Description

Process for the preparation of son o-hydrazotoluene in solid Torau. The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of o-hydrazotoluene in solid form by electrolytic reduction of o-Niti-otol (iol, o-ilzoox @ ltoluene or o-azotoluene in the presence of alkali and a reducing metal,

whose oxide is soluble in alkali. The solid coating of o-hydrazotoluene and o-azotoluene that forms on the cathode during the electrolysis is removed mechanically from the cathode, so that the current can never suffer too much difficulty during the reduction process.

One of the metals that have already been proposed many times, such as nickel, iron or lead, can be used for the cathode. Nickel has proven to be particularly suitable for this purpose, especially when lead is to be used as a reducing metal. In this case, the mixture of azo- and hydrazotoluene that forms on the cathode and which is solid at 80 to 100 ° C. leaves smooth wipe off the nickel electrode.

Example: 20 bi, o-azotoluene, in 150 ccni sodium hydroxide solution full of 12 gusts (is suspended, finite 2 g lead oxide at 80 to 100 C with a stroke density of 11)

Amperes per square decimeter electrolyzed by a nickel cathode. A layer of o-fIvdrazotol (iol and o-azotoluene mixed with lead sponge, which can easily be removed mechanically from the electrode, soon forms on the

but is left in the suit for complete reduction. The finished product can be stirred with a little o-azotoluene for some time without electricity to remove the lead sponge. The o-hydrazotoluene obtained is filtered off.

The mechanical removal of the reduction product from the cathode can take place periodically or continuously, be it by the operation of a scraper, by oil pigs, or by some other mechanical process.

In the example given, o-nitrotoluene or o-azotoluene can be used in place of o-ilzotoluene with the same sequence, since internal o-azotoluene is constantly formed in the latter two grooves.
