Apparatus for assembling a watch balance spring to its ferrule
The present invention relates to an apparatus for assembling a watch balance spring to its ferrule by means of a pin driven into a hole in the ferrule in which the inner end of the hairspring has been introduced beforehand.
The machines currently performing the ferrule proceed by gluing or by deformation of part of the ferrule.
These devices, because they perform delicate operations which have long been performed manually, are quite complex and require trained operators for their implementation.
Furthermore, the twisting by the aforementioned methods proves to be less reliable than that carried out by means of a pin.
To date, assembly with a pin is carried out by machines in the case of studding, but not in that of ringing. For this one, the tools used are relatively rudimentary.
The ferrule is fixed by its central hole on a ferrule holder tool, then the hairspring is introduced by hand into its fixing hole, then the pin is driven into the hole using a suitable instrument. During this operation, the hairspring is not kept flat with respect to the ferrule, and it may follow that the fitting is not carried out in the plane of the ferrule, which causes a twist of the hairspring close to its embedding which modifies the chronometric characteristics of the hairspring.
The object of the apparatus according to the invention is to remedy these drawbacks. I1 is characterized by the fact that it comprises, mounted on a frame, a rotating support around a vertical axis intended to support the ferrule and the balance spring, an arm mounted rotatably and carrying three pins intended to come to operate successively and respectively the positioning of the ferrule, the flattening of the hairspring on its support and the cutting of the pin, and a pin driving tool mounted on a mobile support and comprising a guide channel for the pin.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view.
Fig. 2 shows a detail view, in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the detail of FIG. 2.
The apparatus shown comprises a frame in the form of a bracket, the base 2 of which supports a support device 3 for the hairspring and the ferrule to be assembled and a driving tool 4 mounted on an oscillating arm 5. The ferrule is carried by a pin holder - conical flange movable axially in the center of the support 3 and can be retracted to release the ferrule, by means of a lever 6 returned by a spring 7. Part 3 of the support intended to support the balance spring is slightly conical to allow release the fitting hole of the ferrule by flattening the hairspring on this conical part.
The upper part of the stem carries a horizontal arm mounted rotatably and provided with a head 8 carrying three pins: a pin 9 for the positioning of the ferrule, a pin 10 for pressing the balance spring on the support 3 and a pin 1 1 carrying a knife 12 for cutting the protruding part of the pin after it has been driven into the ferrule. One acts on each of the pins by handles 13, 14 and 15. The nuts 16, 17 and 18 make it possible to adjust the axial travel of the pins which are returned to the rear by springs 19, 20 and 21.
The positioning pin has a flat end 22, provided with an eccentric lug intended to engage in the elasticity slot of the ferrule in order to bring the latter into a determined position when the pin is rotated. A finger 23, abutting against a stop 24, ensures a determined and constant positioning of the shell.
The ferrule 25 and the spiral 26 are visible in FIGS. 2 and 3.
The support 3 has a slot in which a finger 27, in the form of a blade, of the driving tool 4 engages in order to immobilize the support 3. The tool 4 has a V-shaped groove 28, for guiding the pin 29 in the direction of the hole in the shell.
Driving in is carried out by manual pressure on the handle 30 returned to the rear by a spring.
A splined wheel 31 makes it possible to drive the support 3 in rotation with a view to controlling the development of the flattening and the centering of the hairspring.
In summary, the operations are carried out in the following order: placement of the ferrule on its pin, installation of the hairspring and introduction of the end of the hairspring into the hole in the ferrule, positioning of the ferrule by means of of the spindle 9, the support 3 being of course immobilized by the tool 4, flattening of the hairspring on its support by means of the spindle 10 to release the hole from the ferrule, driving out of the pin using the tool 4, cutting the pin by means of the spindle 11 and checking the development of the hairspring, the tool 4 being fixed to the side.
The apparatus described is manually controlled but its automatic control, by means of synchronized cams for example, can easily be carried out by those skilled in the art.
