在消费者将模块返还给制造商的情况中，在块40处，在使用折扣的实施例中，将如期付给消费者折扣。在块42处，从CE设备的制造商到调谐器模块的制造商的使用费(royalty)支付可以被调整以便反映CE设备仍然是非TV设备的事实，例如，由被制造商因为带有调谐器模块16的CE设备12的初始销售而支付并由许可机构管理的任何ATSC使用费可被贷记或退还给CE设备12的制造商。
图3示出替代系统，其中CE设备44可利用被配置成支撑包含一个或多个TV调谐器的TV调谐器模块48的调谐器模块插座46来形成。CE设备44的机架包括受访问一个或多个基于盘的和/或固态的存储介质54的处理器52控制的视频显示器50。处理器52还可与诸如无线或有线调制解调器或无线电话收发器的网络接口56通信以从互联网获得视频来在显示器50上显示。当TV调谐器模块48与插座46接合时，电通信在模块48和处理器52之间建立。
在任一情况下并且现在参考图4，在块58处，TV模块48可与安装有插座46的CE设备44一起被销售。指示可被展示在诸如图1所示的衬底之类的衬底上或展示在显示器50上，以在块60处指示消费者如果CE设备44不需要TV能力则将模块48从插座46拆除。消费者还可在块62处被指示例如使用诸如图1所示的预编址的壳体之类的预编址的壳体来将调谐器模块48返还给CE设备44的制造商，并且如果需要的话，该指示可向消费者承诺折扣。
移到块64，在使用折扣的实施例中，如期付给消费者折扣，并且从CE设备的制造商到调谐器模块的制造商的使用费支付可以被调整以便反映CE设备仍然是非TV设备的事实，例如，由被制造商因为带有调谐器模块16的CE设备12的初始销售而支付任何ATSC使用费可被贷记或退还给CE设备12的制造商。

Claims (10)

1.一种方法包括：
提供不具有TV调谐器的消费电子(CE)设备，所述CE设备外部带有在所述CE设备外部并可连接到所述CE设备的TV调谐器模块，以将TV信号发送到所述CE设备中的处理器；
指示带有调谐器模块的所述CE设备的购买者：如果所述购买者希望所述CE设备配备TV调谐器能力，则将所述调谐器模块连接到所述CE设备；以及
指示所述购买者：如果所述购买者不希望所述CE设备配备TV调谐器能力，则返还模块。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法，包括在普通包装盒中提供所述模块和设备。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法，包括在所述包装盒中的壳体中提供所述模块以及给消费者的如下指示：如果需要TV能力，则将所述调谐器模块连接到所述CE设备，并且如果不需要TV能力，则返还模块以便打折。
4.根据权利要求3所述的方法，其中所述指示被提供在盒中的衬底上。
5.根据权利要求3所述的方法，其中所述指示被包含在所述CE设备中的计算机可读存储介质上，以在设备的显示器上展示所述指示。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法，包括指示所述购买者：一旦返还所述调谐器模块，将付给所述购买者折扣。
7.一种装置包括：
包装盒；
所述包装盒中的CE设备；
所述包装盒中的TV调谐器模块；以及
包含在衬底上或计算机可读存储介质上的指示，指示所述装置的购买者：如果所述购买者希望CE设备所述配备TV调谐器能力，则将所述TV调谐器模块与所述CE设备接合或保持接合，并且如果所述购买者不希望所述CE设备配备TV调谐器能力，则将所述TV调谐器模块而非所述CE设备返还到预定地址。
8.根据权利要求7所述的装置，其中所述TV调谐器模块不被安装在所述包装盒中的所述CE设备中，而是连同所述指示一起被放置在所述包装盒中的壳体中。
9.根据权利要求8所述的装置，其中，所述指示通知所述购买者：一旦返还所述调谐器模块，将付给所述购买者折扣。
10.根据权利要求8所述的装置，其中，所述TV调谐器模块包括通用串行总线(USB)线缆，并且所述CE设备包括可连接到所述线缆以便可操作地将所述TV调谐器模块与所述CE设备相接合的USB端口。
