复位脉冲的结束点来控制下降沿脉冲的电压电平不处于过低的电平。
在这个情况下,扫描电极驱动单元520恒定地保持上升沿脉冲和下降沿脉冲的梯度,而不考虑上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点的改变。
换句话说,在应用以固定梯度上升的上升沿脉冲之后,扫描电极驱动单元520通过在由时序控制单元530控制的上升沿脉冲的结束点中施加下降沿脉冲来控制上升的复位脉冲的电压电平。
另外,在施加以固定梯度下降的下降沿脉冲之后,扫描电极驱动单元520通过使得扫描电极Y在由时序控制单元530控制的下降沿脉冲的结束点中处于漂浮状态来控制下降的复位脉冲的电压电平。
因此,最小化在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量,且然后,改进对比度。而且,减少了总的驱动时间。
<实施例3>
图9是表示根据本发明第三实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法的波形。
如图9所示,在根据本发明第三实施例的驱动方法中,时序控制单元530控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点以使其在至少一个子场中不同。
因为子场由彼此不同的维持脉冲组成,在维持周期在之后的壁电荷的分布在每个子场中不同。因此,相比下降的复位脉冲的结束点在每个子场中是相同的,对于每一子场适当地改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点将更为有效。
如在第一实施例中解释的,通过使得扫描电极Y处在漂浮状态来产生下降沿脉冲的结束点的DC电压。
虽然下降的复位脉冲的结束点被改变,扫描电极驱动单元520仍然恒定地维持下降沿脉冲的梯度。
因此,在每一子场中在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量能够被最小化,且然后,能改进对比度。而且,因为减少了复位周期而减少了总的驱动时间。
<实施例4>
图10是表示根据本发明第四实施例的等离子显示设备的驱动方法的波形。
如图10所示,在根据本发明第四实施例的驱动方法中,时序控制单元530控制上升的复位脉冲的结束点以及下降的复位脉冲的结束点以在至少一个子场中不同。
具体地说,时序控制单元530能够根据在每一子场中应用的上升的复位脉冲的结束点来控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点。就是说,如果时序控制单元530通过在特定子场中延迟上升的复位脉冲的结束点来升高复位脉冲的电压电平,则在单元中累积足够的壁电荷。因此,时序控制单元530还可以通过在特定子场中延迟下降的复位脉冲的结束点来消除过多的壁电荷。
如果时序控制单元530通过在特定子场中加速该上升的复位脉冲的结束点来降低复位脉冲的电压电平,则在单元中累积合适的壁电荷。所以,时序控制单元530还通过在特定子场中加速复位脉冲的结束点来控制下降沿脉冲的电压电平不处在过低的电平。
具体地说,如果子场中的灰度级较低,则更加加速上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点,因为具有小量维持脉冲的低灰度级子场受维持放电影响比高灰度级的小。
如在第一实施例中解释的,通过使得扫描电极Y处在漂浮状态来产生下降沿脉冲的结束点的DC电压。
扫描电极驱动单元520恒定地维持上升沿脉冲和下降沿脉冲的梯度,而不考虑上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点的改变。
因此,在扫描电极Y和维持电极Z之间的放电量被最小化,且然后,改进了对比度。而且,减少了总的驱动时间。
这样描述了本发明,很明显可以做出多种修改。这种修改不应该被认为脱离本发明的精神和范围,并且所有对本领域普通技术人员来说很明显的改变都意在被包括在下面权利要求的范围之中。
Claims (20)
1.一种等离子显示设备,其包括
等离子显示面板,其包括扫描电极;
扫描电极驱动单元,其用于将复位脉冲加到扫描电极;和
时序控制单元,其用于改变由扫描电极驱动单元施加的下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
2.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该时序控制单元改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点。
3.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该时序控制单元在至少一个子场中不同地控制下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
4.如权利要求2所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该时序控制单元在至少一个子场中不同地控制上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
5.如权利要求3所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该扫描电极驱动单元在每个子场中恒定地维持在复位脉冲中包括的下降沿脉冲的梯度。
6.如权利要求4所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该扫描电极驱动单元在每个子场中恒定地维持在复位脉冲中包括的上升沿脉冲的梯度,并在每个子场中恒定地维持在复位脉冲中包括的下降沿脉冲的梯度。
7.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该扫描电极驱动单元使得扫描电极在下降的复位脉冲的结束点处于漂浮状态。
8.如权利要求2所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该时序控制单元根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点来改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
9.如权利要求4所述的等离子显示设备,其中,该时序控制单元在至少一个子场中根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点。
10.一种等离子显示设备,其包括:
等离子显示面板,其包括扫描电极;
扫描电极驱动单元,其用于将复位脉冲施加到扫描电极;和
时序控制单元,其用于改变由扫描电极驱动单元施加的下降的复位脉冲的结束点以使其在至少一个子场中不同。
11.一种驱动包括扫描电极的等离子显示设备的方法,该方法包括步骤:
开始应用复位脉冲到扫描电极;
改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点;和
停止应用复位脉冲到扫描电极。
12.如权利要求11所述的方法,其进一步包括步骤:在改变下降的复位脉冲的结束点的步骤之前改变上升的复位脉冲的结束点。
13.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中,该下降的复位脉冲的结束点在至少一个子场中被不同地控制。
14.如权利要求12所述的方法,其中,该上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点在至少一个子场中被不同地控制。
15.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中,该在复位脉冲中包括的下降沿脉冲的梯度在每个子场中被恒定地维持。
16.如权利要求14所述的方法,其中,该在复位脉冲中包括的上升沿脉冲的梯度和在复位脉冲中包括的下降沿脉冲的梯度在每个子场中被恒定地维持。
17.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中,该扫描电极在下降的复位脉冲的结束点维持漂浮状态。
18.如权利要求12所述的方法,其中,该下降的复位脉冲的结束点根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点而改变。
19.如权利要求14所述的方法,其中,该下降的复位脉冲的结束点在至少一个子场中根据上升的复位脉冲的结束点而改变。
20.如权利要求19所述的方法,其中,该上升的复位脉冲的结束点和下降的复位脉冲的结束点在具有较低灰度级的子场中被更快加速。
