Process for the production of metal-containing azo dyes The present invention provides a process for the production of metal-containing azo dyes, which preferably have the formula
EMI0001.0005
correspond, in which B-y- is the radical of an azo component coupled ortho to the substituent y, z is one of the groups -O- or -C00-, y is one of the groups -0-,
NH- or -NR-, where R stands for an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical which may carry nonionic substituents, Me a trivalent metal atom, D the radical D ', a radical of the same formula different from D' or the radical a metallizable mono- or disazo dye of any composition, and n is one of the numbers 1 or 2.
The core A can carry further substituents with the exception of sulphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that a monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0036
where B-y-H is the radical of an azo component coupling in the ortho position to the substituent y-H, x is a substituent which enables metal complex formation,
yH is a hydroxyl group or a primary or secondary amino group in the ortho position to the -N = N group, and n is one of the numbers 1 or 2, or a derivative of such a dye in which the core A has further substituents, with the exception of sulfonic acid and carboxylic acid groups, inert,
or a mixture of two or more different monoazo dyes of the formula (II) or a mixture of at least one monoazo dye of the formula (II) and one or more other metallizable monoazo dyes or one or more metallizable disazo dyes with a metal off treated in such a way that a metal-containing azo dye is formed,
which contains essentially one metal atom bound to two molecules of monoazo compound or to one molecule of monoazo compound and one molecule of disazo compound each in a complex.
In the metallization you can, for. B. proceed so that initially 1: 1 chromium or cobalt complex compounds are formed, of which about 1 mol is reacted with about 1 mol of one or more metallizable mono- or disazo dyes in such a way that a metal-containing azo dye is formed,
which essentially contains one metal atom bonded to two molecules of monoazo compound or to one molecule of monoazo compound and one molecule of disazo compound each in a complex manner.
The substituent x of the diazo component which enables metal complex formation is preferably a hydroxy, a methoxy or a carboxy group. Of the substituents which the nucleus A can carry are, for.
B. to mention: halogen atoms (chlorine, bromine), nitro, acetylamino, propionylamino, benzoylamino, carbomethoxyamino, carbethoxyamino, methyl, ethyl, tert. Butyl, methoxy, sulfonic acid amide, sulfonic acid methyl amide, sulfonic acid dimethyl amide, sulfonic acid (2'-hydroxy) ethyl amide, sulfonic acid di (2'-hydroxyethyl)
-amid-, sulfonic acid hydroxypropylamide, sulfonic acid methoxypropylamide, sulfonic acid ethoxyethyl amide, sulfonic acid phenylamide, sulfonic acid methyl or -chlorophenyl amide, sulfonic acid-N-methyl-N-phenylamide-, sulfonic acid-N-hydroxyethyl-N-phenylamide-, and methylsulfonyl -OC-CH = CH-COOH group.
As azo components, for. B. contemplated: hydroxybenzenes, hydroxynaphthalenes, aminonaphthalenes, alkylamino-, cycloalkylamino-, aralkylamino- and arylaminonaphthalenes, 1-aryl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones, acylacetylaminoalkanes, acylacetylaminobenzenes and acylacetylaminonaphthalenes.
These azo components can have the same substituents as the diazo components, the —NH — OC — CH — CH — COOH group being considered as a preferred substituent.
The monoazo dyes of the formula (1I) to be used as starting substances can be prepared by the methods customary in azo chemistry.
The conversion of the monoazo dyes and their mixtures with other mono- or disazo dyes into the metal complex compounds is preferably carried out with compounds of chromium and cobalt.
The metallization is advantageously carried out in an aqueous solution or in an organic medium, for example in formamide, dimethylformamide or ethyl glycol or in the concentrated aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid. It is advantageous to allow an amount of a metal donor containing less than two, but at least one atom, to act on two molecules of monoazo dye.
Suitable compounds of chromium are, for. B. chromium fluoride, chromium sulfate, chromiformate, chromium acetate, potassium chromium sulfate or ammonium chromium sulfate. The chromates, e.g. B. sodium or potassium chromate or bichromate, are suitable in a züglicher way for the metallization of the mono azo dyes.
It is advantageous to work here in a strongly alkaline medium, it being possible to add reducing substances if necessary.
As cobalt compounds z. B. cobalt formate, cobalt acetate and cobalt sulfate. If the metallization is carried out in the concentrated aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, water-insoluble metal compounds can also be used, for example cobalt hydroxide and cobalt carbonate.
It is particularly advantageous to carry out the metallization in an aqueous or alkaline medium, the metal compounds being added in the presence of such compounds which keep the metals in complex binding ge dissolved in caustic medium, such as. B. tartaric acid, citric acid and lactic acid.
The metal complex compounds obtained are separated from the aqueous medium by adding salt, if appropriate after pouring the organic metallization solutions into water, then filtered off, if appropriate washed and then dried.
The metal-containing azo dyes obtained are metal complex compounds in which essentially one atom of metal is bonded to two molecules of monoazo compound or to one molecule of monoazo compound and one molecule of disazo compound. They can be referred to as so-called 1: 2 complexes, in which one molecule of monoazo compound is linked to about 0.3-0.7 metal atoms.
The metal-containing azo dyes dye wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamide fibers from a neutral or weakly acidic dye bath in red, yellow, green, blue, purple, gray, black or brown real shades. If their solubility in organic solvents is sufficiently high, they are also suitable for dyeing masses that are intended for Ver spinning and dissolved in organic solvents and of all kinds of paints and plastics.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 An ice-cold solution of 15.4 parts of 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 25 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid in 80 parts of water is gradually mixed with 6, 9 parts of sodium nitrite were added. The yellow diazo suspension thus obtained is poured into a 0-5 cold soda-alkaline solution of 27 parts of 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxynaphthalene in 100 parts of water.
After the coupling has ended, the monoazo dye deposited by means of sodium chloride is filtered off and dried. 42.2 parts of this dry monoazo dye are dissolved in 400 parts of formamide at 100. 28 parts of crystallized potassium chromium sulfate are then added to this solution in about 30 minutes and kept at 100-120 until the chromium complex formation has ended.
The chromizing mass is then poured into 1600 parts of water, whereupon the chromium-containing azo dye is salted out, filtered off, dried and ground. The black powder now available dyes wool and synthetic or natural polyamide fibers in very real black tones.
If 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxy-naphthalene is replaced by 1-maleylamino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene in the above example and the same procedure is followed, a dye is obtained which has black coloring with a slightly more yellowish tone, but equally good properties supplies.
Dyeing instructions 4 parts of the chromium-containing azo dye obtained in this way are dissolved in 4000 parts of water at 40-50. 100 parts of pre-wetted wool are added to this solution and 2 parts of 100% acetic acid are added dropwise, whereupon the dyebath is heated to boiling within 30 minutes and held at this temperature for a further 45 minutes.
The black-dyed wool is then taken out of the liquor, rinsed with water and dried. A dyeing is obtained which has very good fastness to light, washing and milling.
Example 2 21.1 parts of the monoazo dye prepared according to Example 1 from 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxy-naphthalene are dissolved in 600 parts of water at 80 solved. After acidification with 5 parts of concentrated formic acid, 10 parts of sodium formate, 25 parts of crystallized potassium chromisulfate and 70 parts of polyglycol are added to the solution and the mixture is refluxed for 6 hours. The chromed dye separates out on cooling.
It is filtered off and suspended in 500 parts of water, 21.1 parts of the dye prepared by the method described in Example 1 from 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 1 maleyl-amino-7-hydroxy are added -naphthalene added and the whole boiled after the addition of 50 parts of 10 0 / aiger aqueous sodium carbonate solution for 4 hours on the reflux condenser. The 1: 2 chromium complex compound formed is deposited in a known manner.
The dried and ground dye is a dark powder which dyes wool, silk and synthetic polyamide fibers in black tones with very good light and wet fastness properties.
Example 3 42.2 parts of the monoazo dye prepared according to Example 1 from 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxynaphthalene, 15.5 parts the monoazo dye produced by the same process from 2-amino-1 hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 2-hydroxy-naphthalene, and 15,
5 parts of the monoazo dye obtainable in an analogous manner from 2-amino-1-hydroxy-5-nitro-benzene and 2-hydroxynaphthalene are dissolved in 1400 parts of water. After acidification using 10 parts of concentrated formic acid and the addition of 150 parts of polyglycol and 55 parts of crystallized potassium chromisulfate, the solution is refluxed for 8 hours. The chromating product is then salted out using the customary method, filtered off, dried and ground.
The black powder obtained in this way dyes wool, silk and synthetic polyamide fibers in very good wet and lightfast shades.
In the above example, if the 42.2 parts of the diazotized 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro-benzene and 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxy-naphthalene-made monoazo dye are replaced by 42.2 parts of the corresponding diazotized 2- Amino-1-hydroxy-4-nitro benzene and 2-maleylamino-6-hydroxy-naphthalene produced monoazo dye, one obtains a very similar,
Product which also dyes genuine shades. Example 4 53.2 parts of the known manner from diazotized 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene-4-sulfonic acid phenyl amide and 1-maleylamino-6-hydroxy -Naphthalene produced monoazo dye are dissolved in 2000 Tei len water at 80 with the necessary amount of ammonia as the ammonium salt.
A solution of 15 parts of crystallized cobalt sulfate in 600 parts of water is allowed to flow into this solution over the course of 30 minutes. The metallization mass is kept at 80 for 10 minutes, the cobalt complex compound formed is salted out and filtered off.
The dried and ground cobalt-containing azo dye is a dark powder that dyes wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamide fibers in very real purple tones.
If 53.2 parts of the monoazo dye prepared from diazotized 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene-4-sulfonic acid phenylamide and 1-maleylamino-5-hydroxy-naphthalene are cobalted as in the above example, one obtains a dye in very similar and equally authentic shades coloring cobalt complex compound.
The table below contains further metal-containing azo dyes which can be obtained according to the information in Examples 1 to 4. In the table they are identified by the diazo and azo components [columns (1) and (1I)], by the metal used [column (III)] and by the color of their dyeings on wool [column (IV)].
