Abstract
本发明提供一种电致发光显示装置,其目的在于减少在像素间的驱动晶体管的特性参差,防止有机EL显示面板的显示不均,其中,供给栅极信号Gn的栅极信号线(10),与供给显示信号Dm的漏极信号线(11)相互交叉。然后,在像素内配置分割成4个的P沟道型驱动用TFT(12)、(13)、(14)、(15),且于这些驱动用TFT(12)、(13)、(14)、(15)的各个漏极连接于分割的有机EL组件(16)、(17)、(18)、(19)的阳极。而且,在这些驱动用TFT(12)、(13)、(14)、(15)的共通栅极中,连接有像素选择用TFT(21)。
Description
技术领域
本发明涉及一种电致发光(EL,electroluminescence)显示装置,尤其涉及在各像素具有像素选择用晶体管以及用来电流驱动电致发光组件的驱动用晶体管的电致发光显示装置。
背景技术
近年来,采用有机电致发光(Organic Electro Luminescece:以下简称“有机EL”)组件的有机EL显示装置正以取代CRT及LCD的显示装置而备受瞩目。尤其已开发一种具备作为驱动有机EL组件的开关组件的薄膜晶体管(Thin Film Transistor:以下简称“TFT”)的有机EL显示装置。
图3是显示有机EL显示面板内的一像素的等效电路图。在实际的有机EL显示面板中,该像素是多个地配置成n列m行的矩阵,供给栅极信号Gn的栅极信号线50与供给显示信号Dm的漏极信号线51相互交叉。
在这些两信号线的交叉点附近,配置有有机EL组件52以及驱动该有机EL组件52的驱动用TFT 53、用来选择像素的像素选择用TFT 54。
在驱动用TFT 53的源极中,是由电源线55供给正电源电压PVdd。此外,该驱动用TFT 53的漏极是连接于有机EL组件52的阳极。在有机EL组件52的阴极则供给有负电源电压CV。
在像素选择用TFT 54的栅极是通过连接栅极信号线50来供给栅极信号Gn,而在其漏极54d则连接有漏极信号线51,并供给显示信号Dm。像素选择用TFT 54的源极54s是连接于驱动用TFT 53的栅极。在此,栅极信号Gn是由未图示的垂直驱动电路输出。显示信号Dm是由未图示的水平驱动电路输出。
另外,在驱动用TFT 53的栅极连接有保持电容Cs。保持电容Cs是用来通过保持与显示信号Dm相对应的电荷,而在一图场(field)期间保持显示像素的显示信号而设。
说明上述构成的EL显示装置的动作。当栅极信号Gn达到一水平期间高电位时,像素选择用TFT 54即导通。如此一来,显示信号Dm即从漏极信号线51通过像素选择用TFT 54,施加至驱动用TFT 53的栅极。
然后,驱动用TFT 53的导电性(conductance)即依据供给至该驱动用TFT 53的栅极的显示信号Dm而变化,且与其相对应的驱动电流即通过驱动用TFT 53而供给至有机EL组件52,使有机EL组件52点亮。对应于供给至该驱动用TFT 53的栅极的显示信号,当驱动用TFT 53Dm而呈关断状态时,由于驱动用TFT 53中没有电流流动,故有机EL组件52也熄灭。

然而,由于制造上的原因,使得驱动用TFT 53的特性,例如其阈值电压(threshold voltage)在像素间极为参差不齐,故驱动用TFT 53的电流驱动能力会依每一像素而有不同。因此,有机EL组件52的发光亮度即依每一像素而有不同,结果,有产生有机EL显示面板的显示不均的担心。
发明内容
本发明是鉴于上述问题而作出发明,其特征在于,具备多个像素,各像素具有:对应栅极信号而选择各像素的像素选择用晶体管;电致发光组件;以及对应通过前述像素选择用晶体管所供给的显示信号而驱动前述电致发光组件的驱动用晶体管,而且,依各像素将前述驱动用晶体管分割成多个并加以配置,并将前述电致发光组件分割配置,以便与所分割的各驱动晶体管相对应。
由此,由于可使在像素间的驱动晶体管的特性参差不齐的情况减少,故可防止有机EL显示面板的显示不均。
依据本发明其有益效果是,由于是在一像素内将驱动晶体管分割,故可使在像素间的驱动晶体管的特性参差情形减少,故可防止有机EL显示面板的显示不均。

具体实施方式
其次,参照附图详细说明有关本发明实施方式的有机EL显示装置。图1是构成此有机EL显示装置的一像素的等效电路图。
其中,供给栅极信号Gn的栅极信号线10,是与供给显示信号Dm的漏极信号线11相互交叉。然后,在像素内配置分割成4个的P沟道型驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15,且这些驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的各个漏极连接至经分割的有机EL组件16、17、18、19的阳极。然后,在驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的共通源极中,连接有供给正电源电压PVdd的电源线20。有机EL组件16、17、18、19的阴极共通,其供给有负电源电压CV。
此外,在N沟道型像素选择用TFT 21的栅极中,是通过连接栅极信号线10而供给栅极信号Gn,其漏极21d则连接有漏极信号线11供给显示信号Dm。像素选择用TFT 21的源极21s,是共通连接于4个驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的栅极。在此,栅极信号Gn是由未图示的垂直驱动电路输出。显示信号Dm是由未图示的水平驱动电路输出。
此外,4个驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的共通栅极中是连接有保持电容Cs。保持电容Cs是用来通过保持与显示信号Dm相对应的电荷,而在一图场(field)期间保持显示像素的显示信号所设。
根据本实施方式,由于是将1个像素内的驱动用TFT分割为4个,故即使驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的特性各有变异,其变异也将在像素内被平均化,且与其它像素内的驱动用晶体管的间的特性参差情形也会减少。例如,即使在1个像素内被分割的驱动用TFT 12的阈值变高,剩余的任何驱动用TFT(例如驱动用TFT 13)的阈值只要适当的低,则该像素的亮度即会以该阈值适当低的驱动用TFT 17来决定。因此,可尽量缩小像素间的亮度不均。

其中,供给栅极信号Gn的栅极信号线10是朝行方向延伸,供给显示信号Dm的漏极信号线11是朝列方向延伸,这些信号线是相互立体交叉。栅极信号线10是由铬层或钼层等所构成,漏极信号线11是由该上层的铝层等所构成。
像素选择用TFT 21是多晶硅TFT。此像素选择用TFT 21构成为:在玻璃基板等透明绝缘性基板100上形成的多晶硅层所构成的主动层30上,形成栅极绝缘层(未图示),且在该栅极绝缘层上,形成从栅极信号线10延伸的2个栅极31、32,构成双栅极构造。
此外,此像素选择用TFT 21的源极21d是通过接触件33与漏极信号线11连接。构成像素选择用TFT 21的源极21s的多晶硅层,在保持电容领域延伸,而该上层的保持电容线34是通过电容绝缘膜而重叠,以该重叠部分形成保持电容Cs。
然后,从像素选择用TFT 21的源极21s延伸的多晶硅层,通过铝配线36而连接于4个驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的共通栅极35。
4个驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15是为多晶硅TFT。在玻璃基板等透明绝缘性基板100上形成的多晶硅层所构成的主动层101上,形成栅极绝缘层(未图示)102,且在该栅极绝缘层102上,形成由铬层或钼层等所构成的共通栅极35。在共通栅极35上形成有层间绝缘膜103。
在驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的各源极,通过接触件37而共通连接有供给正电源电压PVdd的电源线20。例如,在驱动用TFT 12的源极12s是连接于电源线20。此外,驱动用TFT 12、13、14、15的各漏极,是分别连接于有机EL组件16、17、18、19的各阳极40、41、42、43。各阳极40、41、42、43是由经分割的ITO所构成。
例如,驱动用TFT 12的漏极12d是通过接触件38,而连接至有机EL组件16的阳极40。在该上方层叠有电穴传输层44、发光层45、电子传输层46,且又在该上方形成有阴极47。阴极47,有机EL组件16、17、18、19是共通的。
另外,在本实施方式中,虽将驱动用TFT及有机EL组件分割为4个,但分割的数量可根据需要加以适当变化。又虽然会由于分割驱动用TFT及有机EL组件而使像素面积增加,但由于这些组件的进一步微细化,仍可充分缩小像素面积。
Claims (3)
1.一种电致发光显示装置,其特征在于,具备多个像素,而各像素是具有:对应栅极信号而选择各像素的像素选择用晶体管;电致发光组件;以及对应通过前述像素选择用晶体管所供给的显示信号而驱动前述电致发光组件的驱动用晶体管,而且,依各像素将前述驱动用晶体管分割成多个并加以配置,并将前述电致发光组件分割配置,以便与所分割的各驱动晶体管相对应。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其特征在于,前述电致发光组件的阳极被分割,以便与前述被分割的各驱动晶体管相对应。
3.根据权利要求1或2所述的电致发光显示装置,其特征在于,前述驱动用晶体管被分割配置成4个。
