Abstract
Hot gas from industrial stacks, carrying entrained water vapour and noxious pollutants e.g. formaldehyde, is fed to preliminary cooling section, +38 degrees, and thence to a condensation section, -1 degree C to -4 degrees C, where water and soluble contaminants are condensed and treated e.g. formaldehyde oxidised by hydrochlorite to formic acid for later utilisation. The non-water soluble constituents are filtered and absorbed e.g. on a molecular sieve, which may be regenerated by heat treatment, the treated gas is then vented to the atmosphere.
