背景
目前,全世界存在对尼龙纤维和长丝材料的大量使用。每年消耗约六百万磅来制造服装、地毯、绳索、行李箱、安全带、过滤织物、乐器弦、钓鱼线和帐篷,举几项来说。但是,许多尼龙长丝材料遭受低强度、可变形性和高成本之苦。因此,存在以低成本生产具有改善的热性能和机械性能的尼龙长丝的需要。
本申请提供一种独特的尼龙共混物长丝,其具有令人惊讶地增强的机械性能例如模量、极限强度和屈服强度,以及在降低的成本下具有改善的加工性能和降低的直径可变性。
发明内容
公开了一种包括脂族尼龙和半芳族尼龙的共混物的长丝。脂族尼龙是该共混物的主要组分,而半芳族尼龙是该共混物的次要组分。一方面,脂族尼龙是尼龙612且半芳族尼龙是6I/6T共聚物。另一方面,长丝是尼龙66且半芳族尼龙是6I/6T共聚物。

本申请考虑一种由尼龙共混物制备的新型长丝和由该长丝组成的特定制品。更准确来说,所述长丝包括脂族尼龙和半芳族尼龙的尼龙共混物。令人惊讶地,与脂族尼龙长丝相比较,本文描述的新型纤维和长丝已增强了物理性能和机械性能。另外,与脂族尼龙相比较,半芳族尼龙成本要低30-40%,所以本文描述的长丝的生产更加经济。
所述共混物中的主要组分是脂族尼龙,且次要组分是半芳族尼龙。脂族尼龙可为尼龙6、尼龙66、尼龙610、尼龙612、尼龙12及其混合物。半芳族尼龙可为6I/6T、6T/6I及其混合物。在一个实施方式中,半芳族尼龙是6I/6T。在另一实施方式中,半芳族尼龙是6T/6I。6I/6T共聚物或6T/6I共聚物不能单独地被拉伸成为纤维或长丝,但是与脂族尼龙的共混物可容易被拉伸并进行加工。
脂族尼龙以所述共混物的约70-94重量%的范围存在。在另一实施方式中,脂族尼龙的量在约87-91重量%的范围内。半芳族尼龙以所述共混物的约6-30重量%的范围存在。在另一实施方式中,半芳族尼龙的量在约9-13重量%的范围内。
所述尼龙共混物长丝还可含有在挤出之前或在挤出期间混合的添加剂,例如染料、颜料、荧光增白剂、稳定剂及其混合物。在尼龙共混物长丝中不存在玻璃或碳纤维。所述长丝可具有在约0.0025至约0.032英寸范围内的直径。所述长丝可为取向或部分取向的。另外,所述长丝可具有在约2.7至约9范围内的拉伸比。
此外,可由尼龙共混物长丝制备制品,其包括脂族尼龙和半芳族尼龙的共混物。所述制品可由单丝或复丝纤维制备。所述制品可为编织或针织制品。在一个实施方式中,所述制品可由单丝或复丝纤维制备,所述单丝或复丝纤维由尼龙66和尼龙6I/6T的共混物组成。
实施例-尼龙树脂的共混物:
实施例1
树脂1-HG264SI,高粘度尼龙612, (Jarden Applied Materials)
树脂2-AR190SI,尼龙6I/6T共聚物, (Jarden Applied Materials)
在V型掺和机中由87份的尼龙612和13份的尼龙6I/6T制备尼龙共混物并将其挤出成为单丝。用于该过程的设备为1¼"单螺杆挤出机,其具有两阶段拉伸和松弛容量,以及三个独立控制的加热炉。制备具有5.5的拉伸比和27的最终长丝尺寸的圆形单丝。水骤冷设置在75°F下。

如在表1中所显示的,尼龙共混物长丝的一个突出的性能是增强的初始模量和屈服应力。该尼龙共混物长丝具有比尼龙612对照长丝高20-40%的屈服应力。具有增加的屈服应力使得这些长丝或纤维在像过滤织物、乐器弦、有弹性的(lively)钓鱼线和用于行李箱和背包中的高性能织物的应用中是理想的。除了屈服应力增加,尼龙共混物长丝的机械性能,例如初始模量和拉伸强度,比脂族尼龙长丝对照的那些显著更佳。
相同的长丝还显示直径均匀性的改善。与尼龙612对照长丝相比较,实现大于约60%的长丝圆度改善。改善的加工性能和长丝横截面均匀性对于用尼龙生产的很多类型的纤维来说至关重要,包括安全带、过滤织物、轮胎增强材料、缝纫长丝(sewing filament)和高性能箱包面料(luggage fabrics)。此类制品可为针织或编织的。
尼龙共混物长丝的另一增强的性能是高玻璃化转变温度。具有高玻璃化转变温度意味着长丝不容易变形并且很好地保持其形状。在长丝制造期间,可通过空气喷射、编织物(knit)的填充和解编织过程的作用来制造长丝中的卷曲。此类卷曲可为故意或非故意的。若是非故意的,则必须通过将长丝加热接近至该长丝的结晶温度来除去长丝中的卷曲。
脂族尼龙通常具有在约10-45°C范围内的玻璃化转变(温度),取决于尼龙的水分含量。但是,6I/6T共聚物具有介于130-135°C之间的玻璃化转变温度,其允许尼龙共混物长丝维持其形状直至达到比仅由脂族尼龙组成的长丝高得多的温度。此外,与脂族尼龙长丝相比较,尼龙共混物长丝中保持更高卷曲的能力大大增强。
用于地毯的膨化变形长丝和用于织物的尼龙长丝将受益于较高水平的卷曲。在这些过程的每一个中,开发并保持高水平的卷曲的能力或甚至替代类型的卷曲可能是合意的。在地毯中,较高的卷曲保持性和稳定性可导致较低的覆盖重量(cover weight),而不牺牲表面覆盖率。在尼龙织物的情况下,较高的卷曲可提供更合意的手感(织物感)。
除了尼龙612共混物长丝之外,6I/6T共聚物与尼龙66或尼龙6的共混物还可满足大市场像安全带纱线(seat belt yarn)、膨化变形长丝和行李箱纱线(luggage yarn)的需求。
实施例2
由Nilit Ltd制造的名为Polynil P60的商业挤出级尼龙66和Shakespeare的名为AR190SI的尼龙6I/6T共聚物用于制备两种尼龙共混物。通过以规定的重量比率在V型掺和机中将两种树脂共混来制备共混物。使用具有以下详述的工艺参数的单螺杆挤出机、装水的骤冷槽、3个加热炉和4个辊架将共混物挤出成为8密耳的单丝(340旦尼尔)。

与在相同条件下加工的对照相比较,在两个样品共混物中观察到出人意料的机械性能的改善。下图1中描绘的应力-应变曲线显示与含有100%的尼龙66树脂的对照相比较,由尼龙66和尼龙6I/6T共聚物的90/10共混物组成的样品的模量、强度(tenacity)和断裂伸长率增加。由75/25共混物组成的第二样品展现出甚至更高的断裂伸长率。总地来说,对于90:10共混物而言,如由应力-应变曲线下的面积定义的韧性相对于尼龙66对照提高了64%,而75:25共混物提高了75%,如下图1中所示。
