Abstract
Appts. for recovering (virtually) water-insoluble solvents from air, operates by passing the air through an activated carbon adsorber, then desorbing this with steam, condensing the steam, then passing it to a separator, where the solvent is recovered by the difference in densities. The water resulting from this separation is recycled to the the boiler in which the steam is produced. Pref. the separator is below the adsorber vessel and above the steam generator, so that the condensed and sepd. water flows under gravity to the boiler esp. via a carbon dust filter. Water treatment equipment for maintaining the feedwater neutral or alkali may be provided. Used esp. for recovering perchlorethylene and trichloroethylene. No contaminated water is discharged to drains.
