Description
技术领域
本发明涉及一种等离子体显示板(PDP),更具体地讲,涉及一种具有改善了结构的PDP,这种结构能够提供高水平的放电稳定性。
背景技术
一般地,在PDP中,对在电极之间填充了气体的电极施加预先设定的电压,产生光放电,光放电产生紫外线,激发荧光层而发光,从而显示图像。
根据驱动方式,PDP可分为直流式(DC)PDP、交流式(AC)PDP或混合式PDP。根据电极的数量,PDP也可分为两电极式或三电极式。DC式PDP包括辅助电极来感生辅助放电,AC式PDP包括通过分开寻址放电和维持放电来改善寻址速度的寻址电极。根据放电电极的布置方式,AC式PDP还可分为对向放电式和表面放电式。对向放电式可包括分别位于两个基板上的产生垂直于面板放电的两个维持电极,表面放电式可包括两个位于一个基板上在基板表面发生放电的维持电极。
图1是传统表面放电AC式PDP的透视图。
PDP 10包括上基板11和与上基板11相对并基本上平行于上基板11的下基板21。
维持电极对12包括公共电极13和扫描电极14,它们形成于上基板11的下表面上。放电间隙分开公共电极13和扫描电极14。
公共电极13和扫描电极14分别包括透明电极13a、14a和汇流电极13b、14b。汇流电极13b和14b可沿着透明电极13a和14a的边缘形成,将电压施加到透明电极13a和14a上。上介电层15覆盖维持电极对12,保护层16覆盖上介电层15。

具有上面结构的PDP的运行如下。
在寻址电极22和扫描电极14之间施加寻址放电电压产生寻址放电,这样,在所述寻址放电室中,形成壁电荷。接着,在寻址放电室的公共电极13和扫描电极14之间施加维持放电电压产生维持放电。维持放电产生的电荷碰撞放电气体,从而形成等离子体,并发出紫外线。紫外线激发荧光层26,从而在面板上显示图像。
如图2所示,红色、绿色和蓝色的荧光层26R、26G和26B的高度h1可与障肋的高度h2相同。这里,荧光层26的高度h1为障肋24的下表面与荧光层26延伸最高点之间的直线距离,障肋24的高度h2为障肋24的下表面与障肋24的上表面之间的直线距离。
通常使用的红色和蓝色荧光材料具有正极性,然而绿色荧光材料通常具有负极性。如果红色、绿色和蓝色荧光层具有与障肋相同的高度,则对于绿色荧光层的寻址电压会高于对于红色和蓝色荧光层的寻址电压。为了解决这个问题,日本已公开专利第2001-236893号公开了一种PDP,在这种PDP中,负极性绿色荧光材料与正极性绿色荧光材料混合来改变荧光材料的极性。然而,这种绿色荧光材料极性的改变可改变寻址放电的特性,这样会影响随后的维持放电。因此,人们期望设计出一种绿色荧光材料,能够进行稳定的维持放电。
发明内容
本发明提供了一种PDP,通过形成比障肋低的绿色荧光层而获得更稳定的放电特性。
将在接下来的描述中部分阐述本发明的其它特征,一部分通过描述将是清楚的,或者可以经过本发明的实施而得知。
本发明公开了一种PDP,包括形成在上基板和下基板之间来限定放电区域的障肋,和与所述放电区域相对应的包括红色、绿色和蓝色荧光层的荧光层。绿色荧光层的高度低于障肋的高度。
本发明还公开了上基板、与上基板相对的下基板、形成于上基板和下基板之间来限定放电区域的障肋,和形成于相应放电区域内的红色荧光层、绿色荧光层和蓝色荧光层。绿色荧光层的高度至少与红色荧光层的高度或蓝色荧光层的高度之一不同。

参照图3,所述PDP100可包括上基板111和与上基板111相对的下基板121。
上基板111可由如玻璃等透明材料组成,使光穿能过该上基板。多个维持电极对112可布置在与下基板121相对的上基板111的表面上。维持电极对112可包括公共电极113和扫描电极114。
公共电极113和扫描电极114可分别包括透明电极113a、114a和汇流电极113b、114b。汇流电极113b和114b可被连接到透明电极113a和114a的边缘上。这里,透明电极113a和114a按带状形成,汇流电极113b和114b比透明电极113a和114a窄。另外,放电间隙将透明电极113a和114a彼此分开,汇流电极113b和114b位于放电间隙的对向两侧面上。
透明电极113a和114a可由氧化铟锡(ITO)等透明的导电材料形成,使该透明电极穿过可见光。另外,向透明电极113a和114a施加电压的汇流电极113b和114b可由高导电性金属,如Ag或Cu形成,以提高透明电极113a和114a的导电率。尽管图3示出的透明电极113a和114a按带状形成,但是透明电极可具有各种形状。另外,公共电极和扫描电极可只包括透明电极或只包括汇流电极。上介电层115覆盖维持电极对112。保护层116可由氧化镁(MgO)组成,其可覆盖上介电层115。

带状障肋124可形成在下介电层123上,在上、下基板111和121之间限定放电区域125。障肋124可防止相邻放电区域125之间的串扰。障肋124可设置在寻址电极122之间并平行于寻址电极122。障肋可具有各种形状,例如包括矩形或三角形。
荧光层126可放置在放电区域125中。根据荧光材料发出光的颜色,由红色、绿色和蓝色荧光材料构成的荧光层126包括红色荧光层126R、绿色荧光层126G和蓝色荧光层126B。红色、绿色和蓝色荧光层126R、126G和126B形成一组,并且彼此相邻布置产生希望得到的颜色。
可包含Ne和Xe的混合放电气体填充在放电区域125中,上、下基板111和121沿着上、下基板111和121边缘用密封件如熔融的玻璃密封在一起。
参考图5,驱动波形可以在重置周期、寻址周期和维持周期中进行施加。驱动波形Vscan可被施加到扫描电极114上,驱动波形Vs可被施加到公共电极113上,驱动波形Va可被施加到所述寻址电极122上,以操作所述PDP 100。
为了初始化放电区域125中的壁电荷进行的重置放电发生在重置周期;为了在放电区域125中积聚壁电荷的寻址放电发生在寻址周期;维持放电发生在维持周期。维持放电使放电气体产生等离子体,等离子体产生紫外线激发荧光层126而发光。
例如,红色荧光层可由(Y,Gd)BO3:Eu形成,绿色荧光层可由Zn2SiO4:Mn形成,蓝色荧光层可由BaMgAl10O17:Eu形成。
这样,上面提到的红色和蓝色荧光材料具有正极性,具有正电荷,但是绿色荧光材料具有负极性,具有负电荷。当绿色荧光层具有负极性时,对于绿色荧光层发光需要比用于红色和蓝色荧光层更高的寻址电压。
另外,与红色和蓝色荧光层相比,由于绿色荧光层可具有不同的放电特性,绿色荧光层可发生错误放电或不规则放电,这样难以得到放电的稳定性。
因此,根据本发明的示例性实施例,绿色荧光层126G可由包含具有正极性的绿色荧光材料形成;绿色荧光层126G可低于障肋124。参考图4,绿色荧光层126G的高度H1为障肋124的下表面到绿色荧光层126G延伸的最高点的垂直距离,障肋124的高度H2为障肋124的下表面到障肋124的上表面的垂直距离。红色荧光层126R的高度H3和蓝色荧光层126B的高度H4可与障肋124的高度H2相等,然而,本发明不限于此。
绿色荧光层126G可由具有负极性的绿色荧光材料(即Zn2SiO4:Mn)和具有正极性的绿色荧光材料,如YBO3:Tb混合形成。另外,正极绿色荧光材料可包括大约50%到60%的这种混合物。
如果传统驱动波形施加到具有上述由包括具有正极性的绿色荧光材料形成的绿色荧光层126G的PDP上,那么,寻址放电可容易地发生,但是在寻址放电之后,还可能会发生过度的维持放电。
具体地说,参考图5的驱动波形Vscan,如果在重置周期的重置结束电压V2高于在寻址周期的扫描低电平电压V1,则产生过度维持放电的可能性增加。形成比障肋124低的绿色荧光层126G可以解决这个问题。
然而,如果绿色荧光层126G的高度H1比障肋124的高度H2低太多,则发生低放电。因此,绿色荧光层126G的高度H1和障肋124的高度H2的比率应该适当设置,以使放电能够更稳定地发生。
高度H1和H2的比率可根据表1的试验数据设定。
表1表示随着重置结束电压V2和扫描低电平电压V1的不同,障肋124的高度H2、绿色荧光层126G的高度H1与产生错误放电的比率之间的相关性。这里,产生错误放电的比率是产生过度放电的比率或产生低放电的比率。另外,(H2-H1)/H2×100为(障肋的高度-绿色荧光层的高度)/障肋的高度×100,V2-V1为重置结束电压减去扫描低电平电压。另外,绿色荧光层包括按1∶1的比例混合的具有正极性的绿色荧光材料和具有负极性的绿色荧光材料。

参考表1,当V2-V1为0V时,如果(H2-H1)/H2×100为0到1%和21到24%,那么会发生错误放电。另外,当V2-V1为5、10、15和20V时,如果(H2-H1)/H2×100为0到1%和21到24%,那么也会发生错误放电。过度放电可发生在(H2-H1)/H2×100为0到1%之间,低放电可发生在(H2-H1)/H2×100为21到24%时。因此,随着绿色荧光层126G的高度(H1)和障肋124的高度(H2)之间差距减小,产生过度放电的比率增加;随着绿色荧光层126G的高度(H1)与障肋124的高度(H2)之间差距的增加,产生低放电的比率增加。因此,当(H2-H1)/H2×100为2%到20%时,即使当V2-V1从0V增加到20V时,也能够进行稳定放电。
因此,根据上面的试验结果,(H2-H1)/H2×100可被设定为2%到20%。另外,在该设定范围内,重置结束电压可为20V,其高于扫描低电平电压。这样,可降低寻址电压。
如上面描述,绿色荧光层可由具有负极性的绿色荧光材料和具有正极性的绿色荧光材料混合而成,并且绿色荧光层可低于障肋形成。因此,寻址电压可被降低,并且能够获得放电操作的稳定性。
本领域技术人员会理解,在不脱离本发明的精神和范围的情况下,可对本发明作出各种修改和改变。因此,只要本发明的这些修改和改变落入所附权利要求及其等同物的范围内,本发明希望覆盖本发明的这些修改和改变。

1.一种等离子体显示板,包括:
上基板;
下基板,与所述上基板相对;
障肋,形成于所述上基板和所述下基板之间以限定放电区域;和
荧光层,包括在各个的放电区域中的红色荧光层、绿色荧光层和蓝色荧光层,
其中,所述绿色荧光层的高度低于所述障肋的高度。
2.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示板,其中,所述上基板包括多个维持电极对,所述维持电极对包括由上介电层覆盖的公共电极和扫描电极;所述下基板包括寻址电极,所述寻址电极由下介电层覆盖并在与维持电极对交叉的方向上形成。
3.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示板,其中,当H1为所述绿色荧光层的高度,并且H2为所述障肋的高度时,(H2-H1)/H2至少为2%。
4.如权利要求3所述的等离子体显示板,其中,(H2-H1)/H2在2%到20%的范围内。
5.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示板,其中,所述绿色荧光层包括具有负极性的绿色荧光材料和具有正极性的绿色荧光材料。
6.如权利要求5所述的等离子体显示板,其中,具有负极性的绿色荧光材料为Zn2SiO4:Mn,具有正极性的绿色荧光材料为YBO3:Tb。
7.如权利要求6所述的等离子体显示板,其中,YBO3:Tb的数量大于或者等于Zn2SiO4:Mn的数量。
8.如权利要求2所述的等离子体显示板,其中,驱动波形在重置周期、寻址周期和维持周期被施加到扫描电极上;并且驱动波形在所述重置周期的重置结束电压大于在所述寻址周期的扫描低电平电压。
9.如权利要求2所述的等离子体显示板,还包括覆盖上介电层的保护层。
10.一种等离子体显示板,包括:
上基板;
下基本,与所述上基板相对;
障肋,形成于所述上基板和所述下基板之间以限定放电区域;和
红色荧光层、绿色荧光层和蓝色荧光层,形成于各个放电区域中,
其中,所述绿色荧光层的高度至少与所述红色荧光层的高度或所述蓝色荧光层的高度之一不同。
11.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示板,其中,所述绿色荧光层的高度小于所述红色荧光层和所述蓝色荧光层的高度。
12.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示板,其中,当H1为所述绿色荧光层的高度并且H2为障肋的高度时,(H2-H1)/H2至少为2%。
13.如权利要求12所述的等离子体显示板,其中,(H2-H1)/H2在2%到20%的范围内。
14.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示板,其中,所述绿色荧光层包括具有负极性的绿色荧光材料和具有正极性的荧光材料。
15.如权利要求14所述的等离子体显示板,其中,具有负极性的绿色荧光材料为Zn2SiO4:Mn,具有正极性的绿色荧光材料为YBO3:Tb。
16.如权利要求15所述的等离子体显示板,其中YBO3:Tb的数量大于或者等于Zn2SiO4:Mn的数量。
