The present invention relates to a safety device
for a lever handle door of a room or apartment
for main residential use.
The most commonly used known safety devices
for this purpose are the locks and retaining chains. These dispo
sitives give satisfaction but pose certain problems inherent
rents to their installation and their operating system.
Thus, the modern security cylinder lock requires a
relatively precise special assembly compared to locks
ordinary, which can only be properly executed by a
specialist fitter. The cost of this service, added to that already high
of this type of lock, makes its installation expensive. Otherwise,
as sophisticated as it is, this modern lock does not prevent
however taking fingerprints, like all locks
manipulated from outside the room. As a result, a violation
home can be committed without a break-in can be
noted.
The internal retaining chain which allows a half-open
Controlling the door does not present this problem, but, on the other hand, requires drilling both the door and its frame for its installation and building managers only tolerate these works subject to the express replacement of these two elements when the tenants who moved it moved. This can be a serious handicap for low-income seniors who appreciate this kind of security, but who cannot contemplate the possibility of such an expense.
On the other hand, a chain of this type does not keep a door closed and a lock must be associated with it to ensure this last action. '
The safety device defined in claim 1, which makes it possible to immobilize, from inside a room, the lever handle of its access door, provides a solution to these problems in the sense that it does not require no installation operation on the door or on its frame, that it can be put in place without difficulty by the user himself and that he ensures in a firm and tamper-proof manner from the outside, the maintenance of the closed door.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention as well as a variant of one of its constituent elements.
Fig. 1 is an overall perspective view of the embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a partial longitudinal section thereof.
Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively a top view and a bottom view of the variant.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are three sections along the respective cutting axes A, B and C of FIG. 3.
The safety device shown in fig. I in its external appearance comprises an upright 1 of adjustable height, the tubular body 2 of which is seen to be extended by a sleeve 3, a base 4 in the form of an inverted frustoconical plate and a support which is here an operating button 5. The base 4 is shown engaged under a door 6 and the operating button 5 pressing under and against the lever handle 7 of this door, which constitutes the service position of this safety device.
The components of this device, which are described below, are mounted coaxially.
The tubular body 2, visible in section fig. 2, is a mild steel tube mounted press fitted into a central bearing 8 of the base 4.
The base 4, which is constituted by a frustoconical veil 9 secured to the central bearing 8, is made of molded light alloy, for example in Zamal.
A nut 10 made of mild steel is fixed by crimping inside the tubular body 2 of the upright and a threaded rod 11, also made of mild steel, is engaged in this nut.
The operating button 5, made of molded light alloy, is fixed at the end of the threaded rod 11 and comprises, for this purpose, a threaded bearing 12 in which the latter is blocked.
The sleeve 3 is a mild steel tube rigidly fixed on the bearing 12 of the operating button 5; it covers over a sufficient length the tubular body 2 around which it is mounted with smooth sliding in order to constitute an axial guide of the threaded rod 11. A pin 13 ensures the axial and radial immobilization of the threaded rod 11 and of the sleeve 3 on the operating button 5.
The upper face of the operating button 5 is covered with a plate 14 of non-slip material, for example rubber or flexible and rough plastic.
The height of the upright 1 of the device thus formed is adjustable by rotation of the operating button 5 which has the effect of driving the threaded rod 11 engaged in the nut 10 secured to the body 2.
The installation of this security device is very simple:
The height of the assembly is first of all adjusted slightly below the distance separating the handle 7 from the ground, then the base 4 is placed directly above the offset part of this handle and engaged under the door 6; finally, the operating button 5 is brought into rotation by pressing under and against the handle 7 with sufficient
firmness to avoid any risk of shaking and opening by manipulation of the handle from the outside.
Simple to implement using inexpensive products and materials, the safety device described offers, in addition to the advantages already mentioned, that of being inexpensive and affordable for the most modest purses.
By unscrewing, it can be disassembled in two parts and thus transported in a reduced size during trips during which it can be advantageously used in a hotel room or any other room in which the user wishes not to be inadvertently disturbed, isolate themselves or protect themselves.
Variations may be made.
Thus, the upright 1 adjustable in height connecting the base 4 to the support 5 can be made in any way allowing this adjustment. For example, one could consider making this amount in the form of the extendable element of a jack with a crank or lever, in which case the support 5 will be a simple flat plate or else slightly curved to partially coat the lever handle. the door.
The tubular sleeve 3, which has the effect of helping to guide the threaded rod 11, can be omitted insofar as the buckling resistance of the threaded rod 11 is ensured by sufficient dimensioning.
The base 8 can be designed in other forms and, for example, not have an inclined wall allowing its insertion under the door, because this feature is not essential vis-à-vis the main goal sought which is immobilization of the lever handle.
However, this feature is given as an exemplary embodiment because it contributes to strengthening the maintenance of the upright 1 in place and constitutes additional security by the retaining effect which it provides, in the case, for example, of forgetting to part of the user to bring the support 5 against the lever handle 7 of the door during the installation of the device, or even when he wants to reserve a last security after having half-opened the door to a stranger .
In the same spirit and with the aim of further extending the effectiveness of this base, it may be advantageous to produce one according to a variant shown in FIG. 3 and following.
In this variant, the upper face of the base 4 shown in FIG. 3 has projecting elements 15, 16 and 17 grouped in pairs at 1200 and the height of which is differentiated, as shown in FIG. 5 to 7, in order to counter the differences in gap that may be encountered between the floor and the lower edge of the door, and this so as to allow in all cases the blocking of the base under the door by choosing the sector that suits.
The underside of the base 4 shown in fig. 4 has retaining elements on the ground 18, 19 and 20 constituted, as for the operating button 5, by plates of non-slip material inserted and fixed in bowls carried by bosses 21, 22 and 23 of the base 4. These elements retainers on the ground are arranged directly above the projecting elements of the upper face of the base in order to best ensure its retention on the ground in the event of a violent push from the outside of the door when the latter is ajar .
The bowls of the bosses 21, 22 and 23 may be devoid of non-slip plates when used on a floor covered with a carpet, or any other floor with an elastic surface.
Of course, the number of projecting elements and retaining elements may be limited to one, and the same base may include only one or the other of these two types of elements.
Finally, the retaining element or elements will not necessarily be arranged vertically above the projecting element or elements. All possible combinations will be chosen according to the particular effects sought.
