Tool holder for machine tool, in particular for diamond cutting machine tool In ordinary machine tools, the cutting tool is carried by a headstock or by any other suitable device, rigidly fixed to the frame of the machine.
This is adjusted in such a way that the machining takes place in a determined relative position of its various members. In a series job, if the parts to be worked have differences in dimensions, a simple machine - with the exception of a copying machine - will not be able to take this into account, so that these differences in dimensions will result in differences in machining.
This would be the case in particular during the machining, with diamonds, of decorative patterns on articles of jewelry. If the thickness of the latter would vary, the depth of the engraved patterns would also vary.
The tool holder according to the invention is characterized by a frame which is fixed to the machine, by a mobile tool support, able to move relative to said frame, and which is subjected to the action of a return device. tending to maintain it in a determined position, and by a retractable feeler, carried by the support, everything so that, when the blade comes into contact with the workpiece,
there is a displacement of the support relative to the frame, against the action of the return device, the retraction of the probe then allowing the tool to come into contact with the workpiece, during a reverse displacement of the support due to the action of its return device.
The drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation view thereof. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation, from behind.
Fig. 3 in. is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 is a section along line IV IV of fi g. 1, and the fi- . 5 is an elevational view of a detail, with partial section.
The tool holder shown is intended to be attached to a sleeve 1 of a machine tool. It comprises a frame 2 which is fixed, by means of a screw 3, to the sleeve 1. This frame 2 carries, articulated on it using a socket 4, a tool support consisting of a arm 5 on which is mounted a bush 6 carrying a rotary spindle 7 provided with a diamond bur 8 (fig. 3).
A coil spring 9 (fig. 2), working in compression, bears on the frame 2 and acts on a pusher 10 to press it against the arm 5 and maintain an extension 5a of this last applied against a stop screw 11 carried by a terminal nose 2a presented by the frame 2.
Thus, by tightening the screw 11 more or less, the relative position between the frame 2 and the arm 5 is modified, the position in which the return spring 9 tends to hold the support.
The drive of the spindle 7 carrying the milling cutter 8 is provided by the shaft 12 of the machine, rotating in the sleeve 1. For this purpose, this shaft carries a pulley 13 (FIG. 4) driving, by a belt 15 , a pulley 16 carried by a shaft 17 rotating in the sleeve 4.
This shaft carries, at its opposite end, a second pulley, designated by 18; this one is connected; by a belt 19 (fig. 3 and 4), to a pulley 20 carried by the end of the spindle 7 opposite to that which carries the tool 8.
The shafts 12, 17 and the spindle 7 being parallel to each other, the arm 5 can swing around the shaft 17 during the rotation of the tool.
The tool holder further comprises a feeler constituted by a ring 21 in which is formed a passage 22 (FIG. 5), riveted at 23 on a lever 24 integral with a pin 25 mounted to rotate on the arm 5. It It should be noted that this articulation axis 25 is parallel to the axes of the spindle 7 and of the shaft 17. It carries, at its opposite end, a control lever 26, itself carrying, at its free end , a stop screw 27.
A coil spring 28 (fig. 2), hooked to the lever 26 on the one hand and to the arm 5 on the other hand, maintains the screw 27 applied against a control cam 29 rotatably mounted on the posterior extension 5a. Of the arm 5 This cam is integral with a control chicken 30 (fig. 3), provided with a graduated scale 31 moving in relation to an index, not visible in the drawing, carried by part 5a of arm 5.
When the chicken 30 is actuated, the cam 29 which acts on the screw 27 is rotated to move the lever 26, and therefore the ring 21, in the direction of arrow 32 (fig. 5). The feeler formed by the ring 21 is thus retracted.
The tool holder described and shown operates as follows During the advance movement of the machine, causing the tool to come closer to the workpiece, by a movement either of the sleeve 1 or of the door table -part 34, shown schematically, the feeler 21 comes into contact with the workpiece designated by 35.
The adjustment of the machine is such that the advance does not cease at this time so that, if parts of the same series have irregularities in their thickness, the contact can be made even for the -more thin of them.
This advance continuing while the feeler 21 is in contact with the part 35, the arm 5 is moved relative to the frame 2, against the action of the return spring 9, this arm rotating around the bush 4. Once this advance movement is complete, the control chicken 30 is acted manually to cause the lifting of the lifter 21, which causes the tool to engage the part 35.
The value of the displacement of the blade, variable according to the rotation that is imparted to the chicken 30, determines the depth of the machining. In fact, as the feeler 21 rises, the arm 5 advances, under the action of the return spring 9.
As a variant, provision could be made for the case where the escalation of the probe 21, that is to say the sinking, will occur automatically and not by manual control.
It should be noted that the passage 22 of the probe 21 can be obtained by the cutting tool 8 itself, the ring 21 being first mounted solid on the tool holder.
The tool holder described not only makes it possible to work series of parts of irregular dimensions, without intermediate adjustment or visual control, but also, by simple means, to dig a furrow of constant depth in the workpiece, which itself serves as a template. Indeed, if the room,
once the sinking has been carried out, the side is moved relative to the cutting tool, the latter follows the relief of the part, even if the latter is of non-symmetrical shape (curved or concave for example), or if it presents irregularities in dimensions or leveling, the arm 5 then tilting around the shaft 17, so that the depth of the engraving remains constant.
