Abstract

Description

在个人通讯设备的显示屏幕上标记文本的装置和方法
本发明涉及数据处理系统,尤其是具有触感式显示屏幕的个人数据处理通讯系统。
本发明涉及一个被转让给和本申请同一个受让人的题为“个人通讯设备中更新程序的现场编程装置和方法”的共同未决申请。上述申请中公开的内容将在这里通过引用加入。
正如上述申请中所介绍的那样,1994年由IBM公司所宣布的一种个人通讯设备SIMON包括许多便于个人通讯的特征。如图1和图2中所示,SIMON个人通讯设备2类似、并且也是一种蜂窝电话。它又是一种电子寻呼机。此外,还能传真发送和接收,以及电子邮件的发送和接收。而且,电脑笔记本、通讯录和日历也都能由系统2所提供。
如图所示,系统2包括扬声器4、开关6、音量调节开关8a和8b、触感式屏幕10、PCMCIA(个人计算机内存卡国际协会)卡插件槽12、PCMCIA卡释放开关14、电池组(电源)、输入/输出连接器18和麦克风20。另外,系统还提供了一根触针22,用来和触感屏10相互作用。然而应该指出的是,用户也可以用其指头来代替触针22。为了把系统用作一种蜂窝式的设备,在设备2中还有一根可延伸的天线24。
由于SIMON设备中存放着数据(例如通讯录),并且该设备本身能通过传真和电子邮件信息接收不同类型的信息,为了使之能更好地发挥作用,应该让用户能方便地对这些数据进行检索。尤其是在从显示屏幕上引用电话号码的情况下更是这样。因此,用户需要能直接在显示屏幕上、从所接收到的信息或预先存储的数据中有效地提取并使用有关的信息。
为了能够有效地检索被显示的特定数据,用户通过在显示器的触摸覆盖膜片上初始化一种标记方式来标识其所需的数字和文本。为了初始化标记方式,用户必须触摸该屏幕以便把光标带到触点下。此后,光标就能响应对显示器的触摸。如果这时用户触摸该屏幕,然后滑动其指头(触针),光标将随着滑动的触点移动。为了标记文本(包括字母、数字和空格),用户需要点到其所要标记的文本的开端。一旦光标位于所需文本的起点,用户应该继续触摸同一位置持续一个短的时间周期(以本发明为例约为0.5-1.0秒)。在这一时间周期结束时,系统将从光标滑动操作方式变为光标标记方式。然后,设备发出蜂鸣声,表示已经进入了标记方式。
一旦初始化了标记方式,被指头在其上移动过的文件被标记,并且其中的字符计数也被存起来。当用户到达了其所希望标记的文本的终点时,释放同显示器的触点。这时,设备发出和第一次蜂鸣声不同的第二次蜂鸣声,通知用户:所标记的文本被接受了(即:结束标记方式)。由功能键或图标所表示的操作菜单现在出现在显示器上。同时或几乎在此同时,被标记的文本显示在弹出窗口中,使用户能确认所需的文本已经被正确地标记。一旦确认被标记的文本,用户就能按任一功能键或图标,启动利用被标记文本的某种应用功能。当被启动的应用功能为电话应用功能并且所标记的文本是一个电话号码时,则通过加入设备中的通讯接口、按该电话号码拨电话。
因此,本发明的一个目的是为用户提供一种在触感屏上标记所需文本的有效方法。
本发明的另一个目的是为用户提供检索能用于任一种应用功能的被显示信息的能力。
本发明还有另一个目的:为用户提供从被接收到的消息和预先被存储的数据中标记文本的能力。
为实现上述目的,在具有能对触摸作出响应的显示屏幕的计算机系统中,本发明提供一种为了选择应用功能而标记显示在所述显示屏幕上的信息的方法,包括如下的步骤:
(a)检测对所述屏幕的接触,建立起始位置;
(b)检测被保持在所述起始位置上、经过一个预定的时间周期的所述接触,以便进入标记方式;
(c)在进入所述的标记方式之后,对显示在所述屏幕上的被所述的触摸从所述起始位置开始在其上移动过的信息进行标记;
(d)当所述的接触从所述屏幕上消除时,终止所述的标记方式。
结合附图,参考下面对本发明的一个实施例的描述,就能使本发明的上述目的和优点更加清楚,并且也能更好地理解本发明。在这些附图中:

参考图3,本发明的个人通讯设备的显示器10可以这样被选择为具有电话屏:用户按下屏幕底部的电话图标26,使得用户能把设备2用作一种蜂窝电话。关于触感显示器的更详细介绍请看题为“具有对液晶、触感显示器增强对比度控制的个人通讯机”和“具有为编辑触感显示器上的信息的增强缩放和加宽功能的个人通讯机”的专利申请,这两个专利申请都被转让给本发明的相同的受让人,并且在1993年11月1日提出申请。这些申请中的有关内容在这里将被引用结合。
当触摸屏幕底部的图标28时,显示图4中的流动办公室屏幕。正如所看到的那样,设备2的数据处理系统具有许多不同的应用功能。例如设备2有自己的日历和笔记本,以及文件夹和通讯录。此外,还能通过名为“Mail”(邮件)的图标执行电子邮件操作,通过名为“Fax”(传真)的图标执行传真操作。
为了使该设备能进行各种通讯,除了蜂窝电话所提供的无线电链路之外,还应该把各种不同的通讯链路也集成到设备2上。这些不同类型的通讯链路在上述的共同未决申请中描述。
被加入到设备2的集成通讯接口子系统的更详细介绍部分或全部在下面的共同未决申请中给出:“在蜂窝式和PSTN上的集成化传真发送/接收”(IBM公文摘要号BC9-94-099),“蜂窝窗式和PSTN环境的统一用户接口”(BC9-94-097),以及“PSTN或蜂窝式系统中的调制解调器振铃指示信号”(BC89-94-101)。所有上述的申请都被转让给本发明相同的受让人,并且其相关内容将在本发明中被引用。
图5是本发明的设备2的一个简化框图,给出了只和本发明有关的那些组件。(设备2的其他组件的更详细说明可在第一个被引用的共同未决申请中看到)。如图所示,连接到本发明系统的系统总线30的是处理器32。还有许多不同类型的存储器,如RAM34、E-PROM36和附加的存储器38也被连接到系统总线30上。存储器38可以采用PCMCIA的标准卡的形式插在设备2的插件槽12上,见图1。存储器38可能包括额外的RAM或ROM,用于存放系统中所用到的其他数据。EPROM36中存放着许多应用软件,其中有图4的流动办公室屏幕中提到的并作为图标引用的那些功能。RAM34是CPU32的工作存储器。
被连接到系统总线30并由CPU32所控制的还有触摸屏控制器40,其功能受到计数器42的影响,这实际上可以是系统时钟。受触摸屏控制器40控制的是音调发生器44。此外,被连接到触摸屏控制器40的还有屏幕触摸覆盖层46(参看上述的1993年11月1日提出的申请),该覆盖层检测被挤压的接触,即对显示器10的接触。由触摸覆盖层46附加的LCD(液晶显示器)显示器10也被连接到由CPU32所控制的总线30上。
被连接到系统总线30上的还有集成化的蜂窝式和PSTN接口50,在本发明的介绍中,该接口包括由天线52实例化的蜂窝式链路、常规类型的串口、常规的电话插口和用于数据/传真通讯的调制解调器。设备2通讯子系统各种特征的更进一步介绍请看第一个被引用的共同未决申请。
结合图6讨论本发明系统的操作,该图给出了由系统接收到的一个示例性的电子邮件消息。如图所示,图6的屏6A显示了代表图4的流动办公室屏幕中给出的“邮件”图标的主菜单。注意:该屏是从系统存储器EPROM36中检索到的、并且可以让用户在三种不同类型的消息,即“被接收消息”、“准备发送”的消息和“被保存的消息”中任意选择一种查看。屏6B给出了已经由设备2接收到的三种电子邮件消息。为了从屏6A中检索屏6B,用户按下名为“被接收消息”的功能键。
当用户想看某个特定的消息时,可按一下划出该消息的框。例如,当用户按下标题为“Joe Smith”的框时,有关Joe Smith的消息将被显示,例如屏6C中所显示的那样。如图所示,屏6C被分为两个区域,即文本区62和功能区64。包括数字、字母和空格的文本被显示在区域62中,而若干功能键和图标则被显示在区域64中。因此,触摸返回箭头图标,设备2的显示器就从屏6C返回到屏6B。同理,如果按下电话图标,将出现图3中所介绍的电话屏幕。同样,若按下流动办公室的图标(在笔记本前有一个信封的那个图标),则出现图4所示的流动办公室屏幕。问题标识图标(若按下的话)则提供查询。所给出的功能和箭头键都是一目了然的。
由于设备2的通讯性质,能标记出显示在文本区上的某一特定部分的信息是很有用的。对于电子邮件和其他类型的书写记录(如“记事本”中的记录),标记文本的能力特别重要。而且还希望能从消息中输入特定的文本,而无需草草地记在纸上。在本发明之前,如果用户要拨一个显示在屏幕上的电话号码,首先必须记下该号码,然后必须返回到电话屏上。仅当这样做之后,用户才能够拨该号码。使人感到很不方便。
对于本发明来说,用户不必拷贝所需的文本,而是直接标记显示在屏幕上的文本、以便作进一步的应用。下面结合图7a-7c介绍该方法。
如图7a所示,附加在Joe Smith职员会议记录底部的是JoeSmith和Bob Johes的电话号码,作库存报告的人用光线突出表示。若用户希望得到有关该次职员会议的其他信息,自然会想到打电话给Joe Smith或Bob Jones。假定用户要和Joe Smith谈话,可以很容易地就能做到:首先,把屏幕上的光标66定位在用户所要标记的文本的起始位置,在本例中为Joe Smith的电话号码。这是通过触摸该屏幕并将其指头(或触针)移动到Joe Smith的电话号码的第一个数字来实现的,因为这时系统正处于光标滑动方式并且被编程使之跟随屏幕上的接触点。正如图7A所示,光标66被定位在Joe Smith的电话号码的第一个“5”下面。这时,系统仍然保持光标滑动方式,即,光标响应用户指头的移动,并且继续跟随着用户指头的移动。
由于用户想要为今后的使用而标记电话号码,因此需要初始化系统的“标记方式”。这可通过将其指头放在屏幕上的相同位置,停留一个预定的时间周期。在本发明的实施例中,该时间周期约为0.5到1.0秒。在该系统中,这个时间是由图5的计数器42(或系统时钟)提供的。换句话说,计数器42起到作为一个定时器的作用,向触摸屏幕控制器40报告,而该控制器正在从传感器覆盖片46中接收被用户触摸的屏幕输入。
一旦确定用户的指头在屏幕的相同位置上已经停留了所需数量的时间,屏幕控制器40将激活音调发生器44以发出蜂鸣声,这告诉用户系统现在已经进入了标记模式。
一旦听到标记模式的蜂鸣声,用户就可以在屏幕上移动其指头以标记所需的文本。为了标记方式的继续,在初始化标记方式之后,用户最好对屏幕连续接触。因此,正如图7B中所示,用户已经把光标66移到Joe Smith电话号码的最后数字“4”。随着光标66沿着所需文本移动,触点或光标66在其上移动所经过的文本被突出强调,或被高度亮化,或被置为T2视频,如虚线框轮廓68所示的那样。
只要用户将其指头留在屏幕上,标记方式就会继续保持下去。因此,被标记的文本可以从一个字符变化到整个的文本区62。当用户将其指头从屏幕上移开时,标记方式被终止。标记方式的终止是由音调发生器44产生不同于表示进入标记方式时的蜂鸣声的第二次蜂鸣声来表示的。
当标记方式终止时,被标记的文本显示在一个弹出窗口70中,如图7C中所示。弹出屏幕使用户确认正确的文本已经被标记。除了弹出屏幕70之外,许多功能键也出现在屏幕上。每个功能键都提供了关于被标记文本的一种选择。例如,如果用户确认正确的文本已经被标记,例如Joe Smith的电话号码,接着,用户可以通过按下“拨号”功能键72,指示系统拨该电话号码。另外,如果用户改变其想法,可以触摸功能键74,解除对该文本的标记。另外,通过按返回箭头图标也能取消被标记的文本。在本发明中,用户不必记下任何东西,只需标记所需的电话号码,然后按“拨号”功能键,就能直接和某人通话。
除了标记电话号码之外,本发明也能标记其他的文本。例如,如果用户想知道Bob Jones出现在文本中的次数,只需标记“BobJones”,然后按下“检索”功能键76、“检索”功能可扩展到存储在“邮件”目录中的各种消息以及保存在不同目录中的其他文件,例如“记事本”和“地址通讯录”目录。
即使电话号码的拨号是结合电话号码的标记介绍的,但在题为“个人通讯设备中信息智能检索的装置和方法”(BC8-94-0282)、被转让给本发明相同的受让人的一份共同未决申请中,被标记的文本不必是电话号码。简而言之,在上述的共同未决申请中,标记一个合适的缩略查找项,就可以对Joe Smith的电话号码直接拨号,而没有必要对其电话号码作任何直接的引用。而且,被标记的文本可以用在许多应用功能中,除了其文本正在被查看和标记的应用之外。例如,图7A-7C中说明的被标记的电话号码可以被插入到地址通讯录中,并且具体地插入到Joe Smith的地址中。或者,为了达到这一目的,被标记文本可以被指定路径到“To Do”目录文件,用于进一步和Joe Smith通话,如果用户认为以后再和Joe Smith通话更合适的话,就可以这样做。
在任何情况下,被标记的号码都被送到集成的蜂窝式和PSTN通讯接口50去拨该电话号码。
图8的流程图给出了标记文本、然后拨号的操作过程。如图所示,首先运行扫描屏幕服务子程序,该子程序是被存放在系统的E-PROM36中的子程序之一,并且被运行在该设备上的大多数(如果不是全部的话)应用软件所调用。简单来说,扫描屏幕服务子程序监控着显示在屏幕的区域64上的按钮(或功能键)和图标以及显示在屏幕的区域62上的文本。功能键或图标中的一个是否被按下,由按钮按压子程序802确定。而模块804则确定文本区(如图6中的62)是否被按下。若文本区被按下,通过模块806A把光标移到被按压位置。同时,定时器(可能是计数器42或系统时钟)在模块806B中被设置。以后,模块808进一步确定文本区是否被按。如果没有,处理返回模块802,确定是否有任何功能键和/或图标已经被按下。
如果文本区确实被按,通过模块810确定是否存在一个新的光标位置。若存在新的光标位置,处理器决定系统仍保持光标滑动方式,并让处理返回模块806a和806b,以便把光标移到新的位置并重置定时器。如果确认光标位置没有被移动,即,用户将其指头停留在屏幕上的相同位置,则处理机通过模块812确定某个预定的时间周期是否已经结束。如果还没有结束,系统将通过模块808判断文本区是否继续被触摸,并通过模块810判断用户是否已经移动其指头。
如果确认光标返留在相同的位置上已经超出某个预定的时间周期,则在模块814中发出由音调发生器44产生的蜂鸣声,表示处理进入了标记状态。在模块816中,系统继续扫描触感显示器,判断文本区是否继续被触摸。如果是这样,在模块818中,从标记方式开始的点到该触点的屏幕区域被标记,被标记的文本或者被突出或者被反视频显示。该处理过程继续直到系统检测到该文本区不再被触摸,即,用户停止按压显示器屏幕。随着接触的消除,在模块820中由音调发生器44发出第二次蜂鸣声,通知用户标记方式现在被终止。
同时,指示被标记文本开端的指针和字符计数的数目(即被标记的文本)被送到如RAM34这样的存储器中,供各种应用功能使用。
正如前面所提到的,应用功能之一是通话应用功能(如图7C所示)。随着通话应用功能的开始,被标记的电话号码显示在弹出窗口70中,而另一次蜂鸣声(不同于模块814和820中发出的蜂鸣声)是在模块822a中由音调发生器44发出的。模块822b中的弹出窗口70被认为是一种确认手段。接着在模块824中,系统确认被标记的文本是否正确。如果正确,在模块826中,键72被触摸以拨出被确认的电话号码。否则,在模块828中,用户触摸消除标记按钮74,就能对被标记的文本消除标记。此后,系统在模块830中返回调用扫描屏幕服务子程序。

Claims (7)

1.在具有能对触摸作出响应的显示屏幕的计算机系统中,一种为了选择应用功能而标记显示在所述显示屏幕上的信息的方法,包括如下的步骤:
(a)检测对所述屏幕的接触,建立起始位置;
(b)检测被保持在所述起始位置上、经过一个预定的时间周期的所述接触,以便进入标记方式;
(c)在进入所述的标记方式之后,对显示在所述屏幕上的被所述的触摸从所述起始位置开始在其上移动过的信息进行标记;
(d)当所述的接触从所述屏幕上消除时,终止所述的标记方式。
2.权利要求1的方法,其特征在于,所述的应用功能之一包括一种通讯应用功能,并且所述的被标记信息表示一个呼叫号码,所述的方法进一步包括以下的步骤;
把通讯接口装置加入到所述的系统中;
把所述的被标记信息送到所述的通讯接口装置中,启动对所述呼叫号码的呼叫。
3.权利要求1的方法,其特征在于,显示在所述屏幕上的信息包括文本和图标;并且
所述的步骤(c)进一步包括步骤:
对所述被标记信息按醒目或反视频文本显示。
4.权利要求3的方法,其特征在于进一步包括步骤:
触摸所述屏幕上的所述图标之一以启动某个应用功能;
在所述的应用功能中利用所述的标记文本。
5.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于,所述的应用功能之一包括一种通讯应用功能,并且所述的被标记文本表示一个呼叫号码,所述方法进一步包括步骤:
把通讯接口装置加入到所述系统中,使得所述系统能和其他的通讯系统进行通讯;
把所述的被标记文本送到所述的通讯接口装置中,实现对所述呼叫号码的通讯连接。
6.权利要求1的方法,其特征在于,所述应用功能之一包括一种通讯应用功能,所述方法进一步包括如下的步骤:
把通讯接口装置加入到所述系统中,使所述系统能和其他的通讯系统进行通讯;
以显著的显示方式显示所述被标记的信息;
确认所述被标记信息表示一个所需的呼叫号码;
把所述的被标记信息送到所述的通讯接口装置中,以启动对所述的呼叫号码的呼叫。
7.权利要求1的方法,其特征在于进一步包括步骤:
当所述的标记方式被启动时发出一个音响;
当所述的标记方式终止时发出第二个音响。
