Ist .der Magnetapparat für das Anlassen mit einer besonderen bei ganz kleinere Dreh zahlen ruckweise wirkenden Antriebsvorrich tung ausgestattet, so hat man drei verschie dene Betriebsarten der Zündung: 1. im Bereich der niedrigsten Drehzablen Magnetzündung mit ruckweisem Antrieb des Läufers des Magnetapparates; 2. vom Aufhören des ruckweisen Antrie bes bis zu derjenigen Drehzahl, bei wel cher die Dynamospannung zum Einschalten cles Schalters n ausreicht, Magnetziindungmit gleichförmigem Antrieb des Läufers;
Ignition device for internal combustion engines on motor vehicles with dynamo. The present invention relates to an ignition device for internal combustion engines on motor vehicles which are equipped with a dynamo, for example for an electrical lighting device.
The invention consists in .that at the low speeds when starting the internal combustion engine, ignition is carried out by a magneto ignition device driven by the engine, while the dynamo machine is used as an ignition current source when the engine is running, so that its current flows into the primary winding @cles magnet apparatus is conducted. A single common breaker and distributor device is provided for the magnetic and dynamic ignition, to which, by hand or automatically,
the ignition timing can be adjusted. The rotor of the magnet apparatus is expediently adjusted to its drive so that the apparatus delivers the best spark when the interrupter is delayed, as is needed to start the internal combustion engine. Since the magnet apparatus runs continuously, i.e. also generates alternating current in its primary winding when the dynamo sends direct current through this winding, it could happen that at the time of the interruption an alternating current wave completely or almost completely cancels the dynamo current. In this case, of course, the ignition would fail.
This danger can be averted by suppressing the counter wave of the magnetic apparatus, for example in such a way that the magnetic force flow is diverted from its normal path through the armature of the magnetic apparatus by a magnetic short-circuit device.
The ignition device according to the invention has the great advantage over the known battery ignition devices that the required ignition voltage is generated only by magnetic induction both for starting and for operating the internal combustion engine. So you are no longer dependent on the collector battery for starting, which always runs the risk of being incapable of supplying the current required for ignition for whatever reason.
On the other hand, the subject of the invention has the advantage over a pure magneto ignition in cars with a dynamo that it is lighter and cheaper because, in addition to the dynamo that is already available, a very small magnet device is required. The magnet apparatus can therefore be chosen to be so small that it does not need to be suitable for different settings of the ignition timing.
One can go the furthest with the reduction of the magnet apparatus if one disengages it with a known jerky drive device, which generates a high speed even at the lowest speeds. In this case, the magnet apparatus can be set so that the change in force lines coincides with a moderate pre-ignition position of the interrupter, because the jerky drive device is known to produce a fairly considerable retardation by itself.
You then have the advantage, (even after the regular drive has ceased, the internal combustion device will be set to pre-ignition a little and the magnet apparatus will still deliver the best spark. The transition from the regular drive of the magnet apparatus to the uniform drive can be done by hand or be effected automatically.
Finally, it should also be emphasized that the magnet apparatus can also be used as an auxiliary operating ignition in the event that the dynamo should ever fail. Also considered as double ignition, the new system offers the advantage that it is lighter and simpler and accordingly cheaper than the known double ignition systems, mainly because there is no special ignition coil, but the armature winding of the magnet apparatus also forms the ignition coil.
It is advisable to use a magnetic device whose coil is stationary while the magnet system or power line guide pieces rotate.
In the drawing, an embodiment example of the subject invention is shown schematically.
It is an ignition device for an internal combustion engine on a motor vehicle with an electrical lighting system which, in a known manner, has a dynamo d with a shunt exciter winding e, a collector battery b and the lighting body o. The automatic switch n is between the dynamo machine d and the battery b. the voltage winding c to be ordered.
The switch a has two armatures f and g that are isolated with one another. The armature f controls a contact h, which is in the connecting line between the Dynamo d and the battery b is located, and the armature g two contacts i. and k belonging to the ignition device for the engine.
A small magnetic apparatus, which, like the Dynamoma.scliine, is driven by the wagon engine, carries a primary? # 4cklung p and a SelLundä.rwicl@lung s on its armature in the usual way.
One end of the primary winding is led to ground via the interrupter tc, and the other end of this winding is connected to the armature g of the automatic switch! 7. Of the two contacts that the armature switch controls g., The contact i controls a connection between the dynamo d and the magnet apparatus, while the other contact 7; controls a connection to the ground.
The visual development s of the magnetic apparatus is connected on the one hand to the primary weight p and on the other hand to the circulating organ of the distributor -i. The ignition hearts z are connected to the fixed contacts of the distributor.
In the current state and the system, the contacts are ht. and i. on the automatic switch a open and contact 1: is closed When the internal combustion engine is started, the magnetic device m is therefore switched in the usual way. It first supplies the ignition current for the candles z.
If the engine has started and the voltage of the dynamo d has risen to a certain point, the automatic t N switch a attracts its double armature f, g.
On the one hand, this has the consequence that the contact la is closed and thus the battery b and the lighting fixture o are switched on to the dynamoma machine and, on the other hand, that the end of the primary winding 1i of the magnet apparatus, which was previously connected to the ground through the contact k, is disconnected from the ground separates and whose contact i establishes a connection between the dynamo and the primary winding p. Part of the dynamo current flows into the primary winding p of the magnet apparatus and is periodically interrupted at the breaker.
The armature of the magnet apparatus with its two windings therefore now acts as an ignition coil fed by direct current.
As soon as the speed of the combustion engine has dropped so far that the dynamo voltage is no longer sufficient to keep the armature of the automatic switch a tightened, the switch from dynamo coil ignition to pure magneto ignition occurs automatically.
If the magnet apparatus for starting is equipped with a special drive device that acts jerkily at very low speeds, there are three different operating modes of ignition: 1. in the area of the lowest speed magnet ignition with jerk drive of the magnet apparatus rotor; 2. from the cessation of the jerky drive up to the speed at which the dynamo voltage is sufficient to switch on the switch n, magneto-binding with uniform drive of the rotor;
3. at the higher speeds, d. 1i. When the internal combustion engine is running at full speed, dynamic ignition is carried out using the magnetic apparatus as the ignition coil. Whether changing the time manually or automatically, for example. is made with the help of a centrifugal governor, is irrelevant to the invention.
Likewise, the structural arrangement of the parts belonging to such an ignition device is arbitrary. Under certain circumstances it will be advantageous if the dynamo is assembled with the small magnet apparatus.
