季铵化合物也用于许多用途中，例如用于消毒剂、表面活性剂、织物软化剂和洗发液中的调理剂。

在一个实施方式中，本发明提供了在个人护理组合物中提供保湿性的方法，所述方法包括将包含式(I)的阳离子的化合物包含到个人护理组合物中。使用的组分和它们的比例和加入方式，与在常规个人护理组合物中知晓的那些相似，包括，任选地，美容可接受的润肤剂、保湿剂、调理剂、油、防晒剂、表面活性剂、乳化剂、防腐剂(preservatives)、流变改性剂、着色剂、防腐剂、pH调节剂、推进剂、还原剂、香精、发泡剂或消泡剂、鞣制剂、脱毛剂、收敛剂、防腐剂(antiseptics)、除臭剂、止汗剂、驱虫剂、漂白剂、美白剂、抗头屑剂、粘合剂、抛光剂、强化剂、填充剂、阻隔性材料或抗菌剂。
在一个实施方式中，本发明提供包含包含式(I)的阳离子的化合物的头发护理组合物。
在一个实施方式中，本发明提供包含包含式(I)的阳离子的化合物的皮肤护理组合物。
实施例
下述实施例仅用于说明目的并且不旨在限制本发明的范围。
实施例1
3-氯-2-羟基丙基三甲基氯化铵和2-(2-二甲基氨基)乙氧基乙醇反应，以提供2-羟基-N1-(2-(2-羟基乙氧基)乙基)-N1,N1,N3,N3,N3-五甲基丙基-1,3-二氯化铵
500ml圆底夹套烧瓶装备磁力搅拌棒并置于搅拌板上。循环浴温度设置在10℃并用热电偶监测。3-氯-2-羟基丙基三甲基氯化铵(购自陶氏化学公司，商标QUAT188)100g(50％溶液；0.27mole)加入到反应器烧瓶中。接着，在30分钟内加入约23g的NaOH溶液(50％溶液)，以将溶液的pH值增加到超过12。保持循环浴在10℃，同时在约1小时内滴加37.3g(0.28mol)的2-(2-二甲基氨基)乙氧基乙醇。一旦加入所有的胺，内容物在10℃反应1小时。然后温度增加至45℃反应2.5小时。移除热源，然后将内容物冷却至室温，使用浓盐酸将pH调节到7。使用布氏漏斗和实验室真空通过Whatman42号滤纸过滤反应溶液。
从Bruker300MHz波谱仪获得的13CNMR谱图(样品以D2O中的～30重量％制备)确定了标题化合物：
DEPTNMR(250MHz，D2O)(53.0,53.2)，54.5、60.4、62.1、64.2、64.8、66.6、67.7、72.0。
实施例2
3-氯-2-羟基丙基三甲基氯化铵和2-[2-二乙基氨基)乙氧基]乙醇反应，以提供N1,N1–二乙基-2-羟基-N1-(2-(2-羟基乙氧基)乙基)-N3,N3,N3-三甲基丙基-1,3-二氯化铵
基本上根据实施例1的方案制备标题化合物，除了条件和反应物的量可以变化，通常为1:1摩尔比和3-氯-2-羟基丙基三甲基氯化铵稍稍过量，但是上述因素是在本领域普通技术人员的知识之内。
实施例3

实施例5
制成了基本上根据实施例1-4制备的化合物并配制成具有其它常规组分的个人护理组合物。通过培训的专门小组人员评估所述组合物，每个专门小组人员被要求将本发明的组合物和常规组合物进行比较。
对于头发护理组合物。通过要求专门小组人员去感觉和梳理两种欧洲人的原始棕发的发束，来测定湿发和干发的感觉偏好和湿发和干发的梳理性，所述欧洲人的原始棕发可商购自InternationalHairImportersandProductsInc.NY(USA)，一种发束用本发明的组合物处理，其它发束用常规组合物处理。要求每位专门小组人员比较发束和状态，其中哪个发束梳理/感觉更顺滑。不允许答案“相同”。报告的数字是喜欢一种大于另一种的专门小组人员的百分比。
对于皮肤护理组合物，专门小组人员将样品(一份本发明组合物，一份常规组合物)施用于他们右或左前臂的指定区域。首先，评估每份样品的施用容易性、作用时间、沉积匀度、覆盖度、吸收速度、光泽度、不光滑度、皮肤湿度、重量感(heaviness)、油脂量、粘度、干燥的快速性、总体皮肤感受和总体外观。经过预定时间后，再次评估每份样品，这次评估覆盖度、覆盖均匀度、光泽度、不光滑度、皮肤湿度、粘稠感和总体外观。
