Construction element
The main patent relates to a construction element, characterized by a layer of synthetic resin reinforced with glass fibers and a layer of a fire resistant material.
Construction elements are known comprising synthetic resin with a layer of a fire resistant sheet material bonded to or embedded in the synthetic resin. In use, these panels are subjected to temperature variations and the different coefficients of expansion of the synthetic resin and the fire resistant sheet material cause an adverse effect on the building element. Small cracks and blisters can occur in the resin and the weakening of the bond or fixation between the synthetic resin and the fire resistant sheet material can eventually lead to cracking of the laminate panel.
The building element object of the present invention is characterized in that it comprises support means in contact with the side of the fire-resistant sheet material remote from the resin layer, this sheet covering a surface of the resin layer. synthetic resin reinforced with glass fibers and being indirectly attached to this surface and support means connecting the resin layer to the support means, the support means being arranged so as to allow expansion of the synthetic resin reinforced by fiberglass. glass.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the construction element which is the subject of the present invention.

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the construction element shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line A-A of FIG. 3.

The construction element comprises:
a wooden frame 11 the overall dimensions of which are approximately 1.22 meters by 2.44 meters made of wood 10.16 cm by 5.08 cm with uprights 40.64 cm from the centers.
To this frame is fixed, by nailing, a layer 12 formed of an asbestos-based board 4.76 mm thick.
Circular holes 13, of appropriate diameter, are then cut in the asbestos-based plank at points adjacent to the wooden frame.
A layer of Gelcoat, comprising natural stone, sand dust, or other suitable filler such as waste glass grinding, powdered glass, coloring materials, alum and polyester resin Type Crystic 420 D is then poured into a mold and spread to form a layer which has a thickness between 0.794mm and 3.175mm. The total dimensions of the mold are practically the same as the wood frame.
A staple fiber glass reinforcing mat is unwound over the Gelcoat layer, and Crystic 323A polyester resin is poured onto the mat to form a reinforced layer with the Gelcoat layer.
The ends of the metal tapes 14, each having a partially circular arc 17 of 4.76 mm in radius, are then applied to the polyester laminate and then bonded to it with a notch or coating layer of polyester resin and a mat 15 of. glass fibers, so as to be embedded in the laminate.
The laminate 10, when partially cured, is removed from the mold. Then the wooden frame with the fixed asbestos-based plank 12 is placed on the back of the laminate, the light lining canvas 16 being placed between the asbestos-based plank 12 and the laminate, the light scrim and the plank 12 being provided with holes 13 at the necessary places to allow the tapes 14 to pass through them.
The free end of the metal tape is then nailed to the wood frame as shown. A slightly modified form of the metal strip 14 is shown in Figs. 6 and 7. A padding 18 of mineral wool or fiberglass is placed between the ver ticaur bodies 11 of the wooden frame. The uncoated side of the panel is then finished with a plastic board 19 or other suitable covering board.
In the arrangement shown, all of the tapes 14 are formed with arcs 17 so as to allow expansion of the laminate at all points. It may be found in some cases that this does not give a sufficiently precise position to the element around its edges and to overcome this the ribbons 14 at the periphery of the element can be rectilinear, without the arc 17 so that the movement of the element is limited to its edges although the inner ribbons 14 are provided with the arc 17 and thus still allow the expansion of the element.
Fig. 2 shows a joint between two construction elements of the type shown in FIG. 1. The edge 20, 14 of the panel 10, 15 is molded in the shape shown to provide a groove 21 in which a joint tape 24 can be placed. Wooden slats 22 are arranged at each edge of the element to which an adjacent element is to be joined. As shown in fig. 2, mastic 23 (eg that sold under the trademark Secomastic) is placed between the edges of adjacent panels 10, 15 and a stainless steel joint tape 24 is clamped in the capposed grooves 21. As shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, the upper part of each groove 21 is widened at 21 a.
The ends of each joint tape 24 protrude from their panel into the groove portion 21a of an adjacent panel, the additional width of the groove portion 21 allowing the tapes to overlap.
The lower part of the groove 21 in each panel can flare as shown at 21b (fig. 3) allowing the jointing tape (24) to extend downward in front of the upper end of a sealing tape. lower joint when panels are used for constructions of more than two storeys. It also directs all water out of the foundation at ground level.
The dimensions of the building element can be changed and can advantageously be up to 3.66 meters long by 3.05 meters wide. The building elements described can be used in all types of construction, but are particularly useful for the construction of houses.
The invention is not limited to the details of the preceding example. For example, instead of polyester resin, any other suitable synthetic resin can be used. Alum and coloring matter can be removed from the Gelcoat mix and can be replaced with other fire resistant fillers. Any suitable fire resistant material can be used in place of the asbestos-based plank which can vary in thickness to meet prevailing requirements. Likewise, any other trim pieces can be used in place of the wooden slats and the joint tapes can be formed from any other suitable material instead of stainless steel such as wood or aluminum. The panel can be constructed dwarf, by mechanical means, or by a combination of both.
Instead of the wooden frame, steel or other suitable load bearing material can be used to achieve the same purpose. Other variations can be used in place of mineral wool or fiberglass padding. Instead of metallic tapes, tapes of plastic or the like can be used.
In a variant (not shown) the partially circular arc 17 of the metal strip 14 is replaced by a fold of triangular shape.
