The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of oxygenated derivatives of cyclohexene of formula
EMI1.1
in which the epoxidized side chain is linked to a carbon atom of the cyclohexene ring in position 1- or 2-, the index n denotes zero or I and R 1 represents an alkyl residue or a hydrogen atom.
It has been observed that the compounds of formula (I) have very interesting organoleptic properties and can therefore be advantageously used in the flavoring industry and in perfumery. They can in particular be used as perfuming and / or flavoring agents for the preparation of perfumes and perfumed and / or flavoring products for the flavoring of solid and liquid foods for humans and animals, of non-nutritive drinks and tobacco (see above). subject Swiss patent N "537380 (Swiss patent application N) 18233/70)).
The process of the present invention is characterized in that one condenses a myrcene epoxide of formula
EMI1.2
with a carbonyl compound of the formula
H, C = CH-CO (O) ,, R1 (III) in which the index n denotes zero or 1 and R1 represents an alkyl residue or a hydrogen atom, to obtain the compound of formula (I) previously described .
The condensation is preferably carried out in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone, for example, and by mixing the required reagents under an inert atmosphere, eg nitrogen. It is not necessary to use a particular condensing agent, said condensation already taking place under moderate conditions, at room temperature or even at temperatures below this one. The reaction time can be reduced by raising the temperature, generally working between 00 and 2000 C. By operating at temperatures below 0 ° C., the reaction time is then considerably increased.
However, at temperatures near the upper part of the above limits, undesirable side reactions can take place. The reaction will therefore be carried out, preferably at temperatures between 20 ° C. and 500 ° C.
When using methyl acrylate, for example, in order to prepare 1- (4-methyl-3,4-epoxypentyl) -4-methoxy-1-cyclohexene, it is preferable to carry out the reaction at temperatures of about 50 "C.
Myrcene epoxide, used as a starting material in the above-mentioned process, can be obtained according to the usual methods (see for example: Organite Reactions VII, p. 3789 John Wiley & Sons Inc., New York, 1953).
According to the process of the present invention, the compounds of formula (I) are obtained in the form of a mixture of positional isomers having the structures
EMI1.3
In addition, given the presence of the epoxy ring, the aforementioned positional isomers may exist as two structural stereoisomers
EMI1.4
The separation of the different isomers can be carried out ai
elution chromatography means, by distillation on
rotating band column or by separation of semi
corresponding carbazons.
The invention is illustrated in more detail by
following examples. In the said examples the temperature '
are indicated in degrees centigrade.

The myrcene epoxide used as a starting material in the above process can be prepared as follows: a mixture of 204 g (1.5 mol) of freshly distilled myrcene, 750 ml of CH2Cl2 and 150 was added during 1 hour. g of anhydrous sodium acetate. While maintaining the temperature between 20 and 250, a solution of 3 g of sodium acetate in 315 g (1.75 mole) of 42% peracetic acid was added dropwise over 1 hour. After continuing to stir for 4 hours, the sodium acetate was filtered off, washed 3 times with 125 ml of CH 3 Cl, and finally the filtrate was poured into ice water.
The organic phase was then successively treated with 2 portions of 125 ml of a saturated solution of Na 2 CO 3 and 3 portions of 125 ml of H2O. The washings were extracted with 250 ml of CH2Cl2. The combined organic extracts were concentrated under reduced pressure to provide a residue which, on distillation, provided 205 g of myrcene epoxide, b. 41-440 / 0.06 Torr; n20 = 1.4632; do = 0.887.
