Process for the preparation of pyrimidine dyes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of water-soluble dyes containing at least one trihalogenated pyrimidine ring, which consists in having organic compounds which have at least one hydroxyl group and also at least one substituent capable of forming azo dye , with 2,4,5,
6-tetrahalopyrimidine is reacted and the reaction products obtained are converted into water-soluble dyes by azo coupling.
2,4,5,6-Tetrabromopyrimidine and in particular 2,4,5,6-tetrachloropyrimidine are suitable as 2,4,5,6-tetrahalopyrimidines.
The new method can e.g. B. be carried out so that one in the molecule at least one hydroxyl group and also a diazotizable amino group or a diazotizable amino group-containing substituents with 2,4,5,6-tetrahalopyrimidine reacts, optionally in the intermediate Substituents converted into an amino group,
the latter is diazotized and the diazo compound is coupled with a coupling component to form a water-soluble dye, or that a coupling component containing at least one hydroxyl group and also a coupling capable carbon atom in the molecule, eg. B. a dihydroxy compound, reacted with 2,4,5,6-tetrahalopyrimidine and the intermediate product obtained is coupled with a diazo compound to form a water-soluble dye.
Of course, the diazo compound can also be coupled from a diazo component containing a trihalopyrimidyloxy group with a coupling component which also contains a trihalopyrimidyloxy group.
Organic compounds of the type mentioned are, for example, diazo components such as 3- or 4-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 2-amino-4-hydroxy-benzene-1-sulfonic acid, 3- or 4-amino-1 - ((3-hydroxy-ethoxy) -benzene 2-aminobenzene-l-sulfonic acid-4-sulfonic acid- (3-hydroxy-ethylamide or -4-carboxylic acid-s-hydroxyethylamide,
3-Amino-4-chloro- or -4-methylbenzene-1-sulfonic acid-ß-hydroxyethyl amide or -N-methyl-N-ß-hydroxyethyl amide, 2-amino-5-hydroxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid or - 1,7-disulfonic acid and coupling components such as N-methyl-N-ss-hydroxyethylbenzene, N-methyl-Ny-hydroxypropylbenzene, 1,3-dihydroxybenzene,
2-amino- or 2- (2 ', 4', 6'-trimethylphenylamino) -5-hydroxynaphthalin-7-sulfonic acid, 1- (4'-hydroxyphenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1- ( 8'-Hydroxy-naphthyl-2 ') - 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-6'-sulfonic acid etc.
The reaction of the compounds used as starting materials with 2,4,5,6-tetrahalopyrimidine is preferably carried out in an aqueous medium. The halide can be used as such in concentrated form or else dissolved in an organic solvent. Particularly suitable solvents for the tetrahalopyrimidines are acetone, benzene, chlorobenzene and toluene.
The reaction temperatures are advantageously adapted to the reactivity of the individual starting products; it preferably varies between 0 and 100 C. If temperatures higher than about 40 have to be used, it is advisable, with regard to the steam volatility of the tetrahalopyrimidines, to work in closed vessels, possibly equipped with a reflux cooler.
The reaction is preferably carried out in an alkaline medium. To neutralize the resulting one equivalent of hydrogen halide, an acid-binding agent such as sodium or potassium carbonate, sodium, potassium, calcium or barium hydroxide in solid, powdered form or as an aqueous solution can be added to the reaction solution at the beginning or during the reaction. The addition of small amounts of a wetting agent or emulsifying agent to the reaction mixture can accelerate the conversion reaction.
The reaction is conducted in such a way that only one halogen atom of the 2,4,5,6-tetrahalopyrimidine reacts with the exchangeable hydrogen atom of the hydroxyl group.
After the condensation has ended, the product obtained can be used as a diazo or azo component without isolation; However, it is often more advantageous for the quality of the dyes to be produced to salt it out with sodium or potassium chloride from its previously neutralized solution or suspension or to precipitate it with acid, then suction it off, wash it neutral with a brine, and optionally dry it.
The diazotization of ver usable as diazo components a diazotizable amino group and a trihalopyrimidyloxy group containing inter mediate products can in the usual manner at low temperature, for. B. between 0 and 20 C, preferably at 0 - IO C, performed.
The coupling of the diazo compounds thus obtained with suitable azo components to form water-soluble azo dyes is advantageously carried out in an aqueous or aqueous-organic medium with an acidic, neutral or alkaline reaction and at the lowest possible temperatures in order not to damage the reactive trihalopyrimidyl group.
The finished azo dyes can be salted out from the optionally neutralized coupling solution or suspension with sodium or potassium chloride or precipitated with acid, then filtered off with suction, washed neutral with a brine and dried.
The water-soluble dyes carrying at least one trihalogen pyrimidyloxy group according to the invention are suitable for dyeing, padding and printing fibers of animal origin, eg. B. wool, silk, synthetic polyamide fibers, e.g. B. nylon, leather, cellulose fibers, e.g. B. cotton, linen and regenerated cellulose fibers, e.g. B. Viskosereyon, Kupferreyon, rayon and from Ge mix and / or structures made of these fibers.
The optimal application conditions vary depending on the type of fiber and the dyes used. Animal fibers and synthetic polyamide fibers are preferably dyed in an acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline medium and printed or fixed, e.g. B. in the presence of acetic acid, formic acid, sulfuric acid, ammonium sulfate, sodium metaphosphate, etc. You can also in the presence of leveling agents such. B.
polyoxyethylated fatty amines or mixtures thereof with alkyl polyglycol ethers, color acetic acid to neutral and at the end of the coloration the bath by adding small amounts of an alkaline agent such. B. ammonia, sodium bicarbonate, soda, etc., or compounds which react alkaline in the heat, z. B. hexamethylenetetramine, urea, blunt to a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction. This is followed by thorough rinsing and, if necessary, acidified with a little acetic acid.
When dyeing and printing fibers and structures of animal origin and fibers and structures made of synthetic polyamide, depending on the reactivity of the dye, there is often a less pronounced bond between the dye molecule and the fiber, in that the dyes have an affinity, partly thanks to their acidic character to own fiber.
The dyeing, padding and printing or fixing of the dyes on cellulose fibers is advantageously carried out in an alkaline medium, e.g. B. in the presence of sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, caustic soda, potassium hydroxide, sodium metasilicate, sodium borate, trisodium phosphate, ammonia, etc. To avoid reduction phenomena, mild oxidizing agents such as 1-nitrobenzene are often beneficial when dyeing, padding or printing the fibers 3- Sodium sulfonic acid added.
In the case of cellulose fibers, too, the dyes are usually fixed in the heat. Thanks to their good reactivity, the dyes according to the invention can, when using sufficiently strong alkalis, such as sodium or potassium hydroxide or trisodium phosphate, even at low or moderately elevated temperatures, e.g. B. at 20 - 40 C, can be fixed.
The dyeings and prints on cellulose fibers are particularly notable for their excellent wet fastness properties. These are based on the formation of a stable chemical bond between the dye molecule and the cellulose molecule. Often not all of the dye takes part in the chemical reaction with the fiber. The proportion of the unreacted dye is removed from the fiber in these cases by suitable operations, such as rinsing and / or soaps, possibly using higher temperatures, with synthetic detergents, such as.
B. alkylarylsulfonates, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl polyglycol ether sulfate and alkyl polyglycol ethers and mono- and dialkyl phenyl polyglycol ethers are used.
Pyrimidine dyes containing more than one trihalogen pyrimidyloxy group, e.g. B. each carry a trihalopyrimidyloxy group in the diazo and in the azo component, naturally fix to a greater extent on the fiber than pyrimidine dyes with only one trihalopyrimidyloxy group.
In the following example, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 10 parts of 1-hydroxy-3-aminobenzene are dissolved in 48 parts of acetone with the addition of 20 parts of 5% sodium hydroxide solution. The mixture is cooled to 2 and a solution of 22 parts of 2,4,5,6-tetrachloropyrimidine in 32 parts of acetone is run in within 1 1/2 hours. At the same time, 13 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise so that a weakly alkaline phenolphthalein reaction is constantly present. The mixture is then stirred for 15 minutes at 2 - 5, after which it is neutralized with a little hydrochloric acid.
Most of the acetone is then evaporated off in vacuo at a temperature not exceeding 5, 100 parts of ice-cold water are added while stirring and the mixture is subjected to Congo-acidic reaction with 12 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid. After stirring for 30 minutes at 5, the condensation product separates out. It is filtered off, washed with water and pressed well, whereupon the content of 1-trichloropyrimidyloxy-3-aminobenzene is determined by titration with 1N sodium nitrite solution.
The amount of the filter cake corresponding to 14.5 parts of 1-trichloropyrimidyloxy-3-aminobenzene is mixed with 250 parts of ice-cold water to form a fine suspension, and 20 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid are added. A solution of 3.5 parts of sodium nitrite in 25 parts of water is then added dropwise at a temperature of 5-10. When the diazo has ended, the suspension of the diazo compound formed is combined with an ice-cold solution of 20 parts of 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4,6-disulfonic acid and 25 parts of sodium carbonate in 200 parts of water.
After the coupling has ended, the monoazo dye formed is precipitated using common salt, then filtered off, optionally undissolved, dried and ground. It is an orange-red water-soluble powder that dyes cotton and fibers made from regenerated cellulose in very wet-fast scarlet red tones.
Dyeing prescription 100 parts of cotton sateen are padded in 1000 parts of a 3% neutral solution of the dye obtained above at room temperature, squeezed off to 2 to 2.5 times the dry weight and dried. A developing bath is then placed in an open jigger, which contains 10 g / l sodium carbonate and 240 g / l Glauber's salt and has a temperature of 80 to 90. The padded goods are treated in this bath for 15 to 30 minutes.
It is then rinsed thoroughly with cold water, then soaped at the boil for 10 minutes in a bath containing 3 gll soap and 2/1 sodium carbonate, rinsed again with water and dried. The scarlet coloration obtained is very wetfast and good lightfast. If, in this example, 40 parts of 2,4,5,6-tetrabromopyrimidine are used in places of 22 parts of 2,4,5,6-tetrachloropyrimidine, a dye with similar properties is obtained.
