So zeigt z.

Preservatives It is known for the preservation of ver perishable substances such. B. formic acid, acetic, propionic, sorbic, benzoic, p-chlorobenzoic acid or hydroxy-benzoic acids to be used.
In addition, the use of Pyrokohlens'äureestern as a preservative for perishable substances be written. (DBP 1011709) The invention relates to the use of mixed anhydrides as preservatives for perishable substances. The gel-mixed anhydrides used correspond to the following formula:
EMI0001.0021
R1 and R ,, are different organic radicals, one of the radicals. R1 orR can also be a substituted oxy radical - OR .; -be. Here, R1, R. and R .; z.
B. be:: alkyl radicals such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, i-propyl, tert-butyl, sorbityl, or cycloalkyl radicals such as cyclohexyl, also aryl and aralkyl radicals such as phenyl, benzyl, cinnamoyl or heterocyclic radicals.
The mixed anhydrides to be used as preservatives according to the invention are prepared by known processes, e.g. B. by reacting carboxylic acids with a Chlorko lens'äureester in the presence of a base or .auch by reacting a carboxylic acid salt with a carboxylic acid chloride.
For use: the proposed preservatives are added to the substances to be preserved as such or in the form of a solution and, if necessary, mixed intimately with the substances. The required amounts of preservatives can be easily determined from case to case by preliminary tests; in general, amounts of 0.01-1% based on the amount of the substance to be preserved are sufficient.
With the means proposed according to the invention it is possible to preserve perishable substances of vegetable or animal origin in an advantageous manner. The substances that can be preserved according to the invention include, in particular, substances containing carbohydrates, such as B.
Fruit pulp, fruit extracts or fruit juices and drug extracts; also casein and other proteinaceous substances, as well as injection solutions and other pharmaceutical or cosmetic preparations of a perishable nature.
The preservatives according to the invention are distinguished from others in that they can initially act as acylating agents and, after hydrolysis in the substrate with the released carboxylic acid, can develop a further antimicrobial effect in a known manner.
The effect: the carboxylic acid formed by hydrolysis distinguishes the process according to the invention above all from the use of pyrocarbonic acid esters. The acylation effect of the to be used according to the invention. She places substances above the mere use of carboxylic acid. So shows z.
B. Sorbic acid ethyl carbonic anhydride against Penicillium glaucum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae is more effective than sorbic acid alone.
The preservatives according to the invention allow: a preservation: with smaller amounts of such: substances, without thereby impairing the preservation of the product to be preserved. would be impaired. So z.
B. when using the mixed anhydride from ethyl carbonic acid and sorbic acid for the preservation of orange juice with a dosage of 0,
03% are worked. The same effectiveness can only be achieved with an amount of 0.05% with normal use of sorbic acid. The saving in sorbic acid results from the decomposition of the mixed ahydride into sorbic acid, carbonic acid and alcohol.
The sorbic acid content is finally 0.018%, instead of 0.05% for: direct use.
The parts given in the following examples are parts by weight.
Example 1 100 parts of a cough syrup based on dextrose and maltose, which contains about 20 parts of dextrose, 5 parts of maltose, in addition to cough-relieving agents, of pH 5.5 with 0.03 parts of sorbin acid-ethyl-carbonic anhydride in 0.3 parts abs. Alcohol added. After the preservative has been well distributed, the preparation is placed in a closed container,
stored at room temperature.
The product preserved in this way is still unchanged after 30 days, while a control batch without preservatives shows strong signs of fermentation after just one day.
The same cough syrup to which 0.03 parts of pyrohlenic acid ethyl ester was added shortly before it was filled, only remains sterile as long as the cough syrup bottle remains closed. After opening the bottle, it shows signs of fermentation and surface mold after about 48 hours.
Example 2 100 parts of apple pulp with 10% sugar content and a pH of 4 are mixed with 0.06 parts of acetic acid-ethyl carbonic acid anhydride and then sealed. The goods treated in this way prove to be extremely well preserved.
Apple pulp, which was mixed with 0.1 part of pyrocarbonic acid diethyl ester and placed under lock and key, shows mold growth on the surface after 10 days, even if the container is not opened.
Example 3 100 parts of orange juice with a pH of 4.5 and a sugar content of 8% are mixed with 0.03 parts of sorbic acid-acetic anhydride and immediately sealed. The juice preserved in this way shows after prolonged storage at temperatures between 20 and 30,
1 C no fermentation or mold growth. Unpreserved counter samples are fermenting after 48 hours and surface mold will set in within a further 3 days.
To prepare the sorbic acid-acetic acid anhydride: 45 g of anhydrous sodium acetate are boiled, suspended in 100 ml of abs. Toluene, with 65 g of sorbic acid chloride under reflux for 4 hours. After adding 300 ml of ether, the cooled reaction mixture is shaken with 5,
0% soda solution. The anhydride boils at 77-78o / 0.3.
