Process for improving the dye affinity of the polypropylene fibers and fibers obtained
The present invention relates to a process for improving the dye affinity of polypro pyrene fibers and to the fibers obtained by this process.
The treated polypropylene fibers can be monofilaments or multifilaments, and can be in the form of threads or fabrics.
Since the polypropylene fibers are formed by a hydrocarbon, they do not present any attachment points for the dyes and are therefore difficult to dye.
Among the known processes which make it possible to solve this problem, there are grafting processes which consist in grafting onto polypropylene fibers one or more polymerizable monomers having affinity for dyes.
These grafts can take place under the action of heat, under the action of bodies producing free radicals, by irradiation, by the action of oxygen or finally by that of ozone.
A process for grafting, by pre-ozonization, of a copolymer of an acidic monomer with a basic monomer, onto polyolefin fibers, is described in French patent No. 1,233,697, for example.
Whatever the grafting process used, the intensity and the stability of the colorations which can be obtained depend on the nature of the monomer (s) and on the amount of this or these grafted monomers.
It has heretofore been accepted that, in order to obtain colors of good intensity, it is necessary to graft onto the fiber at least 5 h 10 X by weight of monomer relative to the initial weight of the fiber.
There is therefore a consumption of monomers which is not negligible and which significantly increases the cost price of the fiber. On the other hand, the presence of @@ an @@@ és @@@@@ imper @@@@@@ s of @ @@@, profoundly different from @@ @@ who @@ nstitu @ @@@@@ , has negative repercussions on the qualities of @ @@@@@@.
This is how there is an increase in fiber content, as will be shown later.

In addition, the treated firemen containing due to small amounts of @@@@@@@@@@, they are therefore not fragile.
Among the phenols, thiophenols and aromatic amines which can be used to carry out the invention, there will be mentioned 2,6-bis (tert.) - butyl-4-methyl-p @ é @@@, dicresylolpropane, 2,2'- methylene-bis (4-methyl-6-tert.butyl-phenol), N, N'-dinaphthyl-para-phenylene-diamine, N, N'-diphenyl-para-phenylenediamine, thiophenol and 2,2 '-thio-bis (4-methyl-6-tert. butyl-phenol).
The amount of this substance present in or on the polypropylene fiber, before ozonization, is usually between 0.001 and 2% based on the weight of the fiber and preferably between 0.05 and 0.5%.
This amount depends on the tacticity of the polypropylene, the ozonization conditions, the nature of the grafted monomers and the method of incorporation before spinning or after spinning in a solution.
The monomers to be grafted in order to improve the dye affinity of polypropylene fibers are well known to those skilled in the art. Mention will more particularly be made of acrylic and methacrylic acids and their derivatives such as esters, nitriles or amides, and vinylidene monomers, in which the molecule comprises a nitrogenous heterocycle such as vinyl-pyridines.
