Sealed and swiveling oil lubricator. The object of the present invention is an oil lubricator, the characteristic of which resides in that a spherical cavity formed in the upper part of the body of the lubricator encloses a cover formed by at least one portion of a hollow sphere and. maintained from such. so that it can be oriented so as to have a filling opening, in which the spout of a water bar can be engaged, for example, and that it ensures an absolute seal, when it is returned in closed position.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, three practical embodiments of the invention; the first is represented by FIGS. 1 to 4, the second by fig. 5 and 6 and the third by fig. 7 and 3.
Fig. 1 is. a section through the axis of the vertical lubricator with the cover closed; fig. 3 is a similar section with the neck open; fig. 2 is a plan view of FIG. 1; fig. 4 is an elevation (the same lubricator arranged horizontally, the cover open.
The lubricator consists of a body a with a cylindrical outer surface comprising an aix-pana, either on the upper part b or on the lower part c as shown in fig. 4, this hexagon used for fitting or removing the lubricator. The interior of the body <I> a </I> is clinical at its base and splieric; at its top in d.
The cover e is a portion of a hollow sphere on the edge of which are practiced den2i-circular and equidistant h indentations. 11 is provided with a button fj projecting outwardly and extended inside the sphere by a rod whose length is.
cteterinf_e so that its end does not reach the point of the center (the sphere. A spring with bou = din. t whose outer diameter is slightly greater than that of the central cylindrical hole extending the inner cone of the body a est. eni. forced by one of its ends into said hole,
in order to be fixed to the body! c and to occupy the central part of the latter's cavity therein while leaving sufficient passage for the oil introduced into the lubricator. The other end of this spring engages in the appendage of the button g and it is capped con. sequentially from cover e as seen in fig. 7. and 2-.
The length of this spring is calculated so that it is compressed slightly when the. sphere e is placed on the body <I> a </I> and that its edge rests against the spherical part d. When assembly (the parts have been carried out, the edge s of part b of the body a is crimped against the outer surface of the sphere but er: leaving. However the necessary clearance # 4 to allow rotation (this sphere in its housing from which it can no longer come out after the above-mentioned crimping has been carried out.
The slight compression of the spring / 'is sufficient to push back constantly. the sphere against the crimped edge of the housing. <I> cl </I> without preventing the free rotation <B> (the </B> this sphere under the pressure of the fingers. which tighten the button q or the surface of the < # open circle.
This cover can be rotated horizontally. on itself because the spring is not attached to the appendix of the rf button and it can also oscillate in all directions while bending. the spring f as shown in fig. 3.
As a result of this simultaneous or successive rotation and oscillation of the cover, one. ob therefore holds without groping a greasy hole whatever the position of the body a because it always presents itself. one of the openings, q h, through which the oil can be introduced into the grease nipple, passing through this. orifice 31 the spout of the oil burette.
It is the same if the lubricator is, placed horizontally like repE # sEnt @@ f ^. 4, or in any tilted position between the horizontal and the vertical.
When the cover has been immobilized in the positions. fi-. 3 and 4, and that it is abandoned, it immediately returns to its. normal position finished. 1, under the action chi spring f. The closing is therefore automatic and its tightness is as perfect as that of a roc7Pe key. tap.
There is therefore no fear of oil leakage when the lubricator is in a horizontal or tilted position. In addition, any introduction of pusher or other foreign bodies will become impossible, which will prevent clogging of the lubricator.
This grease nipple can be constructed in any size, from tiny to large. The body will be able to affect all suitable shapes and capacities.
Depending on the types of grease nipples, the spring may be arranged differently. or be i cmplaced by any other kind of spring., which will act on the cover in such a way that it is automatically returned to its closing p, oF-itio: n; in this case, the cover will receive the appropriate arrangement for the spring used.
The cutouts h. will be in indefinite number @ and of any form.
The second model of lubricator is shown by fi.- ,. 5 and 6 in vertical section by the axis, to. two positions of its spherical neck. In this model, the cover is combined with a piston operating a constant pressure on the oil and performs automatic distribution.
For this purpose, the rod g crossing. the cover is. prc: lengthened and fitted, at the end. a piston formed by a crimped leather clamped between two discs j by a screw.
Before installing the piston, a <B> </B> coil spring; ' working on the extension is spun on the lower key part this rod it rests, on the one hand, against the piston. on the other hand, against the internal surface of the cover p.
The recess of the body a comprises: the upper spherical part in which the cover can turn in all directions; a central part i of cylindrical section clans which the piston slides under the action of the rTsscrt f 'and the narrowed outlet channel of' 'iiciile, which is threaded at its lower part to be screwed onto any device to be oiled.
The key dimensions the cylindri capacity i are. variables and depend on the flow rate that the oiler must have; the length of the rod (j is determined so that the operating button comes very close to the outer surface of the cover when the piston is at full stroke. The power of the spring f 'is calculated so that the piston exerts the necessary pressure on the oil until the end of its stroke.
To fill the oiler, the rod g is lifted by its button so as ï (, compress the spring by the piston and release the latter from its cylinder i, then at this time the rod is tilted so ( read said piston can come to rest at any point of the spherical cavity of the body b as seen in fig. fi. In this position, one of the notches in the edge of the cover is uncovered and allows passage to the spout of a burette including.
the content or part of it is allowed to flow into the oiler cavity. When the desired amount of oil has been poured on. straightens the rod so that the sphere e returns to its normal position and the piston returns to its cylinder. posi tion fig. 5.
The piston then operates a constant pressure on the oil locked in i and forces it to flow through the outlet channel to return to the part or parts to be lubricated.
The degree of depression of the rod q influences the position of the piston and the amount of oil remaining in the reservoir. This rod can be graduated to give more precise indications. or else the wall rie the apparatus which corresponds to the reservoir i may be made of glass. When it comes to large devices, they can. be fitted with a level indicator.
The model drawn is intended to achieve constant lubrication and, fast, but it can. be willing to produce, either. lubrication, drop by drop, by restricting the outlet channel accordingly, or intermittent lubrication at variable rate at will by inserting a valve, for example needle, on the channel.
In all applications. this model will always retain the tightness of the spherical cover and the automatic or induced closing of this cover after filling with lubricating oil.
The third model fi-. \ ï and 8 are specially designed to be drawn up in very small dimensions. The hollow cover of the two previous models = teeth is replaced by a solid sphere e 'pierced right through with a hole k (preferably conical) and provided with a projection -p constituting the operating button. This sphere is always enclosed in a hollow body b ', the edge of which is crimped after the insertion of the sphere in order to grip the latter.
On the other hand, the surface of said jrleine sphere e 'is, notched by flat skies m, m' arranged anglo right .. The flat <B> -in </B> is perpendicular to the axis of the hole h , while that ïya 'is parallel to this. axis. The p button is on the edge of the top of the. hole l, - and. on the opposite side to the flat <I> m. '. </I>
The Oil outlet pipe offers a (^ shoulder b 'to act as a support for, one end, of a coil spring n, the opposite end of which puts pressure on one yes on the other closed flats <I> m m. '</I> according to the orientation given to the spber.
For the wise filled with oil, the sphere is. placed so that the axis of the hole 7c coincides with the axis of the outlet pipe so. that the cradle of the oil burette can be inserted into the opening of this hole, and that the flat m. finds himself in a hurry by the res sort ??. position fig. 7.
.After filling. the button p is activated to make the sphere assume the position shown fi-. 8, in which the hole k is completely trapped inside 1, - ,, spbériqiie, and it is the flat m '. which is in contact with the spring n.
This third model is particularly applicable to bicycles, motorcycles and any other apparatus where the lubricators must have very small dimensions. The closure is just as perfect as in the hollow spherical lid models and the filling is also very easy.
