Beschreibung
Die vorliegende Erfindung umfasst Verarbeitungs-Stabilisatoren für polymere organische Materialien, insbesondere homopolymere oder copolymere Kunststoffe und Mischungen solcher Materialien, die Mittel zur Verhinderung des hydrolytischen Zerfalls dieser Stabilisatoren enthalten.
Insbesondere Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonit-Stabilisatoren sind seit vielen Jahren bekannt und werden in grossem Massstab zur Stabilisierung von Kunststoffen gegen deren Schädigung durch Hitze, Oxidation und Alterung eingesetzt. Einer der meist bekannten, Phosphor-enthaltenden Stabilisatoren wird seit Jahren unter dem Handelsnamen «Sandostab PEPQ» weltweit verkauft und verwendet. Die genannten Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonit-Stabilisatoren sind jedoch nicht sehr hydrolysenstabil. Insbesondere wenn bei ihrer Einarbeitung in den zu stabilisierenden Kunststoff Reste von Polymerisationskatalysatoren (Aluminium-, Eisen- oder Zink-Rückstände von Friedel-Crafts-Katalysatoren) und/oder Spuren von Feuchtigkeit und/oder durch Korrosion oder Abrieb in den Apparaturen entstehende Metall-Partikel oder -Verbindungen (Ionen) anwesend sind, hydrolysieren die Phosphite, Phosphate und Phos-phonite und die entstehenden Zerfallsprodukte sind nicht nur für die Stabilisierung der Polymeren unwirksam, sie fördern auch deren Schädigung. Die bei der Hydrolyse der Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonit-Verbindungen entstehenden Verbindungen mit saurem Charakter (organische und anorganische Säuren und z.B. Phenol) bewirken eine teilweise Zerstörung der Polymeren, Bildung von Gel-Partikeln (insbesondere in Polyäthylen) oder Phosphor-enthaltenden schwarzen Punkten oder Flecken. Auch fördern die sauren Hydrolysenprodukte wieder die Korrosion der Appraturen, sie reduzieren auch die Wirksamkeit sterisch gehinderter Amine, die als Lichtstabilisatoren eingesetzt werden, und der phenolischen Antioxidantien, die als Langzeitstabilisatoren eingesetzt werden.
All diesen durch die Hydrolyse der Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonitverbindungen entstehenden Nachteilen kann sehr wirksam durch das Beimischen von sogenannten «Guard Agents», d.h. Schutzstoffen, entgegengewirkt werden.
Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonit-Stabilisatoren, die einen solchen Schutzstoff enthalten, genauer definiert als Verarbeitungs-Stabilisator für polymere organische Materialien, enthaltend a) ein oder mehrere Phosphonite der Formel I

Ri wie in Formel I, aber unabhängig davon, definiert sind, und, als wesentlichen Bestandteil,
c) N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin, sind Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung. Wohl ist schon bekannt, dass organische und anorganische Basen die Hydrolysentendenz von Trialkyl-phosphiten zurückdrängen (M.G. Imaev, Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii., Vol. 31, 1961, pp. 1767-70, US-PS 3 787 537, US-PS 3 553 298, FR-PS 1 528 387 und DE-OS 2 914 312). All die bekannten Amine weisen jedoch nicht die überragende Wirkung des erfindungsgemäss eingesetzten N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin auf, die für die Phosphite, Phosphate und Phosphonite der Formeln I und II, welche besonders leicht hydrolysieren, zum wirksamen Schutz der Polymeren nötig ist. Insbesondere bei den gemäss neueren Methoden mit Katalysatoren der II. bis V. Generation («Generation II to V-catylysts») hergestellten Polyolefinen, die nach der Polymerisation nicht aus dem Polymer entfernt werden, haben sich die erfindungsgemässen Stabilisatoren mit N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthy-lendiamin als Schutzstoff sehr bewährt. Die genannten Katalysatoren der II. bis V. Generation werden zwar häufig nach der Polymerisation durch Katalysatorgifte desaktiviert (z.B. durch Wasserdampf, aliphatische Alkohole, Aether oder Ketone), die Rückstände bleiben aber weiter in den Polymeren und fördern, wie der zu ihrer Desaktivierung verwendete Wasserdampf und andere Stoffe/Verbindungen, die Hydrolyse der Phosphit-, Phosphat- und Phosphonit-Stabilisatoren. Im Verlauf der Arbeiten, die zur vorliegenden Erfindung führten, wurde gefunden, dass speziell N,N,N',N',-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthy-lendiamin allen bekannten und bisher nicht bekannten Schutzstoffen gegen die Hydrolyse entscheidend überlegen ist.
Vorzugsweise werden pro 100 Gewichtsteilen Phosphit-, Phosphat- und/oder Phosphonit-Stabilisator 0,01, insbesondere 0,5 bis 5 Gewichtsteile N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin eingesetzt.
Vorzugsweise enthalten die erfindungsgemässen Stabilisator-Kompositionen, insbesondere diejenigen mit einer Verbindung der Formel I, bzw. einem Gemisch von Verbindungen der Formel I, auch eine oder mehrere Verbindungen der Formel IV und/oder V

Diese erfindungsgemässen Stabilisator-Kombinationen werden in einer Menge von 0,01 bis 5,0, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 2 Gewichtsteilen pro 100 Gewichtsteilen des zu stabilisierenden Polymers eingesetzt.
Die erfindungsgemässen Stabilisator-Kombinationen bestehen vorzugsweise aus 0 bis 99,99 Teilen einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel I, 0 bis 99,99 Teilen einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel II, 0,01 bis 5 Teilen N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin und 0 bis 10 Teilen einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel IV und/oder V, wobei alle Teile Gewichtsteile sind. Vorzugsweise enthalten diese Kompositionen mindestens 30 Teile einer Verbindung der Formel I, oder eines Gemisches aus solchen Verbindungen oder mindestens 30 Teile einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel II.
Insbesondere bevorzugt sind z.B. Kompositionen, die 30 bis 80 Teile einer Verbindung oder eines Gemisches aus Verbindungen der Formel I, 5 bis 60 Teile einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel II, 0,01 bis 2 Teile N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-thylendiamin und 0 bis 5 Teile einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel IV oder V enthalten.
Vor allem bevorzugt sind Stabilisator-Kompositionen, die 50 bis 85, insbesondere 65 bis 85 Teile Tetrakis-(2,4-di-tert.butylphenyl)-bisphenylendiphosphonit, 0,5 bis 1,5, insbesondere 0,75 Teile N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin,
5 bis 25 Teile Tris (2,4-tert.butyiphenyl)-phosphit,
10 bis 25 Teile Bis-(2,4-di-tert.butylphenyl)-biphenylen-monophosphit 0,5 bis 1,5 Teile 2,4-Di-tert.Butyl-phenoi enthalten.
Bevorzugte Reste R sind die Reste R', wobei diese Ci-22-Alkyl, Phenyl, das 1 bis 3 Substituenten aus der Reihe Cyan Ci-22-Alkyl, Ci-22-Alkoxy, Benzyl, Phenyl, 2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-piperidyl-4-, Hy-droxy, Ci-s-Alkylphenyl, Carboxyl-, C(CH3)2-C6H5, -COO-Ci-22-Alkyl, -CH2CH2-COOH, -CH2CH2-COO-Ci-22-Alkyl oder -CH2-S-Ci_22-Alkyl tragen kann; oder eine Gruppe der Formel i bis vii

Die vorliegenden Stabilisator-Kompositionen eignen sich insbesondere zum Stabilisieren von Polyole-finen, d.h. besonders für Polypropylen und alle Varianten von Polyäthylen (Hochdruck-, Mittel- und Niederdruck-Polyäthylen), Polyisobutylen, Poly-4-methylpenten und deren Copolymere. Als zusätzliche Stabilisatoren können für die Polymermassen u.a. Antioxidantien, z.B. sterisch gehindere Phenole, sekundäre aromatische Amine oder Thioäther (beschrieben z.B. in «Plastics Additives», Gächter und Müller, 1985, S. 8-12), UV-Stabilisatoren, z.B. sterisch gehinderte Amine (insbesondere N-unsubstituierte, N-Al-kyl- oder N-Acryl-substituierte 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidinverbindungen), UV-Absorber [insbesondere 2-(2'-Hydroxyphenyl)-benztriazolverbindungen, 2-Hydroxybenzophenonverbindungen, 1,3-Bis-(2'-hydroxy-benzoyl)-benzolsalicylate, Zimtsäurederivate und Oxalsäuredianilide], Antistatika, entflammungsverhin-dernde Mittel, Weichmacher, Nukleirmittel, Metall-Desaktivatoren, Biocide, Füllstoffe und Pigmente eingesetzt werden.
Die erfindungsgemässen Stabilisator-Kompositionen können den Polymeren Materialien vor, während und nach ihrer Polymerisation, in fester, geschmolzener, in Lösungsmitteln gelöster Form oder als Ma-sterbatches zugegeben werden. Die Lösungen enthalten im allgemeinen 10 bis 80% der Stabilisator-Komposition, die Masterbatches enthalten im allgemeinen ebenfalls 10 bis 80, vorzugsweise 40 bis 70% Stabilisator-Komposition, der Rest ist ein mit dem zu stabilisierenden Polymeren verträgliches Polymer.
Das Vermischen der Stabilisator-Kompositionen mit den zu stabilisierenden Polymeren wird nach üblichen Methoden durchgeführt, z.B. in geeigneten Mischern für geschmolzenes Material, in den Schmelzspinn- oder Folienblasmaschinen, im Extruder oder bei der Herstellung von Formgegenständen, Rohren, Fasern oder Schäumen.

Ausführunasbeispiele
In den folgenden Beispielen bedeuten, falls keine anderen Angaben vorliegen, die Teile Massenanteile und die Prozente Massenanteile in %. Die Temperaturen sind in Celsiusgraden angegeben.
Beispiel 1
Prüfung der Hydrolysestabilität von zwei Stabilisatorproben; Wirksamkeit von N,N,N'N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hy-droxypropyl)-äthylendiamin (THED): Die Stabilisator Kompositionen A und B basieren auf handelsüblichem Tetrakis-(2,4-di-tert.-butylphenyl)-biphenylen-diphosphit («Sandostab PEPQ», technisch von SANDOZ). In der Komposition A enthält der Stabilisator I etwa 0,08% Al3+ als Verunreinigung, in Komposition B enthält der Stabilisator etwa 0,11 %AI3+, das Aluminium stammt in der Praxis aus den Frie-del-Crafts-Kataiysatoren, die zur Herstellung der Diphosphonite verwendet werden.
Die Hydrolysen-Tests wurden unter strengen Bedingungen, bei 60° und 80% relativer Feuchtigkeit durchgeführt. Die einzelnen Proben wurden diesen Bedingungen ausgesetzt und von Zeit zu Zeit mittels HPLC-Analyse auf den Gehalt an 2,4-Di-tert.butyiphenol und nicht hydrolysiertem Stabilisator untersucht.
Tafel 1 illustriert die Wirkung der basischen Schutzstoffe und der Säurebinder (Ca-Distearat) bei der Verhinderung der Hydrolyse des Stabilisators. Die überragende Wirkung von THED als Base mit gewisser Polarität und Eignung zur Bildung von sehr stabilen Metallkomplexen ist nicht zu übersehen und von grösster Wichtigkeit.
Tafel 2 illustriert den beschleunigenden Einfluss der Aluminium-Unreinheiten auf die Hydrolyse des Stabilisators I und die überragende Wirkung von THED dank seiner basischen, polaren und sequestie-renden Eigenschaften.

Beispiel 2
Gemäss den Beispielen 2 und 3 wurden handelsübliche Polyolefine, die mit Katalysatoren der III. Generation hergestellt wurden, verwendet. Diese Polyolefine wurden nicht von den Katalysatoren (-Rückstände) gereinigt.
Stabilisierte Polypropylenproben wurden gemäss üblicher Methode hergestellt:

Diese Kompositionen (C und D) wurden in mehrere Proben aufgeteilt, bei erhöhter Temperatur und Luftfeuchtigkeit gelagert und nach wiederholter Extrusion bei 270° im (Göttfert-Extruder mit 20 mm 0 Schraube, Kompression 1:3, Durchmesser: Länge = 1:20) wurde der Melt-Flow-Index MFI (ASTM-D 1238-70) gemessen:

Bei Komposition C, ohne Hydrolysen-Schutzstoff, erhöht sich der MFI (0 Tage Standzeit) von 2,26 (1. Durchgang) auf 3,42 (5. Durchgang); nach 3 Tagen ist die Hydrolyse des Verarbeitungsstabilisators schon auf einen nicht mehr akzeptablen Wert von 11,36 (5. Durchgang) gestiegen. Dagegen erhöht sich der MFI der Hydrolysen-Schutzstoff-enthaltenden Proben bei 0 Tagen Standzeit zwar auch von 2,22 auf 3,41, jedoch nach 3 Tagen Standzeit nur von 2,35 (1. Durchgang) auf 3,58 (5. Durchgang), was in der Praxis durchaus tolerierbar ist.
Beispiel 3
Ähnlich Beispiel 2 werden Niederdruck-Polyäthylen-Proben hergestellt, gelagert und im Extruder behandelt.
Komposition E enthält
100 Teile Linear-Niederdruck Polyäthylen (d = 0,918 g/cm3 -Cs-Copolymer),
0,1 Teil Octadecyl-3-(3',5'-di-tert.butyl-4'-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat,
0,1 Teil Ca-Distearat und
0,15 Teile Stabilisator I (Bsp. 1, Tabelle 1, Probe a);
Komposition F enthält
100 Teile Polyäthylen (wie oben),
0,1 Teil Octadecyl-3-(3',5'-di-tert.butyl-4'-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat,
0,1 Teil Ca-Distearat und
0,15 Teile Stabilisator I (Bsp. 1, Tabelle 1, Probe e).
Diese Kompositionen E und F wurden wie im Beispiel 2 beschrieben, jedoch bei 240°, im Extruder behandelt, die Messwerte sind in der folgenden Tabelle 3 angegeben.

Der vorteilhafte Effekt des erfindungsgemässen Schutzstoffs (in Komposition F) ist im Vergleich der MFI-Werte von Komposition E, jeweils nach 3 Tagen Lagerung bei erhöhter Temperatur und Luftfeuchtigkeit klar ersichtlich, während die Differenz des MFI bei Komposition F zwischen 0 und 3 Tagen Lagerung, nach einem Extruder-Durchgang nur 0,13, also vernachlässigbar klein ist, beträgt dieselbe Differenz bei Komposition E 0,32. Die Quervernetzung bei Komposition E ist also nach 3 Tagen Lagerung schon sehr merklich stärker als bei Komposition F.
Auch die Vergilbung der erfindungsgemäss behandelten Polyolefine ist der ohne Schutzstoff stabilisierter Proben weit überlegen; nach ASTM-D 1925-70 (Yellowness Index) verglichene Proben zeigen eine deutliche Schädigung der Kompositionen C und E, während die Kompositionen D und F nach der Lagerung bei hoher Temperatur und Feuchtigkeit und mehrmaliger Extrusion nahezu unveränderte Werte zeigen.
Claims (1)
- Patentansprüche1. Verarbeitungs-Stabilisator für polymere organische Materialien, enthaltend a) ein oder mehrere Phosphonite der Formel Iworin m null oder 1,n null oder 1,alle R und Ri, unabhängig voneinander, eine von einem aliphatischen, alicyclischen oder aromatischen Alkohol mit einer oder zwei Hydroxylgruppen abgeleitete Gruppe sind, wobei jedoch, falls zwei Hydroxylgruppen vorhanden sind, diese nicht so angeordnet sind, dass sie einen Phosphor-enthaltenden Ring bilden können, oder die beiden R und/oder Ri bilden gemeinsam eine von einem aliphatischen, alicyclischen oder aromatischen Alkohol abgeleitete Gruppe, die zwei oder mehr Hydroxylgruppen trägt, die mit einem Phosphoratom einen Ring bilden können,Y ein Bindeglied der Formel -O-, -S-, -CH(Rs)- oder -C6H4-R5 Wasserstoff, Ci-s-Alkyl oder Ci-s-Alkoxycarbonyl bedeuten, und/oder b) eine oder mehrere Verbindungen der Formel IIm(I)(II),worin105101520253035404550556065CH 683 998 A5n null oder 1,na null oder 1 undR3 entsprechend der Bedeutung von na einen ein- oder zweiwertigen Formel I) sind und die beiden Ri wie in Formel I, aber unabhängig davon, definiert sind, c) N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin.2. Verarbeitungs-Stabilisator gemäss Anspruch 1, der zusätzlich und/oder V enthältR7OH (IV),R8(OH)2 (V),worinR7 einer monovalenten Gruppe der Bedeutung von R in Anspruch 1, und R8 einer divalenten Gruppe der Bedeutung von R in Anspruch 1 entspricht.3. Verarbeitungs-Stabilisator gemäss Anspruch 1 oder 2, worin pro 100 Gewichtsteilen einer oder mehrerer Verbindungen der Formel I und/oder II 0,01, vorzugsweise 0,5 bis 5 Gewichtsteile N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin eingesetzt werden.4. Verarbeitungs-Stabilisator gemäss Anspruch 1, 2 oder 3, mit 50 bis 85, insbesondere 65 bis 85 Teile Tetrakis-(2,4-di-tert.butylphenyl)-biphenylen-diphosphonit, 0,5 bis 1,5 insbesondere 0,75 N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-äthylendiamin, 5 bis 25 Teile Tris-(2,4-tert.butylphenyl)-phosphit, 10 bis 25 Teile Bis-(2,4-di-tert.butylphenyl)-biphenylen-monophosphit und 0,5 bis 10 Teile 2,4-di-tert.butylphenol.5. Nicht textiles polymeres Material, das pro 100 Gewichtsteilen 0,01 bis 5, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 2 Gewichtsteile einer Stabilisator-Kombination gemäss einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche enthält.Rest der Bedeutung von R (oben, und, als wesentlichen Bestandteil, eine Komponente der Formel IV11
